A Tinge of Teal

Katrina Walker smiled as she walked into the girl's bathroom. Dying hair was one of the things that she picked up on and loved doing. She had been puzzling with a bunch of different ideas she wanted to know. She had a bunch of different bottles and tubes in her leather satchel at her side. She was thinking about a light teal for a lock of her hair on her right hand side.

Katrina pushed open the door and looked in the mirror. Her hair was a light auburn color. It fell past her shoulder and rested on her chest and middle back. It was thick and luscious and laid in natural chunks. When left alone, it parted to her left side. Daily Katrina showered it and weekly washed it to keep her hair in good condition. She rarely did anything more to brush in each morning. Her hair had bits of split ends from her self-cutting it. Besides that damage, her hair was healthy.

She set out a few tubes and rinsed a lock of her hair in the cold bathroom water. She set a white towel on her shoulders to protect her clothes. She ran a quick brush through her hair and smoothed a bit of valylene around her hair line to ensure the dye didn't dye her skin. The pupil set up her hair dye and mixed it up. She started about an inch from her hair line and squeezed more in running her fingers through the hair.

Thirty minutes went by and her hair was done. Katrina wiped the Vaseline off and washed out her hair. She finished with a touch of shampoo. The color was brilliant and Katrina was confidant in her knew style. It was a first step on becoming more outgoing. Thinking of that made her look around. Someone had come it while she was working, a stall was full.

"Oh, hi I-I didn't see you come in!" she said brightly.

She had just been outside. While it was nice to see snow and leaves, there was a certain point where is what annoying. She had gotten whacked in the face a lot by the leaves, feeling some of the grime transfer onto her face and hands. She was normally okay with this, but today, she wanted it off. Now. She quickly ran up to the fourth floor, surprising herself with her speedily she had managed to do the mini-trek.

She opened the door, seeing someone having almost finished dyeing their hair. She smiled, before indicating that she needed a few minutes. Walking over to one of the faucets, she splashed some water onto her face, rubbing off any of the excess water. It made her feel a little better, so she watched the girl with interest. The teal was a nice addition to the girl's hair, and she enjoyed how it stood out from the rest of the girl's auburn hair. She smiled, tucking a strand of hair back.

"You did that yourself? Wow. Have you done it before? It looks quite pretty." She smiled, before looking at herself in the mirror, a streak of any color would be interesting, although she likely needed to bleach her hair first in order to do so. Her friend had told her about the process before, but she had never done it. Her hair was already enough trouble as it was.

The girl splashed some water on her face and smiled brightly. The girl looked nice, vaguely familiar, though Katrina hadn't seen her before, or so she thought. She tucked some hair behind her ear before speaking. It was nice to be flattered from someone she hadn't even met. Dying her hair had certainly led to a new interaction.

"No, I have done it a few times. It is the first time I went for teal though." she smiled noting the new girls hair. "I am Katrina, by the way," she almost offered to dye that girl's hair too. She had an array of colors with her already, and she had the stuff already out and prepared. She could do a few week style or a more permanent. She even had a two day wash out of a few colors if she wanted to try out a color first.

She nodded to what Teiki said before speaking, "I understand we have just met... but would you like me to do your hair as well?" Katrina blushed a little, for it was unlike her to be loud and open right after meeting them. She was usually more held back and reserved.

The Masked Ball had changed her in many ways. It forced her to be more open and make actions with little thought beforehand. It is what led her to spend her Christmas Break in London, even though her family was gone. The fire last March had killed them. It now seemed that everyone knew that. It was likely Teiki would know the story that went with her name before she knew hers.

Katrina smiled and ran her fingers through her newly dyed hair, making sure it was fairly separated.

"Well, it was a good choice. I'm Teiki." She nodded, still smiling. Katrina seemed nice to her, and reminded her of Reina. Both were older than her, or at least, she assumed that for Katrina. She vaguely was reminded of some news that had spread about a Katrina, but she wasn't sure if it was her...

"I understand we have just met... but would you like me to do your hair as well?"

