Hey! You’re invited to Maggie’s Completely Amazing Costume Party, hosted by, you guessed it, Maggie Parker! Meet in the Ballroom at 8:30, in costume, of course, for a night of fun and friendly competition! Both the best single costume and the best group costume get prizes, so be creative! I can’t wait to see you all there!
Maggie stepped back, looking at the Ballroom in admiration. It was a hassle getting all of the decorations up, but it had been worth it. The room glittered with large bulb-lights suspended in midair, and she’d set up a makeshift stage in the front of the room. On the left side of the room were a row of tables, a white tablecloth covering them and food lined up and down them. A few tables for sitting sat in a corner, and the rest of the floor was, well, empty. It’d be filled up later, with people and games, but the room was basically complete.

She glanced at Carson and Tatiana, who’d helped her, and a grin danced across her face as she said to them,

“Thanks again, guys. This would’ve taken forever without your help.” she glanced at her watch, 8:00. They’d started at 6:00, and although there were three people helping out instead of the usual one, they’d still been slightly panicked that they wouldn’t finish in time. They did, thankfully, and Maggie grinned at Carson, waving at him as her and Tatiana walked over to the nearest girl’s restroom to change into their costumes.

They’d decided to do a group costume with the three of them, and Carson had come up with the idea: tourists. Sylvie would also be joining their group costume, but she wasn’t here at the moment. Maggie wore high-waisted khaki shorts that fell a little higher than her mid-thigh, and they were baggy and loose. She wore a simple white t-shirt, the neckline hitting her collarbone and the bottom of the shirt tucked into her shorts, held there by her dorky fannypack, which was a faded red color. She also wore a bright red, oversized Hawaiian shirt, patterned with large, off-white, lily flowers. It was unbuttoned and just as long as her shorts were, which meant it fell to her mid-thigh. She had sunglasses hanging from her shirt, and a large straw hat on her head, the strings tied and making a loop around her neck so it wouldn’t fall off. She wore her old, tan, Birkenstocks, and high white socks. She kept her hair down, though she did have a red scrunchie around her wrist, just in case.  The costume was dorky and goofy, and Maggie grinned at herself as she looked in the mirror. Spinning around, she held her arms out as Tatiana came out of her stall, doing a little ta-da gesture that made her giggle.

“I think people are gonna start arriving soon... we should go.” Maggie announced, chatting aimlessly with Tatiana as they strolled towards the Ballroom, receiving strange, albeit amused looks from the students they passed on their way.

Carson stood in the center of the ballroom, waiting, as the girls entered. He wore the same thing Maggie and Tatiana did, although none of their costumes were the exact same. For example, since they were all in different houses, their Hawaiian shirts corresponded with that, Maggie’s was red, Tatiana’s was blue, Carson’s was yellow, and Sylvie’s was green, though they hadn’t seen hers yet. Maggie ran over to the table where her phone was, pressing play, a steady stream of sound echoing slightly throughout the ballroom. She’d set up speakers, and the room was now filled with music.

“Ready guys?” she asked, as he first person stepped into the room, right on time and in costume, thankfully.

The ballroom looked amazing. It really was beautiful, and he wasn’t just saying that because he helped decorate it. Lights were strung across the room, hanging low enough to where they’d actually serve their purpose, but high enough to where nobody would hit their head on them. A makeshift stage-looking thing stood in the front of the room, and tables with food on them had been laid out. Somehow, they’d made the room seem smaller than it actually was, so it wasn’t as daunting for the kids walking through the door. Again, it was amazing.

Carson, Maggie, Tatiana, and Sylvie had decided to do a group costume with eachother, and Carson had introduced the idea of them being tourists. He wore an oversized Hawaiian button-up, and it was a golden-yellow color with large green leaves and dark yellow flowers. He wore baggy khaki shorts that hit his knees, and a large straw hat similar to Maggie’s. He also had a fannypack, only it was black, since it was the only one he had in his closet. He wore a white shirt underneath his Hawaiian one, and since the Hawaiian one was unbuttoned, his shirt showed. He didn’t wear sunglasses, since he already wore glasses, but his costume was almost identical to Tatiana and Maggie’s.

“Sure am,” Carson replied, grinning at the student who walked through the door.

Parties weren't usually something Sylvie was thrilled about, or even happy to attend if she was honest. Yet, here she was, walking down the hallway towards a huge party in her costume. Maggie had actually gone through with the plan to host a big costume party, but not on Halloween or anything, in the middle of spring. It was 8:30 and she was almost at the ballroom. She was doing a group costume with Maggie, Carson, and Tatiana. They were tourists, each with different shirt matching their houses colors.

