She was slightly late, she knew she was, but she had just wanted to make sure that everything was ready. She was not typically late. In fact, she had a habit of being punctual or even early. Perhaps she had lost track of time, or perhaps it was because there was something that set this ball apart from the others that she had been to. She had a date. Ruby—an intimidating prefect, a girl who was trying to push people away to ensure that they didn't end up liking her or wanting to be her friend—had ended up with a date. And yet she didn't hate it. She actually… loved having a date. It made her anxious because she knew it would hurt so, so much more than she could handle if she messed up and Illowy no longer wanted to even be friends with her, but she found that she was willing to accept the risk. When she was with the other Slytherin, all her worries seemed to melt away.

Illowy captured her attention in a way unlike anyone had before. It was dangerous because she knew that a relationship of this sort could cause pain, could easily go wrong, but for once she didn't mind the vulnerability. It made her feel warm inside and excited, and she found it hard not to think about the girl and whatever this relationship was. As she got ready for the dance, she was nervous about how Illowy would receive her and wanted to look her best, but she reminded herself that it was unlikely Illowy would care too much about how Ruby looked, as long as she was happy. She made her way to the ballroom with a bounce in her step, barely able to keep from sprinting down the corridors because of the excited energy that was building up. Dances at Hogwarts seemed to always go wrong, but maybe this one would be different. She was older now and felt more able to protect people if something went wrong—she had a responsibility to as a duellist and a prefect.

At the last dance, she had finally spent time with a group of friends, people she knew she could trust, people she cared about. It had made the experience not quite as bad. This time, she had a date, which just made the stakes higher. She hoped to enjoy the time before the dance degenerated into chaos, but if it did turn out badly, she knew the first person she would be looking to protect would be Illowy, although she knew the girl could easily take care of herself. She was strong and intelligent, and Ruby couldn't think of anyone she would rather have beside her as her date. Before long, she reached the ballroom—luckily, students were still trickling in—and her gaze landed on the elegant blue dress that Illowy was wearing. Her eyes widened in awe as she approached her. “You look absolutely stunning, Illowy,” she exclaimed. What good had Ruby done to deserve the privilege of ever being with someone this beautiful and talented?

“I'm sorry for running late, I was making sure I had this for you,” she quickly explained, and held out a corsage with a smile on her face. “Epigaea and ferns.” Thanks for that, Peri, she thought, making a mental note to tell him how it went. The young wizard had helped her obtain the epigaea and figure out flower language that would be appropriate for the situation. Eventually, it had resulted in something that roughly meant that she felt a budding, sincere, magical fascination, which was completely true. The bright smile she wore would not be wavering any time soon. Whenever Illowy had accepted the corsage and made it a part of her outfit or, alternatively, rejected it, Ruby would simply ask, “May I?” She extended an arm for Illowy to take if she wanted to, and Ruby would attempt to guide her into the ball side by side. A carefree smile showed her happiness, the feeling that this was where she was meant to be.

She would scan the room, light blue eyes taking in the decorations and the bustling of the students. The presence of people all around her living vibrant lives of their own with friends and connections and fancy costumes might have affected her differently had her current circumstances not been applicable. In her first year and much of her second year, she would have been particularly interested in observing these students in an attempt to learn more about them and their behaviours. For part of her second year into her third year, she would have been resentful or aloof. But none of that was the case this time. While she glanced around in the hopes of spotting a friend, the focus of her attention was just on one special person tonight. The music was perfect for dancing to and Ruby turned to face Illowy, the irrepressible smile growing into an even wider grin. “Might I have the pleasure of accompanying you in a dance?” she asked in a playfully serious tone, eyes shining with a childish eagerness. She had forgotten to ask Illowy's thoughts on dancing ahead of time or if she had any other plan for tonight, but Ruby supposed she would find out soon enough.

Mars smiled into the rim of their cup as they listened to Lindsey speak. She seemed bright, sociable and friendly, and they automatically felt their shoulders relax, eyes trained on the Hufflepuff.

They half-snorted at her question. Okay, it was a fair assumption, seeing as they'd asked first, and earlier this evening they had been contemplating doing it, but now that the words were said aloud, it seemed ridiculous. Them, going to a ball with someone? It had been enough of a pain to drag themselves here as it was.

"No, no," they smiled at her, I'm just here for the food honestly. I don't know about Cash though. They're usually so popular that I was surprised when they bothered with me at all." Mars gave their friend a teasing grin, folding their arms over their chest.