"I- sure." The question had gotten her a bit off guard, reminding her of an early experience to dyeing one's hair. But her friend had liked the new color, so it hadn't been too bad in the end. She even kept it, which Teiki had been awed by. She had been quite against it in the beginning. She glanced at her hair in the mirror, debating what she would like done.

Her jet black hair was long, going down to a little beyond her hips. It was straight, only curving towards the end, as well as towards the top, from being held in many pigtails. She had yet to get split ends, but was sure it would happen soon, since all she did was brush it, and use shampoo. It parted slightly to the left, allowing her side bangs to rest, framing her face. Her hair was thick, and slightly oily, the light bouncing off of her hair in certain sections. Overall, it was healthy, although she certainly could've done more for it.

She looked at the variety of colors, before pointing at two of them. One was a pure, slightly pale, blue, while the other was a bright pink. She didn't really want to do both of them, so she glanced up at Katrina.

"I think I'd like to do one section, but only one of those colors, if that's alright. You choose." She paused, before nodding, sure with her decision.

Teiki was a wonderful name! Katrina was always awed at the variety of names and pasts that students at Hogwarts had. Teiki was a name she hadn't heard before. She smiled a bright smile, one that seemed to fill the room with joy. She gave a thoughtful look at her before continuing.

Katrina ginned and bounced on her heels as Tieki looked at her hair. They Gryffindor took the moment to size up her hair. It was jet-black and long. It was slightly curvy, but otherwise strait. It was in good care and didn't seem to have any product in it. It had a healthy shine to it too. Katrina thought just a normal dye would most likely look fine. It would have to be strong since her hair was black though, or she would have to bleach it.

Katrina looked at the two colors and picked them up, scanning over the labels. "I think the blue one would turn out a look darker, but it would look good. I do think the pink would work better though-- see here, it says that it works for darker hair color as well. Yes, I think the pink would be best."

She quickly shook up the dye once she took it out of the box. She took a step closer to Teiki and ran her fingers through her hair. "Come here quick, I will need to wash just this chunk. This size look good to dye?" She asked holding out a large-ish chunk, similar to the amount she had dyed on her own hair.

The lion let Teiki wash her hair as she primed the dye. She mixed it together and got gloves on.

"Also, take this. It's Vaseline, you put it on your hair line-- right here-- to make sure the dye doesn't get your skin," she handed out the little container and showed where to put the goo.

She waited for Teiki to get that done before draping the towel over her shoulders. "Just so we don't dye your shoulders or your shirt!" It felt nice getting all of that out of the way. It made her feel like a real hair specialist.

She noticed Katrina seemed to bounce with happiness, which warmed Teiki. It also helped relieve her of any of the anxiety she might've felt from doing something such as this. It wasn't something that normally happened, after all. Plus, it was her first time.

She nodded along to the reasoning for the two dyes she had chosen, ultimately leading to the pink being picked. She agreed that it would certainly look nice, although she suspected anything could if the person knew what they were doing. And she was certain that Katrina knew exactly how this all worked.

"Yep, looks great." She gently held onto the section of hair, washing it in one of the near faucets. She made sure to get the entire strand, not leaving the top or bottom of it dry. It took a little more time then she had expected, but it was washed rather quickly. She turned around to get some more instructions from the auburn girl, smiling a little.

"You sure you don't do this for a living?" She laughed softly as she placed the vaseline on her hair line. Her blue eyes glanced inquisitively at Katrina, hoping the comment didn't rub her in the wrong way. It was praise, for Teiki felt relaxed, and calm, knowing what she needed to do. The instructions were clear, and the girl was quite nice about the entire thing.

She handed back the container, before allowing the other girl to drape the towel. She glanced in the mirror, watching her all black hair for a moment.

It was soon to change.

It helped that Teiki was so excited and relaxed about it all. The praise caused Katrina to blush. She made what she thought was a professional face. She grabbed the bottle and 'artistically' shook it.

"Alright, so now: I will slather this through your hair and then we will just wait for thirty or so minutes until it is done" Katrina smiled and squirted some dye into her gloved hand.