Sylvie was a Slytherin, so she wore a green shirt. The shirt had a beach scene with palm trees, water, the sand, and people. Underneath it was a plain white shirt. The girl also had light gray shorts, Birkenstocks with lime green straps to match the color scheme, light grey socks that went a little lower then her knee, a lime green fanny pack that matched the shoes and shirt, light grey glasses, and a sun hat with a green bow. Her sister had sent her the outfit after she had sent an owl to her saying what she was planning to wear. Sylvie thought it made her stand out too much, but hey, at least it matched the house colors. She blushed a bit as students passing by gave her weird looks.

When she walked in it was empty for the most part, but standing in the center of the ballroom was Maggie, Carson, and Tatiana, all in their costumes. She walked over to them, smiling. "Hey guys! It looks great in here! Sorry I couldn't help..." She said. She'd been working on an assignment for History of Magic that she'd unfortunately procrastinated on.

Margo stepped into the ballroom, looking around with well disguised wonder. She wasn’t in awe of the ballroom itself, though the room was beautiful, but of the company she had. She had been secretly thrilled to receive Maggie’s invitation to her costume party- only the second party she had ever attended upon invitation.

Though her parents were both part of the wizarding world, Margo had attended a muggle school until she had received he Hogwarts letter. The children there had always sensed that there was something slightly off about her, and therefore she’d never had anybody whom she’d call a friend. She’d been to some birthday parties, of course, but that was mostly as a favour to her parents who were active members of the school community, meaning Margo was not actually there on her own merits.

Margo’s streak of independence could find no excuse for Maggie’s invitation, however, forcing her to assume that it was delivered upon her own merits... and Maggie was just a really nice person. The thing that put the Gryffindor even higher in Margo’s esteem was the fact that she was hosting a costume party. Margo had had had sufficient warning for the event, so had spent the past few days preparing her costume, and she wholeheartedly adored it.

Margo had always had a fascination with 80’s fashion, so in order to perfect her costume for today’s event she’d just had to search through some of her old projects. Her colour theme was slightly chaotic, but she had made sure that green was one of the main ones. Who knew how many people would be there, and whilst it would be fun to see so many new faces, she’d need a little bit of house pride as comfort. She’d also assured that her clothes were comfortable, because, even though she adored her fashion, comfort was more important.

She’d pinned back half of her hair with a spare piece of neon green fabric to match her vest and the hem of her skirt. Her favourite part of her outfit were the boots. What could she say, she loved boots. These particular boots were chunky black ones with laces up the front- very solid and very Margo. Peeking over the top of them were her green ankle warmers (they had once been large socks but nobody needed to know that). Her tiger print skirt almost reached to her knees, and was by far the hardest thing to make. Admittedly, she hadn’t made her vest or crop top, but all the rest was her own, and she couldn’t be prouder.

There were four people already present when Margo walked in, her head held high. She walked over to them, smiling at Maggie and another girl she recognised from her own house, Sylvie Maple. They seemed to have a group costume going on, and Margo deduced that they were tourists, each with a different, brightly coloured shirt.

“Here.” She said to Maggie and handed her the tin of cookies she held under one arm. She was glad that she had at least remembered to bring a gift to this party, if not Maggie’s last.

Why, oh why, had she ever wanted to do this?

Most parties were terrible, Koko knew that, but she also knew that most did not nearly mean all. For instance, the Blossom Ball hadn't been too scary, save for the fire and kidnappings, but this one was bound to be scarier. Koko just knew it.

She didn't even know why she had been invited. She was... not necessarily popular. To be honest, she thought that no one would like her and that they had no reason to - well, sometimes. Other times, she just didn't care about the people. Of course, the blonde was quite the charmer, but she didn't yet know that.

Koko had heard that this party was a costume party, so she had to rack her brain for costume ideas. She couldn't come up with just a generic costume - everyone would be wearing that. She had to stand out; she had to prove her worth. So she would come up with a masterful combination of cat ears and an umbrella. She was becoming a full-out Neko.

It accented her golden eyes well; the only thing that didn't go with it was her human features. Nevertheless, the (almost?) twelve-year-old was sure to make it work. She had thought about bringing a gift - was it a birthday party? - so she bought a fancy quill for Maggie, the hostess of the party. Koko would give it to her if she could find a way to say hello without talking to any people who were too terrifying... Seriously, what was up with the world these days? Couldn't people be less scary? No. They couldn't. And that made Koko mad.

Anyway, she was on her way through the corridors, all decked out in a wonderful outfit, when the worries hit her. What would these people do? What would they say? She didn't know all of them, so that also terrified her. However, when Koko entered the ballroom, she found that this wasn't going to be as terrible as she thought - or so she hoped.

Dennis was nervous for one reason and one reason only- the competition. He wanted to win and he wanted it bad. He had been the first to offer the costume idea, but there was no reasoning needed to convince Mac Murphy, his one and only partner in crime, to do it with him.

