Here's some music to accompany the thread... because do you really need an actual reason to listen to Queen? No. No, you don't.

Ami was a pretty decent party planner, if she dared say so. She had managed to pull off a surprise party in the middle of the night for Mia Alexander, her ex-best friend during her first year at Hogwarts, which had gone rather swimmingly until Serena came along and broke it all up. But up until that point, it had been quite the little party, and most importantly, it had made Mia happy, and Ami was happiest when those closest to her were happy. Somehow, she had to recreate that feeling, but with a more professional tone to it.

It was with a satisfied smile that the Hufflepuff surveyed the scene set out in front of her, pleased with how the majestic Ballroom looked under her amateur decorating job. To be honest, it didn't look that bad- not that it needed much decorating to begin with. The Ballroom was already beautiful without her meddling, but she figured that the addition of food and a record player really helped. Of course, her gaze flitted over to her ominous looking school bag slung over the back of a chair, hidden by one of the two large tables set up in the room. Finally, although it was currently empty, the dancefloor would be inevitably be Ami's favorite part of the part.

The food: Who didn't like a good, unhealthy snack every once in a while? Ami seemed to have raided the kitchens and every neighboring Hy-Vee to find pretty much every snack food known to man, plus your grandma's favorite recipe thrown in. Drinks were present as well, of course. Everything from punch, to soda, to even a questionable-looking brown liquid in a pitcher was present. Stacks of plates and cups were on either side of the table, ready to be loaded with food for the partygoers. Of course, there was a good amount of vegan food present, because she, herself, was one... but it was a minor detail that only someone like herself would notice.

The music: Ami had inherited her dad's taste in music, which was to say, she really really like Queen. Her mother had given her a vinyl record of Queen's greatest hits, because she was a good mom like that, and the 80's rock music was filling the rather heavy silence that had hung over the room earlier. It was, in Ami's not-so humble opinion, the best type of party music- there was usually a fun and quirky beat that people could dance to, but it wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear yourself over the music, although it certainly wasn't that lame elevator music. It was, without a doubt, the best type of party music, and Ami was quite pleased with the songs on the record.

The ominous looking bag: Ami had brought her school bag along with her to the party, although it was definitely not being used for anything school-related today. In it were the fourteen presents for the fourteen people on the Headliner team, and Ami had part of her attention focused on the door, eagerly awaiting any incoming students. The second they stepped into the room, Ami would reach for her bag while waving wildly to them, beckoning to them with her exuberant hand gestures to come on over, even if she had never met them before and didn't know their name.

The tables: Two circular tables, each with seven chairs seated evenly around them, bookended the food table, and the whole table affair was pushed towards one wall of the ballroom. This would be where people who didn't really want to mingle on the dancefloor would sit and eat their food, or whatever. Honestly, considering how many parties she had thrown thus far, Ami didn't really have much experience in actually attending and experiencing parties. But that was fine- did it matter? No, it did not.

The dancefloor: The dancefloor was the huge, empty section in the middle- maybe some dancing would happen, but Ami knew that it was more probable that people would simply mingle around in the middle rather than get much dancing and grooving on. Maybe it would be more suitable to call it the mingle-floor...? No, that sounded stupid.
All thread rules still apply (specifically, 200 words minimum) to this thread. Please note, you should have your character make your way over to Ami at some point during this thread to receive your welcoming gift (if you are a new member) or your congratulations gift (if you wrote something for/worked on our first issue).  Also, the 'mysterious brown liquid' is hot chocolate.

It felt... Weird that Alexx wasn't the one hosting. As if she wasn't insecure enough about whether she was really meant for the job, here she was letting someone else do the work for her. A big part of her wished that Ami had just said something. Just... Asked first. Made her a bigger part of this. But here she was as a guest to a party for her team. It felt rude. She looked inconsiderate and lame. This was not a good first impression to the newcomers at all.

Alexx wasn't even sure who all would show up. She couldn't tell if anyone was actually going to be interested in this. Who was joining the paper because they liked journalism and who was joining it for the title? What if it were just her and Ami? Ami wasn't really the person she wanted to be stuck in a room with right now. She loved her, but this was definitely making her look bad, which made Alexx grumpy. And it wasn't the Hufflepuff's fault at all! She had the best intentions in mind, which Alexx understood. It was just annoying.