Katrina ran the dye through her hair. The pink tint in her black hair looked promising. She made sure to run it about an inch from the hairline to the tips of her hair. She did a few coats since Teiki's hair was so dark. It would be disappointing if it didn't work at all.

"Alright, now all we have to do is wait!" Katrina smiled and took off her gloves, "So tell me about yourself. Age, house, year, favorite color, if you have had your hair dyed before."

Katrina waited before she was done before answering the questions herself, "So, I, am Katrina Walker, Gryffindor, Second year, 12 years old and I used to dye sections of my hair-- like this-- all the time," She smiled remembering the time she and Liam dyed a large chunk of their hair pink on a dare. He had hated it.

Beth wandered down the corridor, confusion on her face is evident. She had spent the last 10 minutes searching for her way back to the Slytherin common rooms after deciding to wander around the grounds for a while. Bad decision. She had completely given up at this point, she had peaked through every door she could see before bursting into a final promising-looking door. The head-whirring smell of chemicals hit the raven-haired's nose and through the dingy light, she could instantly tell that the room she was in was most definitely not the Slytherin common room but instead the very far away girls lavatory.

Beth spotted the two girls up ahead of her, one with auburn hair with a rather cool looking greeny-teal streak going through it and the other who was obviously still going through the process of dying hers. The mess around them was evident with their dye bottles dispersed around the girls' bodies with various pieces of equipment -Beth had no idea was one meant to do with- scattered along and in the sinks.

They clearly weren't ready for her abrupt arrival. Neither was Beth, honestly. It was quite a random thing to be doing in these particular toilets to her knowledge but she brushed it off, plastered on a confident smile before opening her mouth.

"So. What's going on here then?".

She tried to stop herself from nodding any further, not wanting to mess up the dye. She recognized that her nodding probably wouldn't affect anything, but honestly, better safe than sorry. Instead, she smiled, trying to affirm with her eyes, or a small thumbs up.

She watched as Katrina placed the dye in her hair, making sure it had multiple coats. She was surprised that they didn't need to bleach the hair, but was happy about it. It also was probably a little healthier for the hair she suspected. It was then that she realized that she had forgotten to ask a pretty important question. But it didn't matter too much, she supposed, so long as she liked the color.

"So, uh, how long should the dye stay in?" She was fine with it, so long as it wasn't permanent. Even then, it wasn't too big of a deal. She listened to the other girl speak, realizing that this was the Katrina mentioned in some of the chatter. She debated asking about it, but kept silent.

"I'm 11, First Year, Hufflepuff. Uh, lavender. And I've never dyed my hair, although a friend had completely dyed hers." She heard the door creak open, glancing to see the newcomer. It appeared to be another first year, although perhaps a little confused. Understandable, she thought, considering the activity they were doing. Dyeing hair likely wasn't a common thing to happen in the Hogwarts castle.

"She's helping me dye hair. Since I have no clue, and she obviously knows how to." She indicated towards the teal streak in Katrina's hair.

She blushed when Teiki mentioned that she didn't know how long it would stay in. She quickly looked at the small box and turned to Teiki, "It says two weeks with good care and up to five if you are careful with it." she paused before adding, "I'm sure you could take it out pretty easy if you don't like the color as much. I could also dye it another color later if you want to try."

Katrina nodded as she talked about herself. So this was the first time she had dyed her hair. Katrina debated telling her all of the rules but she was sure Teiki would figure things out or ask if she needed. That was when another girl appeared at the door.

She blushed as Teiki spoke, "I'm dying her hair." she smiled repeating what Teiki said. Katrina paused before adding, "I mean. I could do yours if you would like. I have a bunch of colors over their if you want to take a look through,"

Katrina left Teiki's side and began cleaning up. She took a rag and cleaned up any of the colored water. The colors were all out in display on the ground by the sink organized in rainbow order. She put away the rest of the stuff they wouldn't need in a little organizer bin she had. The smell was strong and she realized it was because a bin was open. She closed it and opened a window hoping the smell would drift out.