So there they stood, entrance of the ballroom, dressed as Batman and Robin. Of course, Dennis was Batman. He had won the three round rock-paper-scissors competition just outside of the Ravenclaw commons and quickly raced back to his dorm to adorn the Batman onesie, cape and all. He wore it with pride, chest puffed out as he struck a pose just inside the ballroom, hands on his hips and head tipped down. As if he was Batman, Dennis held himself as if about to save all of Gotham from a fiend as bad as The Joker or Jason Todd. He walked as if about to take down his own Two-Face or Poison Ivy; his chest out and chin tucked down so that he looked at everyone from under his brow. He made sure to lower his voice, making it as raspy and deep as possible which did not in fact result in the iconic Batman voice, but a very poor and very obvious child's impersonation of it.

"I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman. And Batman- is very thirsty." He spoke in the same poor, raspy impersonation he had since putting on the poorly made Batman costume, chin tucked into his chest and eyes squinted dramatically as he turned to look at his buddy next to him, dressed in a much brighter getup as his sidekick Robin.

Well well well, what do we have here? An innocent girl, wandering through the halls, all dressed up. What was this occasion, you ask? Well, Maggie had announced a costume party. people looked at the girl who looked like she was trapped in a different timeline. She didn't know what she was herself, to be honest, and she was quite nervous. She was in a navy blue dress with gears all over it. Her hair was curled into large ringlets, and was held back by a navy bow. She wore white tights and black mary jane high heels to make herself look a bit taller, which didn't help at all for they were small heels. She looked like a porcelain doll, her pale skin lightly dusted with makeup. She looked slightly evil, but you couldn't help but love her. She held in her hand a white parasol and a silver wrapped gift for the party. Inside was a beautiful silver necklace, one that had a little blue bird charm. She bought it, thinking of Maggie. Hopefully she would like it.

Min's heels clicked on the floor, and she was really nervous. She thought that people probably didn't dress up as much as she did, but whatever. It didn't matter. She was happy with her outfit. It was okay.

She opened the doors to the ballroom and heard the music playing. She entered with a small gulp, worried.

Maggie clapped her hands together excitedly as Sylvie walked in, and she beamed at the Slytherin girl as she stood before them. She definitely embodied Slytherin pride, with a neon green Hawaiian shirt and berks that made Maggie glad she was a part of their group.

”Hey guys! It looks great in here! Sorry I couldn’t help...” she trailed off, looking genuinely sorry. Maggie grinned widely at the girl, hugging her quickly and beaming at her.

“No worries! You look amazing, Syl, I love the berks.” Maggie complimented, giving Sylvie an impressed look. “We’re totally gonna win, guys, we’ve got this in the bag.” she giggled, giving her teammates high fives.

“Oh! Hey Margo!” Maggie grinned, waving the girl over. Margo wore an 80’s costume, neon and all. “Your costume is amazing! Did you make it yourself?” she gushed, admiring the girl’s costume, which looked truly authentic. “I mean, I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t know you were so crafty— it looks like the real thing!” she beamed at the Slytherin girl, admiring her pinned-back hair.

“Here.” Margo offered Maggie a tin of cookies, and Maggie took them eagerly. “Thanks! I’ll put them over here, but you didn’t have to, really.” she took the cookies under her arm, walking over a few feet to the tables, where food was already laid out.

“Hey Koko! Glad you could make it!” Maggie called, looking over her shoulder towards Koko Riddle, who had just entered the room. She was dressed as a... cat? With an umbrella? Though Maggie had no clue what Koko had come as, she looked pretty, and the quality of the costume was amazing.

Maggie walked over to the girl, Margo’s cookies laid out on the table. “I love your costume, really! You look so pretty!” she beamed at the girl, her words entirely truthful. “However,” she added, “I have to ask... what are you?” she hastily added, after she’d asked the question, “Don’t take offense to that though, me not knowing something isn’t really uncommon.” she laughed, glancing back to where Carson, Tatiana, Sylvie, and Margo stood. “The guy is Carson, the blue tourist is Tatiana, the green tourist is Sylvie, and the 80’s girl is Margo, by the way.” she explained, quickly taking Koko’s hand and leading her over towards the group.

“This is Koko, guys. She’s a Slytherin too, do you guys know her?” she asked, directing her gaze towards Sylvie and Margo. Behind Koko’s shoulder, Maggie spotted another party guest, Dennis Harris!