Really, she was worried that no one would take her seriously. People didn't seem to take her seriously as a Prefect, so why would that change for Editor-in-Chief? She felt like she was playing the background character in all of her friend's lives. It was disheartening and annoying. They all meant well, but she just couldn't deal with this.

Aside from her moody attitude, Alexx wasn't exactly a party-goer. She went to some extent. Mostly, in these past few months, as a cautious Prefect, keeping her eye out on things. Now, however, as the Editor-in-Chief (who still wasn't the one hosting this). She didn't like parties because she didn't like people. That was plain and simple. She liked some people, don't get her wrong. She had her fair share of friends, Ami included, but she wasn't a little social butterfly. Not a kiss-up like some Prefects. Alexx didn't bend over for anyone, that was for sure.

That was also her biggest problem. She didn't want to mold to fit an idea of who she should be or how she should act. She set her own expectations. In reality, it was likely that no one thought less of her for not hosting this. But to her, this was a total embarrassment. If Delilah were still in her shoes, she'd probably host this. Or maybe even not hold a party at all. And if she didn't hold a party, Alexx could be praised for being the one with the grand idea. She liked praise. She liked being better than people.

Out of everyone who made the team, she just hoped that she would find Reid in the crowd. He was the only person in the world that would not annoy the shit out of her at this very instant. Well- he would annoy her. He was annoying. But she'd allow it. Of course, that wouldn't stop her from interacting with her other friends. Ami, as annoyed as she was with her, was here. Scott would be here too (though they were more like acquaintances). Frost had also made the team. There were a good bit of people that she knew.

Approaching Ami, she decided to at least keep this civil. "Hey," She said, no sign of emotion on her face. Rosalie was on her head, holding on for dear life. Aside from that, Alexx showed up in jeans and a hoodie. It was the same cropped U.S. Air Force hoodie that she had worn before while she was out doing shenanigans with Reid. Her hair was worn down, almost concealing her round, golden hooped earrings. Over the last year, she had begun to dress differently. Alexx was approaching her teenage years, and change was due.

She couldn't bring herself to say much more than that, lest she ask Ami why she should be the one hosting this and not Alexx. She didn't want to burn any bridges down today.

Caviar and cigarettes, well versed in etiquette, extraordinarily nice...

Elena would've liked her entrance to be to Killer Queen instead of Another One Bites The Dust, but what can you do.

Lessons had been learned from the Blossomfest, so even the suit had been abandoned in favour of jeans and a blazer, this was going very well. She'd gone from warrior princess outfits to suave super spy and was now at the level of the most successful person at a family reunion. The only thing lacking was the shoes, which were conspiciously absent in favour of socks, you could slide around on socks. Elena'd hurt her knee trying to show off so it was sliding around for her.

Elena wasn't a party-goer at heart, she showed up because it was the right thing to do, hell she'd backed out of the normal graduation party for exactly that reason. Elena went and found something reasonable to drink at the food section, hot chocolate or something along those lines, it tasted good, was what mattered.

Got a bit of speed up and slid all the way over to Ami and Alexx, "Ami my darling, lovely party! I would make a french pun but that may be in poor taste, after all, they're the sworn enemies of the English."

She gave them both a lopsided grin, "Forgot my shoes today, makes it easier to slide about when my leg doesn't quite feel like doing things. Sorry if I look too informal, I managed to find my suit jacket though."

To avoid complications, she never kept the same address, in conversation, she spoke just like a baroness!

Ami's face lit up as she saw Alexx enter the Ballroom, pleased beyond belief that their new Editor-in-Chief was the first one to show up. "Alexx, over here!" she called over to her, waving wildly to the blonde Slytherin. "Oh, hey Rosalie! Alexx, what do you think?" she asked, gesturing around to the tables and the record player. "And I know it's a lot to ask, but..."