A look back at Lindsey and Mars noticed that her eyes had wandered. Tracing her gaze, their eyes landed on two figures. Hmm. A boy and a girl, chatting. Dates, perhaps? They glanced back at their companion and suddenly, the pieces clicked. Was that...

"Is one of them your date?" they asked, a sly grin starting to spread over their face. They didn't want to assume sexuality, but they felt confident enough to say that one of them was the Princex Charming Lindsey was waiting for. Why else would she be starting?

Shifting their weight, Mars finally put the cup back down on the table. They pushed themselves up, rocking back on their heels, and rubbed their hands together.

"Well then, Lindsey," Mars laughed, "Shall we go and deliver you?"

Ah. As he'd assumed, it'd only taken a few minutes for his next partner to arrive. Her steps seemed sure and steady as she weaved through the crowd, dress swaying around her form. It was tasteful, solid-colored, and flattered against the gold accents, hair done up neatly. Maybe a bit... boring for his tastes, but he'd certainly seen worse.

When she stopped in front of him, Alexander couldn't help but admire something hidden in her eyes. He would admit—however occasionally—that there existed people he felt a sort of calling to. Perhaps it was a recognition of himself in those irises.

He couldn't help but smirk internally at her expression as she appraised him though. For all he saw of himself in her, there was their difference in levels. Alexander was never anything less than a gentleman, soft and charming in every aspect. Raised eyebrows right off the bat... one could never be too careful about first impressions.

Her next words sent him into a split of harried thoughts as well. A large part of him was spent keeping his smile effortless and tone straight as he replied, "Miss Katherine? No, not a date. Just a" plaything "request I thought rude to turn down." He wanted so badly to burst out laughing at her words. He could do better? Of course he could. What an absolutely tasteless thing to say though. Again he could see the difference in their abilities—to have those thoughts was only natural, but to say them? That was the biggest red flag there was. The possibilities, the number of people who might be listening—

His point was proven not a second later.

A young girl, dripping in all black, walked up to them. Alexander had half a moment to be appalled at her outfit before she unleashed a tirade of insults at his new partner. He could hardly believe his ears. It seemed entirely uncalled for, incredibly inappropriate, and to a large degree, quite disgusting. There was nothing more disgraceful than jabbing at someone's appearance. Who stooped so low as to do that? At the very least, couldn't she have come up with some well-thought-out insults? Come now, only people who didn't know what they were talking about came with those points.

There was a bloom of something protective in his chest. He might not know the name of the girl who'd come up to him, but he respected her far more than this stranger. She would probably prove to be annoying in the future, but at least she had the decency to appear graceful and intelligent. He could hardly say that about the other one.

"My dear, there's no need for such hostility," he spoke, shifting his body half in front of his partner. She'd only stated the truth, after all. He really could do better. "A ball is something we're meant to enjoy.

He smiled, leaving himself loose. Looking back at his partner, he deemed her strong enough to speak for herself. He'd let her defend. No need to say more.

Dee was basically gloating as Zyk seemed to be shocked into speechlessness at first sight of the ballroom. They had done an incredible job, that wasn't arrogance, just facts. She grinned at the Irish phrase, then, not wanting to take all the credit, added, "It is, isn't it? Flash did most of the work here. We should stop by the Costume Party later, too, Peri did a great job there." She wasn't going to mention where Ileen and her efforts had been focused, that was for later. She wasn't going to ruin the surprise by giving out hints.

Her eyes were shining as she tugged him further forward. She hadn't been bothered by him changing her hold on his wrist to them holding hands, just as she hadn't when they'd done the same thing at summer camp. It certainly was more convenient, and it would be easy to lose each other in the crowd if they didn't hold onto each other. And a crowd it was, already, although the ball had barely really started.

When Zykeal agreed to dance before she'd even finished asking, Dee paused for a moment, taken by surprise, before she burst into laughter, and nodded in agreement. "You know how to dance?" she asked, a little surprised, then added an explanation. "It doesn't seem like your kind of thing." Not that it was her kind of thing, but still. "But yes, let's go!"

Out on the dance floor, Dee happily took the opportunity to twirl around, the fringes of her dress flying, the golden decorations catching the candle light that illuminated the ballroom. Her general dancing skills notwithstanding, spinning around was something she did often enough for no reason that she managed to do it gracefully and came back around with a smile on her face.

