A Strange Hunt
Running water. One would think in a building the size of Hogwarts, it would be no difficulty at all to find decent running water. But throughout her search, Maisy had had little luck, and felt like something of a failure. It was one of the girl's in the common room who suggested the girl's bathroom on the 5th floor. The suggestion, of course, came with certain warnings about a miserable, crotchety old ghost, but desperate times and measures...
And so, with the hand drawn map she'd taken to carting with her everywhere, she made hey way from the basement, several floors up, until, with some aid from a few passing students, she located what she was looking for...
Or at least, what she had thought she was looking for.
Slipping inside, she looked around the dreary, grey slabbed room and frowned a little. There was, blessedly, no sign of any mopey specters, but it didn't appear to be in the best working condition, either, and there was a dinginess to it all that made her more than a little hesitant to even try.
There was also the uncomfortable realization that she couldn't exactly drag Yvaine into the girl's room...
"Blast..." She muttered, to no one in particular.

A Strange Hunt
Crying in front of John had been too much for her. So after they'd talked she retreated to whatever empty place she could find that would suit the need.. to.. cry a little bit. So hiding in one of the stalls, she let it out. She cried about missing her sister and her mother and her father and their cat, Charming. Boy was she mad that Dalia insisted she not take him with her to Hogwarts..
And she would've felt sorry for herself a little bit longer if the door didn't open, and footsteps clicked across the tile floor. She immediately clamped a hand over her mouth and tried to stop her hiccuping. Sadie refused to let anyone else see this part of her..
She furiously rubbed at her eyes and tried to lessen the redness, which was probably the opposite of what would have helped. The girl who entered said something, like.. 'Blast'? And involuntarily, Sadie hiccuped through her clenched teeth.
Not really keen on showing herself even after outing her presence, Sadie stayed silent, shuffling her feet awkward, hoping the girl would just leave.

A Strange Hunt
At the hiccup, Maisy Dane spun around so fast that she somehow managed nearly an entire three-hundred and sixty degrees, before her feet slipped out from under hear falling completely on her backside. She had heard about the ghost in the abandoned bathroom... about Moaning Myrtle, but she had rather hoped she might avoid running into her. It wasn't that Maisy thought the poor dead girl wasn't worth talking to, and she wasn't one to judge anyone for being sad... but it was a little disconcerting, thinking of ways to console the formerly living.
But leaving seemed rude, especially since there was no way Myrtle hadn't heard her...
Swallowing, she pushed herself up off the floor and slowly, she approached the stall where the sound had echoed from. Clearing her throat - because it felt appropriate to announce herself - she knocked softly, "M...Myrtle? Sorry. If... Sorry if I... Um... Hm."
Leaning back on her heels, Maisy tugged at her braid, "I didn't mean to interrupt..." (Could you even interrupt a ghost?) "I was just looking for water, is all... Running water, but I forgot this was the girl's toilet, and well, I can't bring Eevee here, so I was just going to go, but I didn't want to go without saying something... Are... are you okay?"

A Strange Hunt
Clamping her hands over her mouth again as Maisy gasped, spun, and fell, and it took everything in Sadie's power not to burst out laughing. How could she forget.. Moaning Myrtle! She'd heard about the whining ghoul's countless scares. Seemed this girl really hated ghosts. Now knowing she could sniff freely, Sadie wiped her face and cleared her eyes, listening to the girl mumble an apology.
This was.. a pretty good outcome, considering she'd been thinking about all the ways she was going to pass off crying in the bathroom, because she did not want to lay all her problems on a stranger. Twice in one day would be bad enough! She considered letting the prank run on a little longer, but she had just slipped and fallen..
Once Maisy rattled out her final question, Sadie burst into laughter, laughter that was a little less ethereal as she unlocked the stall and stumbled out, holding her gut and laughing so hard she thought she might split in two.
"Oh... hahaa... you thought I was Myrtle! Oh, that's good. That's really good. Hahahaha!" Sadie said through her tears, now of laughter, holding out a hand to aid Maisy up off the floor. "Who the heck is Eevee? That's a Pokemon."

A Strange Hunt
Rubbing her elbow, with was a little more sore than she'd expected, Maisy looked down and away, and as she did, the stall burst open, a girl folded over in hysterics and for the second time that day, Maisy found herself flat on her butt. Staring up, wide-eyed, she half expected to see the bespectacled ghost staring back, but she was surprised to find the laughing girl was very much corporeal... and holding out a hand to her.
Reaching up, Maisy took hold and pulled her self to her feet, and because laughter was contagious (and ultimately less mortifying than bursting into tears), Maisy gave a chuckle, rubbing the back of her neck, "I just... I heard the... and well, she's supposed to be pretty weepy... And I felt bad just leaving without trying to say..."
Lowering her hand, she smiled, "Eevee is a Pokemon, but he's also my best friend. Yvaine. He's a Ravenclaw... and you..." Studying the girl a minute, she nodded, "You're a Gryffindor, right? Brave and all... I'm Maisy. Maisy Dane. I'm a Slytherin, but, well... I'm not a very good one, I guess."
Laughing softly, she shrugged, "Yvaine and me, we're trying to get his Nintendo DS to run at school, onacounta electronics don't work here, and he thought maybe running water would do the trick... so I thought, well, toilets have taps, but... I sort of forgot about the whole... boys and girls thing."

A Strange Hunt
"Hmn." Sadie muttered, digesting all that Maisy had to say. And boy, was it quite a bit. After recovering from her fit of laughter and pulling the girl back to her feet, Sadie gazed at herself momentarily in the mirror before returning her attention to Maisy. She was going on about her other friend, someone nicknamed Eevee. What a strange nickname.. but if it had to be anything, Sadie supposed it was best to be Pokemon.
"Yeah... I don't think the running water would've helped much either way." Sadie said with a shrug. "But anyway.. I'm Sadie. Sadie Lewis." Sadie nodded, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Yes, I'm in Gryffindor. Not so hard to tell, robes are colorful and all.."
"You're muggleborn, aren't you? They only ever know two words to describe a house." She rolled her eyes, seeming unimpressed, and impatient. "I don't know what that's supposed to mean.. not a very 'good' Slytherin. You mean you're not very good at being evil? Obviously that's not Slytherin. But.. dang, playing DS does sound fun.. it's a real shame electronics don't work here. Got no idea why... it's quite outdated." Sadie huffed, shaking her head. What a joke.

A Strange Hunt
Chuckling, Maisy nodded, "Yeah... I guess it's kind of a long shot in general. But it gives us something to do when we don't have class, and it's kind of fun! Like a mystery, you know?" With a shrug, she tucked her hands into her pockets and looked around the miserable drab-grey bathroom. She could almost understand why Moaning Myrtle was so depressed... There was literally nothing in the room that brought a sense of warmth or joy.
"It's nice to meet you, though, Sadie Lewis!" Grinning as Sadie continued, she nodded, "I am Muggleborn! But I just meant I wasn't very crafty, or ambitious. They're not all that bad, honestly, the Slytherin. They just get a bad rep, cause of the few bad ones, but I've got a few friends that are brilliant. And anyway, I don't think it matters all that much, you know? Not everyone is gonna be exactly like the rest of the people in their house, and that's okay. That's what makes us all so interesting!"
Her eyes shifted to the door and she gestured, "You um... you okay if we... It's just... I'm sort of afraid of the ghosts, you know? I know I shouldn't be, because they're not like they are in my... in the Muggle world, but it's just kind of freaky, still."