Her voice trailing off, she glanced worriedly at her friend, offering her a sheepish smile. "I don't actually know most of the new team members, and besides, it's really more your place to welcome them to the team... could you- would you want to help me with that? I totally understand if you don't," she added hurriedly, "But I really don't know their names." Her loud actions became subdued, however, as she noticed Alexx's somber expression, and her eyebrows met as she frowned slightly. "Are you okay?"

The two didn't get much of a chance to continue their conversation before Elena slid on over to the pair, and Ami grinned wolfishly at the blue-haired pixie-looking girl. "Hey Elena! Great work on that Blossom Ball article, really summed it all nicely." Reaching for her bag, she opened it up and reached in, grabbing two quills from inside. "Here are your congratulation-gifts! It's- well, they're quills, cos we're... y'know, we're writers. We write? I dunno, I thought it was witty." She handed one to Alexx, and one to Elena, grinning at the two of them.

He'd been filled with the most wonderful nostalgia upon hearing about the invites. Ami the party-planner... must be something about it. He himself could never manage the job, not at all... Far too much work he'd have no idea how to go about! Besides, Scott liked attending parties. That's much easier to do and enjoy when you're not also organising them, his mother had said so herself- and she used to be addicted to hosting.

Scott had learnt his lesson from the Blossom Ball, and so his paisley grey ascot tie was this time left behind at the bottom of his drawer. That's probably right where it belonged, according to some more brutally honest people... But he was still wearing his suit trousers. And his grey vest. Of course.

But his shoes weren't polished! Rock n' roll...

So that's in what fashion he made his way across the ballroom, passing the tables of food he was sure to soon get to (grabbing a paper plate with some sort of bundles to get himself started), in order to speak with the only other three people already present at the party.

"Ami!" He called greetingly, "Pygmypyff-Prefect! And..." Scott stopped with a laugh next to the girls, shining towards all of them. He didn't know wether they'd been in the middle of something... looked like they had been, but currently there was nobody else around. Plus, he had to offer the hostess his compliments. "-and the madwoman. Things are looking brilliant Ami, they really are. You've got the proper knack of this, I'm telling you... Maybe you should help Lear out next ball, things tend to... spiral... a bit with him. All the love, though."

Scott smiled assuringly, offering a sweet from his plate first to Elena and then to Alexx.

"She's insane, by the way." He said, referencing the former with a nod and a bat of his eye. "Need to stay on her good side, hence the sweets... As do I you, Alexx, since you're now my boss! Though I should hope I'm more usful than this with the paper."

Parties were terrifying.

There was no getting around this fact. Parties usually required talking, dancing, and lots of food, none of which usually included brownies. However, Koko knew that she needed to attend this specific party, no matter the terror it might give her. And to attend this party, she would have to dress her best.

She wore a simple lavender coloured dress to remind her of all that she had gone through during the past year, and how it had affected her. She had gotten through lavender shades of fear. The dress was really pretty, though, so Koko wasn't ashamed to be wearing a dress knit of the colour of fear.

Her shoes were white heeled sandals, and part of her blonde locks were tied back into a set of braids; the rest were free-flowing. Her shoulders and back were erect, and the girl was standing with an air of confidence that she hadn't had in a while due to one thing: she could be useful now. She could actually help the school, and that gave her a sense of self-confidence that was totally amazing.

It was amazing to be able to help. Amazing to be able to do something other than just sit there and take useless classes. Koko wouldn't use them unless she was going to have a career that wasn't Quidditch - and she really wanted to be a Quidditch player for a professional team.

Koko shook her head, putting one shoe-clad foot in front of the other, listening to the clicks of her heels against the floor. She counted each step that she took; it was a wonderful calming measure. She took deep breaths in, and less deep breaths out until she finally made her way to the doors of the ballroom. Koko lost a little bit of her composure; her golden eyes shone with the slightest bit of fear, and she stepped into the room.

It was extravagant. Absolutely extravagant. Whoever had planned this party had quite certainly done a wonderful job. Koko smiled as she treaded into the room, but as soon as she entered, a chill ran down her spine. She wasn't safe here. Even if these people were her colleagues, they still had to prove their worth to her - and they hadn't.