She followed the first few steps easily - this swaying to slow music thing was much easier than what Ileen had tried and failed to teach her, but looked up at Zykeal in response to his hand on her hip, eyebrows raised, expression lighthearted teasing. "You know that your hand isn't supposed to be on my hip?" she asked. At least that's what Ileen had said. Was she a know-it-all? Obviously, even if she didn't have the slightest clue about the topic.

Well Angel was rather.. upfront. A blush came across Milosh's face as she returned his flirting attempts quite strongly. The blush escaped through the bottom of his mask and even tinged the tip of his ears. Her speaking was quite smooth and her accent didn't hurt anything. After spacing out for a bit he was brought back when her lovely voice tickled his ear again. "I do commend you for wearing Durmstrang colors, it makes me happy and the red looks nice on you."A small smile graced his lips as he decided to share his internal thoughts, of which he would usually keep to himself.

He watched Angel's face as she took a look around the room before pausing on the floor where others were dancing. The boy silently pinched himself, mentally to prepare himself for asking her to dance. Milo ran a hair through his curly "poodle-like" hair and cleared his throat about ready to ask her. Or he thought he was going to have to ask her, but he was wrong. The girl held out her hand which he glanced at before she asked him to dance. The boy nodded his head slowly and took her hand before leading her to the dance floor.

Angel suggested they could leave after one dance and Milo chuckled. "Mm do you not enjoy it here or do you usually skip parties? The only reason I would see us leaving is because I step on your foot and have to take you to the medical wing." He rolled his eyes at his own joke before slowly wrapping his arms lightly around her neck. He would start a soft swaying side to side, listening to the music drift around the room. Whether she wanted to do ballroom dancing or other sorts or if she even knew how to dance was unknown to him so he started with something simple. It was quite peaceful at the moment, the decorations making the ball feel formal but not overbearingly so and it seemed like everyone was having a good time so far.

The blonde boy looked back at the girl who he held close. "Krasivyy."

Percy looks back to his companion with an uneasy expression at first, but a few seconds later his face fades into a smile "Of course..." replied the boy as he slowly followed beside her to the dance floor. In the mean time, his eyes and ears were wide open for anything out of the ordinary just so he was ready to act when things surely went haywire. The pair slowly came to a halt in the middle and faced each other, before Percy did a smooth bow as an introduction to their dancing. His smile still stayed across his face as he put one hand on her shoulder and another round her waist, making sure to set up his stance properly before they began to slowly dance.

Gray looked into her navy blue eyes and moved his feet elegantly in rhythm to the music, as well as making sure to not step on Amara's foot. So far, it was going perfectly but he couldn't get too comfortable with his surroundings just yet. Although, it was only right to enjoy the moment while everything was peaceful "You doing alright?" questioned the boy thoughtfully as he continued to look into her eyes "My hope is that the rest of the night stays like this, but knowing Hogwarts something is bound to happen" he said with a small shake of his head "But, if it stays like this how we are now I'd leave the ball a happy lad"

It is funny how the green eyes always have a Raven companion by their side. At last ball they attended, they went to the ball with Lizzie Verdine but now the blonde Raven got her own date. After they stood by the other wix's side. Cash can not help to let a small chuckle at Mars quipped.

"Hopefully this ball will end up okay,"The serpent said. "But as you know the ball will end up not according to anyone plan"They added. Cash heard the tale how the last ball went down. When the swarm of Mosps invaded, Cash flee from the scene. And somehow the ball end up with arson.

When Mars offer them some drinks, Cash looked down on the selection of beverage. They eying some pumpkin juice but the green eyes feel like this is not the occasion to drink the said beverage. "A grape juice would be lovely"Cash stated.

As they chat away with the other wix, other bubbly voice enter the room. Cash whipped their head when their name being called. "I am great"Cash told Lindsey. They keep glancing at the entrance. Hoping their date will come soon. At this point Cash done waiting for their date.

They want to have fun. Date or no date. Mars and Lindsey asking the same question towards the green eyes. Whether the Slytherin beater come with anyone or not. "I am supposed to meet someone at this ball but I do not know if that person will attend this ball or not"Cash informed both to Lindsey and Mars.

Shrugging their shoulder and try to hide their disappointment. Cash really do want to spend the night with the ocean eyes girl they met one month ago at the lake. The eyes of the second year kept wondering to the entrance. Secretly they still hoping their date will make her appearance.

The British - Cuban eyes then landed on Starlee. The said girl wear a dress that glitter with little stars on it. Cash want to snort out with how narcissistic the young blonde is.