“Dennis!” she called, admiring Dennis’s somewhat goofy, yet still awesome, costume. He was clad in a Batman onesie, and Maggie was sure that Mac would show up in a Robin onesie, as the two were like, best friends. Dennis did a frankly amazing Batman impression, making Maggie giggle slightly. “That’s— iconic!” she sputtered, breaking out into loud laughter as she did so. “You know Carson, right? He was at the Lake Party, and he’s in your house. Tatiana and Margo were there too, Margo was the one who dared me to catch a fish with my bare hands.” Maggie punctuated her sentence by making her hands into funny claws, laughing as she did so. She guided Dennis over towards the group, quickly abandoning them to tackle Min-seo, who’d just walked through the door, in a hug. She pulled back quickly, realizing that she might’ve messed with Min’s costume, which was extremely complex and amazing.

“Holy shit, Min! Your costume is— wow!” It was true— Min’s costume truly was “wow”. She looked like a steampunk goddess! She’d put on makeup to make herself look paler than she already was, and she frankly looked a bit scary, in Maggie’s opinion. She guided her over to the center of the room, where everyone else stood, chatting happily.

“Alright guys, does anyone have any song suggestions?” she asked, pulling her phone out of her fannypack. “Mamma Mia” played in the background, but Maggie was interested to see what kind of music everyone else liked, so she wasn’t just playing her stuff.

A costume party...

Charlotte had never been to a costume party, and to say the least, she was quite nervous. Would she be the only one to wear a costume? Did the others plan earlier than her? All those questions raced through her mind as she put her black shoes,
still unsure if she still wanted to go. She had no idea if the ballroom was going to be crowded, or if only a few familiar faces would be standing there. Should she wear a costume?

Standing up, she shifted slightly in her shoes and looked at herself in the mirror that stood between the door and her bed. Sure, she had bought everything very last minute, but it still looked alright. Happy to not be dissatisfied, she held her pale blue skirt and twirled around, a smile on her face. The final touches were the only thing left to perfect this whole outfit. She attached her hair in a low ponytail before adding a blue ribbon around it, matching the arctic blue colour of her dress. Now, her Belle costume was complete. She grabbed a few thick leather-bounded books she had borrowed in the library just for the occasion, who's titles were indecipherable. Right before she headed out, she took her wicker basket that she had filled with some fresh shortbreads, sprinkled with just a pinch of sugar.

Taking several deep breathes and playing around with the books to calm down, she walked down the empty corridor, her every step resonating in this endless looking path. Her golden bracelet and necklace glimmered in the candle-light, and she couldn't help but notice how pretty it looked. In just a few moments, she found herself standing in front of the wide-open doors, looking around thinking nobody had seen her yet. One last deep breath... Breath in, breath out, alright. She stepped into the room and smiled as she saw that she wasn't the last person to arrive.

The first person she saw was Margo, a Slytherin girl she had met earlier in the year, wearing the brightest costume in the room. Quite surprise the girl would wear such an outfit, she blinked, making sure she hadn't mistaken her for someone else, but smiled playfully when she was sure it was her. She walked towards the girl, a warm smile on her face.

'Wow, Margo... I-I love the outfit!'
she said as she observed from head to toe.
'It's awesome, really!'

Glancing around the room, she spotted her cousin, Maggie wearing quite a peculiar outfit too. Her Hawaiian shirt matched Tatiana's, Sylvie's and Carson's and together, they looked great. She walked towards her, handing out the basket as she shot her cousin a smile.

'Hi Maggie, I just made a few shortbreads, don't know if we had to bring our own, but... Anyway, the party looks amazing, really!'

There were a few other people in the room, and Charlotte didn't recognise all of them. Perhaps she'd get to know them a little better when the party would start, although she thought that she had maybe seen some familiar faces.

Phoenix adjusted the red and yellow feathery head piece on her head as she stood outside of the door to the ballroom. She also had a red and yellow mesh pair of wings attached to a tail on her back with a tight red t shirt and red tracksuit bottoms with yellow stripes down the side. In her opinion she looked amazing and the irony of the costume was sure to win her some browny points. She couldn’t take all the credit for the idea of coming as a Phoenix but once her brother had made the suggestion as a joke she fell in love with the idea.

She took a deep breath and pushed open the door to the immaculately decorated ballroom. She had been ecstatic, though a little surprised, to receive the invitation from Maggie and had skipped her last two periods today just to finish up the final touches of her costume. She had even gone as far as to do make up, a rare occasion for Phoenix, and the red and yellow around her eyes really finished the costume.

Phoenix looked around the room in awe. The decorations were incredible and the people already here were even more so. She immediately spotted Maggie with some people that she didn’t recognise and gave a small wave before turning her attention back to the rest of the room. She spotted someone dressed in a batman costume, one of the few muggle movies Phoenix had watched, and what appeared to be a cat wielding an umbrella. All of the costumes were amazing and she realised, perhaps a little too late, that she had been stood gawking at everyone for almost a full minute by this point.

Unsure of where to go as she didn’t really know anyone here, Phoenix slowly made her way over to Maggie.
“Hey Maggie. I love your costume,” She said with a small smile. “Thank you so much for inviting me!”