*also note that because this thread is backdated, Alexx still refers to herself as a Prefect ^^
It was as if Ami read her mind. Well, it didn't make her feel any better, but she wouldn't deny her. At least for a little while. Until Reid showed up. Which, by the way, he hadn't yet, and that was beginning to annoy her. Where was he? She had specifically invited him. Well, everyone was invited, as long as they were a Headliner team member. Which he was! How was he going to not attend?

But she wasn't going to not accept Ami's offer. "Alright," She agreed, nodding. She wouldn't answer her other question, but she was at least going to polite enough to respond to her. Alexx wasn't going to go out of her way to hunt everyone down as they came in, but she would at least great them as they came to her.

How many people knew that she was their Editor-in-Chief, anyway? Well, most of them should, but what if they didn't? Now was a good time to promote herself. As good of a time as any. And Ami guessed correctly; she would know everyone that applied and made it in. She knew that because she was the Editor-in-Chief. She had a God-like knowledge.

Alexx looked at the quill, smiling. She liked it. It was nice enough. Honestly, she couldn't believe that Ami was willing to spend money on this stuff. She was thankful, at least. Alexx always broke her quills or at least lost them. Plus a gift never hurt anyone.

Pygmy Puff Prefect was another title that was bestowed upon Alexx. There were a lot of ways to identify her; she had long, luscious blonde hair, a Prefect badge that she took the liberty of wearing at all times, blue-green eyes that sparkled in the sun, porcelain pale skin, and Rosalie. Scott had not decided to identify her as the only second-year Slytherin to be a Prefect, or the Prefect with the best hair, or even the French Prefect. He had decided to recognize her by her beloved Pygmy Puff, Rosalie.

"Bonjour, Scott," She said politely, offering him a smile. "I am sad to say that I am everyone's boss; I am a Prefect." She giggled slightly, covering her mouth as she did. Rosalie was quick to fling herself at the blond boy, smacking down against his chest. Alexx's eyes got wide. "Sorry about her. She's... Excited?"

Honestly, she had no idea why Rosalie was the way that she was. She liked everyone but Alexx. Scott. Reid. Ami. Everyone.Or maybe the pet was just stupid. She really couldn't tell what the case was. Either way, it was cute to watch her gradually float down, squeaking.

There goes my baby, she knows how to rock 'n' roll.

“Thank you Ami it’s beautiful! Don't worry about names, I stole all their applications on the way in and read them.” Elena cherished any and all gifts no matter the source or the cause. Her eyes sparkled as she hid the present in her satchel bag, "Thank you, it was well worth the thirty something interviews I had to send out."

"Scotty! It's great to see you again. Hold on... madwoman? Well at least that gets me sugar." Elena gave a lopsided grin and picked up a sweet, "And he's right Ami, I think even Lear could learn a thing or two off of you."

Elena noticed Koko entering but didn't go and talk as she soon heard something that if anyone knew Elena with any certainty would cause instant fear for the speaker.

She drives me crazy... She gives me hot and cold fever!

Elena pasted on a big smile and took a sip of her hot chocolate, "Freedom, my dear prefect, is the state where you have no master and no boss, anyone who knows me will tell you I exist in this state. Long story short if anyone tries to make me do something that I don't want to do they'll find spiders in their bed faster than you can say Sun Wukong. Oh, and congratulations on the editor in chief position darling. Del will be missed but I'm sure you're just as good."

Elena popped the sweet into her mouth and nodded, "Really is excellent catering Ami, the fountain is a stroke of genius. I don't know how anyone could plan this better."

Then she leaves me in a cool cool sweat...

Alexx's nose crinkled. Where the fuck was Kovacs and who in the sweet name of Jesus H. Christ was this firstie that could not shut her trap? This anti-authoritarian bullshit was killing her vibe. Not that she had one to begin with, but her mood was worsening by the second. Her voice became a deadweight to Alexx, and she wanted to leave instantly. So much for a party. What a God damn buzzkill.