But both of their eyebrows shot up when another girl approached Starlee and from where Cash stood, both of the young blondes have a confrontation about the things Cash did not know about.

Cash feel bad when Starlee's face become crestfallen. Cash might go see her if they were needed with the said girl. Their attention then back again to both Mars and Lindsey. Mars saying that they did not have a date for this ball and come for the food. Cash smiled at what their friend said.

"I am not that popular though"The Latinx bumped their shoulder toward Mars in playful manner when the Raven said that Cash was one. "And you know it is always a pleasure talking and just generally hang out with you"Cash directly state it to Mars.

"It also always a pleasure with you too, Holly"Cash told Lindsey. Cash just heard the end of tail what Mars said about Lindsey being delivered to somewhere. Cash nodded their head. "Do you want us to go there with you?"The purple hair asked their friend.

As the last of the stragglers began trickling into the ball, Illowy started feeling nervous that Ruby hadn't arrived yet. Naturally, her mind wandered to one of two reasons for such a thing; either she'd managed to scare the girl off, or she might've been in some kind of trouble. Thankfully, her mind didn't have the opportunity to wander too far to imagine the worst case scenario when a flash of blue scurrying towards the ball caught her eye. In spite of the mask, familiar, cool blue eyes gave away the girl's identity before she could even great Illowy. Her heart fluttered a bit as she perked up and an excited smile lifted her features.
“You look absolutely stunning, Illowy,”

Illowy's face flushed bright pink from the compliment as she looked the other over, "Oh wow..." she uttered, almost like a contented sigh. The snake could've kicked herself for how lame of a line that must've sounded, but it escaped her throat before she'd had a chance to come up with something more eloquent; she was just so stunned by the Prefect looking like the image of blue and black, it felt like her brain was buffering. Was this why boys were always so stupid around pretty girls? She thought maybe it was a boy thing, but perhaps it was just an effect all pretty girls had on anyone who might be prone to their charms.

As Ruby apologized for her tardiness, it seemed like the Irish girl was getting her wit about her once more until Ruby then produced the corsage; once again Illowy's vocabulary failed her miserably, "Oh wow..." lame, utterly lame. C'mon brain! "I mean- Its beautiful. And you . You look so... wow..." yeah. Great save. The picture of eloquence and intelligence right there. Hopefully as the night went on, she'd manage to redeem herself.

The girl happily accepted the corsage to her left wrist, eyeing the sweet white flowers and foliage so carefully assembled. She never had anyone give her flowers before other then after a dance performance. And certainly never from someone she had feelings for. She made a mental note to put them up somewhere safe in her dorm to dry so she might have them forever. Then as Ruby offered her arm, Illowy felt her heart flitter up into her throat as she took it graciously and allowed herself to be guided along into the grand Ballroom. A goofy, contented smile on her lips as any nerves, fears or insecurities she'd felt moments ago were left behind at the door as they glided through the crowd.

Inside, it was much easier to take note of people she'd seen coming in, to recognize people here and there, but no one truly had her mind or attention beyond to girl at her side, stealing glances at her once in a while so to try not to get caught flat out staring. She just couldn't help herself. Frankly, it amazed ever her that she'd managed to get Ruby to agree to be her date; even if Illowy wasn't entirely sure what to do with herself now that they were actually here, she figured as long as they were together they'd have a good time. They usually did, even if it was something as simple or mundane as studying. Any excuse to spend time with Ruby seemed worth it to her.

As they came onto the dancefloor, the Prefect turned to face her, asking her to dance. Finally, a second nature skill she was certain wouldn't fail her, "Of course! I love dancing." she grinned, at least uttering something of a decent sentence at last. Dancing was one of the few things outside of her studies and non magic related that Illowy excelled in, and hopefully once her feet were moving, her brain would start working more practically as well.

Before they set out upon the dance floor, she assumed much about him and he couldn't help but offer a slight smirk towards her questions, "You don't know all of me," he offered playfully. Indeed, there was much still to learn about each other, but, if she was willing, he was also willing to open up more with time to her. The community of Dublin where he was from was very tight-knit and often held dance gatherings for the young ones, although his group of friends was the skaters of the streets, they also liked to have a good time.