Turning to the blue-haired girl, she narrowed her eyes. "You won't bode well on my team, then. Or in life at all." It was all that she had to say before leaving. She'd absolutely drop out if this chick ever got any position of authority, as well as beg for Merlin to save the school. What was this propaganda, anyway? Alexx was fairly neutral in terms of measures of authority, she wasn't here to boss people around or run the show. She could care less about what happened to the poor kids who got on her bad side. She just couldn't stand for someone who was as immature and blinde as to think that they could breeze through life without listening to a damn soul.

She was fucking annoyed. Her French accent had peaked with every word that dripped from her lips. Her eyes remained narrowed, eyebrows in a chinch. Looks like she wasn't hosting this damn party after all.

Scott could return Rosalie to her later. Right now, she was going to wait by the door for her friend. That was all that she wanted, anyway. And if he didn't show up, then she would leave. If he did show up, she would direct him towards his welcoming gift and then ask him to leave with her. They could find a home in the abandoned toilets. Maybe a naughty seventh year had abandoned some fire whiskey in there and they could allow themselves a few swigs before absolutely spitting it out. Lord knows Alexx needed something to calm her nerves.

Today had been a bad day. This week had been a pretty equally shitty one altogether. And to think that she was going to have to deal with this kid on her team. She didn't know how long she'd hold up until the stress got to her. At this rate, she'd probably have a voice so hoarse from shouting every single day of her third year.

Alexx's life revolved around the badge on her robes. It revolved around her duties as a prefect as well as her job as something close to an authority figure. The fact that her title was basically being shit on by some rebel was enough to enrage her. It wasn't that big of a deal, people could have opinions, she just happened to not like hers. In fact, she happened to think that she was quite naive and immature. Probably a little know-it-all under all of that too, but that much was just speculation.

All her life, Alexx was trained to be proper, well mannered, well educated. However, she was also filled with spunk and sass. Chin high, sly and cunning, practically arrogant. Pompous. Alexx was pompous. But there was nothing wrong with that, because she was also a realist. Someone intelligent enough to know how the world worked. The world was run by powerful people, and someone had to answer to them. You always will have someone to answer to. Even Alexx.

There she was, obsessing over it. She had wished that she said more, but she wasn't going to do that to Ami. Ami was trying to do something nice for the team. Even if that annoyed Alexx as well, at least Ami wasn't doing anything "wrong".

God, all she wanted was for Kovacs to get here. She'd pay good money to see a friendly face right now. Someone who could at the very least calm her down, or get her out of this mess. It would be rude to not even greet her new team members, but it would be even worse if she were to greet them in an ill mood. She didn't want to make a bad impression.

@Ami Procoppio
River walked hastily down the long, stretching corridors of the Castle. Her red curls bouncing about her shoulders as she hurried on her way to a place she’d most likely feel uncomfortable. A party.
Parties was something River could not stand, social situations like those were something she usually avoided. The only reason she even decided to show up to this one, was because it would show her best interest of being a new member of the newspaper team. Making good first impressions was very important, and so far, River wasn’t doing a good job. She had been able to lose all track of time while deeply lost in one of her most facinating books, and was now running late. This was very unlike River, as she would usually be early or right on time, but today, she simply lost sight of her own mind traveling through the Myths of the Norse Gods.

When realizing she was running late, the red-head had put together a semi-formal outfit as quickly as she could, and headed on her way to the ballroom. The outfit she had thrown together was a black and white, striped long-sleeve and a simple brown skirt. An outfit very unusal for River, as she was not known to wear skrits and dresses, it wasn’t really something she enjoyed very much. Still, for the occasion, she figured she’d survive.

As she entered the ballroom, she was met by the smell of hot-chocolate and the sound of chatter between people. A few had already arrived, which was easy to understand, as River had been a little late. Looking around though, she believed there were still a few students not present.

A nervous feeling crept up into her throat, as she remembered that most of the people here would be complete strangers to her. Sure, she had seen most of them around, but was not introduced. What would they think of her?
Walking in, feeling quite self-concious of her every move, River carefully made her way to the one she knew to be Ami. She nodded politely to the people she passed on the way, though decided to greet the one hosting before getting introduced to he rest of the team.
«Hello», River said as she approached, «I’m River», she added with a small smile, and hesitantly stretched her hand out for a hand shake.