Exquisite, she was, as she twirled when he took her hand to gently spin her. Those reflections of soft lights that projected from her dress cast by the lanterns in the ballroom danced across his eyes, a picture in slow motion that he captured into memory, always to be remembered as he gazed at the smile upon her face. As the song switched and they took a more soft dance style, she commented upon where his hand placement was, he shrugged as he looked down at those aquamarine hues, "I guess I'll have to move it," he whispered down and shifted his hand from her hip to her back while pulling her closer a little bit, "Better?" he said, that sly smirk pulled back to his features.

All of the people that surrounded them, so many had come to enjoy the festivities and still he couldn't shift his attention elsewhere. The innocence of youth didn't have reservations when it came to matters such as these, there weren't as many walls built of bad experiences, it was raw feelings and enjoyment at being with someone he genuinely was excited to share this moment with. Hopefully, the night went well and nothing like the last ball took place on this evening. Looking down as she stared up towards him, he smiled again and offered, "Ya' know, this is at least my first slow dance," he couldn't help but inform her, "I'ma kinda clumsy with my feet," he looked down to the side, "Hope I don't squish ya'," he continued with a small laugh.

Until the end of the slow song he would stay dancing with her in that manner, slightly nervous of stepping on her, but, finding it quite natural to be fluent with Dealla. Another song would come and pass and he felt the time flying by as others danced around them, coming and going. Dealla had mentioned something about the costume party and he decided to speak up about the subject, "Let's get a drink? I know you said ya' had to run around some," he said, his tone more gentle than normal, "As much as I'd like ta' steal ya' all night..." and he left that comment hanging. Taking her hand once more, he slowly back up and pulled her along, those golden hues staring into her own before he smirked and turned towards the refreshment area where he would lead them. Thoughts passed through his head as this was the first time he had taken his eyes off her from the moment they met at the entrance.

The simple things; her smile when she looked proud of her accomplishments, the way she didn't mind him holding her hand, playful teases to try and break the tension, and the way she looked slightly nervous as they started to dance. All these minute details that pulled him to her just as much as her tugging him along did. Barely did the boy register her words on what the others had done, his eyes lost on her bubbly personality that seemed to shine as excited words flowed from her. Once before he had intertwined their fingers, but, it didn't feel the same as then; now, it was just different. The second-year didn't know what to think of this swell of happiness that radiated through him, he was just along for the ride, wherever the night took the pair.

It took only a moment for them to reach the area where the tables were set up with the refreshments, there was a little punch bowl where he gathered two cups and poured them each one. Zykeal would turn and offer one to Dealla, his other hand shifting to touch the hilt of that wand he had stationed in the old-school gun holster that was strapped along his shoulders. A finger would tap against it before he shifted the hand away from it to grasp his own drink to take a sip from it. Setting the drink down to his side, he questioned, "So, this costume party, do you think we'll fit in?" he looked down at his own attire and figured they would, but, wanted to make small talk.

Finding his gaze shift from his outfit, he looked behind him to the table and murmured quietly, "No Barmbrack..." he observed, how ridiculous. What was a Halloween feast without the famous Irish traditional bread? The boy supposed he could have just called upon a house-elf and request it, but, he didn't like to bother the workers much, they worked tirelessly dealing with children non-stop. Quickly he turned back to Dealla and had a question for her, "What's your favorite sweet?" he continued with the small talk, "I know you had that cake at your birthday, where ya thwapped' me," he smirked, remembering the day.

Unusually, he wasn't that into sweet treats. They never really hit the spot for him much and his palate seemed to prefer more of a salty and savory flavor. This was no issue though, this was his favorite holiday and it was centered around candies and sweets most of the time. It was one of the only days of the year he didn't mind having more than the normal amount. Once again though, his gaze stayed upon Dealla, unable to take his eyes off her own for a little while as she responded to him and talked. Before long though, he felt the need to take a quick observation of their surroundings.

Lingering worries kept nagging at the back of his thoughts as the last ball seemed to flash like a fireball through his eyes. The creature's attacks and the chaos that followed left the then first-year with an impression of absurd danger that surrounded the young students at all times. As he looked around, he made sure, to keep an eye out for anything that seemed wrong and out of place. Now, his hand that was free was resting his fingertips against the ivory-white hilt of his wand as his eyes meticulously scanned the room before the beautiful pair.

Wyatt could clearly see how his words had affected the Hufflepuff. Her slight gloomy expression and glossy eyes were what gave it away… until it didn’t. Seemingly out of nowhere, her face lost all of its emotion. "Yes," she said. After a chuckle, she continued, "you're probably right. So, who did you come here with?" Wyatt was more than annoyed. The familiarity was gone! Now he was back to feeling terribly anxious about the whole event. About his beautiful date that he was terrified to talk to...

He wasn’t going to let that happen. He wasn’t going to let Autumn be the bigger person. She was going down right alongside Wyatt in this meaningless fight he was instigating. If only Springhall could see him now. She'd probably never talk to him again. “Oh, like you care,” he said after a scoff. “You’re only talking to me because you want check up on your lab rat for a little where are they now after the rumors thing. Have you spoken to Zoldak already or do I have the honor of being interviewed first,” he asked, his tone bitter.

From where he sat in the chair, leaning back with one leg draped over the other, he looked Autumn up and down quickly, though it wasn’t to observe, just to make her feel awkward. “I don’t know how thick you think I am, but I’m not so incredibly stupid that I’d believe your true intentions are good right now. Having a conversation with me like we’re old pals? We’re barely acquaintances, you sorry excuse for a Hufflepuff.”

Was he just taking out his anxiety and inexplicable anger (that he always had) on Autumn cause she was the closest thing around at the moment? Yes. Did he care? Not really! What, was he supposed to? Being the selfish twelve-year-old brat Wyatt was, he was willing to pick a fight with anyone to keep himself from dealing with his anxiety and sitting around with his own thoughts. It wasn’t like he was ruining a friendship. He didn’t have any to ruin, and especially not with Autumn Artemia Ivy.

Interacting with @Atlas Reid
Ethen let out a slight chuckle as he was called gorgeous by his date. He was pretty sure he had never been called gorgeous but he knew Atlas tended to get as nervous as him when it came to complimenting one another. When she mentioned his shiny shoes, he slightly lifted his foot with a nod. “Well, you know I do love a shiny shoe,” he smiled as the girl’s face began to redden. He found it still odd how just the slight shift in their relationship had turned them from the closest of friends to awkward bumbling messes who seemed like they barely knew one another. But Ethen hoped that it would only get easier.

Peering into the eyes of the little fox, Ethen kept his smile as they began their clumsy dance. He knew they likely looked a bit awkward as they moved across the dance floor but each moment of the dance allowed Ethen to relax more. It began to feel like he was just enjoying some crazy time with his best friend again despite being unable to pull his eyes off the girl. Her hair was shorter than usual and each time he refocused on her face a warmth moved through him of pure happiness.

“I have to say, you are the finest dancer I have ever danced with,” Ethen said through a smile as the girl diverted her focus momentarily towards the floor. In truth, she was the only person he had ever danced with but he had enjoyed every second close to her. “Another few balls and we might be professional,” he said giving her hand a light squeeze.

Just as Ethen began to feel the music’s rhythm and believed that he and Atlas might not look as crazy, the intense and dramatic tune turned into a soft and slow rhythm. Halting and the dance to peer at the others, Ethen kept his fingers interlaced with Atlas’ as he watched for a moment. It seemed that the slower tone of the music that the students quickly shifted into a more intimate slow dance that seemed more like tight hugging with a little sway.

All the fake bravado of the first dance quickly left Ethen as he turned back to Atlas. They had hugged plenty of times but this seemed much different and he didn’t even know if the girl wanted to slow dance. No! Don’t talk yourself out of it. Come on, you can do it, he told himself. “I guess no more jigging,” Ethen said softly to Atlas.

After inhaling and exhaling deeply to calm his growing nerves, Ethen released her hand and wrapped both his hands around Atlas’ waist before pulling her closer into a tentative hug. Close enough to feel the girl’s warmth, Ethen could feel his heart pounding in his chest and wouldn’t have been surprised if it hopped out of his chest to run away. Only moving his feet slightly, Ethen began to sway some to turn the tightening embrace into some semblance of a dance. So close to the girl, he found himself unable to speak as if his jaw was welded shut.

Peering down at Atlas, Ethen couldn’t peel his eyes away from her. Even behind her mask, his eyes could see her soft and familiar features. He began to have a nearly screaming impulse to lift his mask to kiss the girl. His nerves kept him from moving on the impulse. She was his best friend and had come as his date but didn’t know if it was still the right move. He didn’t want to make things awkward and a sudden unwanted kiss was just about the most perfect way to make the rest of the night an uncomfortable mess. Come on, you can do it! No no, bad idea. Or it is the best idea! Or she would get mad at me. Hush just relax Ethen. Don’t be so awkward. His mind continued to wage its war but with each passing moment, he began to relax more with the feel of Atlas in his arms.
