Bridget Collins did not go looking for fights, nor could she fathom the reasoning of her peers who did. There was always a better, more logical solution, or at least one that wasn't as messy and didn't earn you a detention. It was crazy how quickly that entire rule had been abandoned when she'd found Katrina near unconsciousness in that hallway, immobilized and burnt. Still, it wasn't as if she was seeking out conflict as the solution to a problem; she was heading towards a fight for the sake of revenge.

Finding who'd done it had been all too easy between Katrina's description and the abundance of rumors surrounding a girl of the same last name and appearance who apparently had a habit of setting people on fire. Surprisingly, it was someone she knew through the latest S.W.A.G. game: Anastasia Beckett, second year Gryffindor, soon to be the very first to discover why you did not mess with Bridget's friends.

Identifying the offender was one thing, but finding her in an optimal location was a complete other. She saw the girl, sure, but she couldn't just go attacking her in the middle of the Great Hall or in a class. Not if she wanted to make her pay. It had taken quite a bit of the Slytherin's self-control to not fire away all the most painful, miserable spells she knew whenever she saw her, but she'd kept her fury in check.

Finally, six days after the incident, the perfect opportunity arose. As had become routine the past few evenings, the second she was done with homework, every moment she wasn't at Quidditch practice was spent roaming the halls for the Gryffindor. She couldn't have asked for a better scene than the one before her--Anastasia was alone in the Study Room and the hallways all around were empty.

The snake slipped into the room, leaning casually against the door frame, eyes narrowed at the back of her target. This was her chance, and she was not going to miss it. So what if it earned her the detention that would tarnish her so-far spotless record? She couldn't bring herself to care.

"Anastasia Beckett." A statement of the girl's name, nothing more, the first words to pierce the silence and make her presence known. Her tone sounded quite even, perhaps even a little bored. With her casual stance, one could hardly even tell that she was here for sinister reasons. The wand in her hand, tapping against her side, was the clearest sign that she would ready to pounce. "What exactly do you think is okay with setting someone on fire, Flipendoing them into a wall, and then leaving them there unable to move or speak?"

That should do the trick to jog her memory, venom bleeding into the words. It wasn't the most iconic opening speech, but she was still learning. This was, after all, the first time she'd initiated a fight, and it felt right to open with words rather than spells. But despite the diplomatic start, Bridget had absolutely no intention of talking this out.

Ana was absorbed in her Charms essay, scribbling furiously as she tried in vain to catch up with all of the assignments that she has fallen behind on. It was really quite stupid and didn't help that she kept being interrupted by people wanting to talk about various things or bemoan their life problems. Ana didn't care. She wanted to do her homework and occasionally bully first years. That was about it.

As she finished the conclusion of her essay, she heard someone enter the room but ignored them. Whoever it was said her name, which resulted in Ana shooting a death glare over her shoulder. Did nobody know that the Study Room was to bloody study? Honestly, between the first years who chose to sort out their relationship drama here and the older students who thought this was an appropriate place to wail and sob, Ana was seriously starting to wonder if anyone at Hogwarts had any idea what studying actually meant.

She finished writing the last word of her essay as the girl began to speak again. "First off, I didn't flipendo anyone into any walls, and secondly, that order of spells is completely wrong if you're referring to my defending myself against that redhead with the stupid blue streak," Ana said dryly, her fingers wrapping around the wand that sat on the table before her. The girl's tone signaled to Ana that she was likely going to attempt to hex her. For God's sake, did she have to do this now? Ana still had several assignments to work on and really was not in the mood to deal with yet another crazy person who felt it necessary to attack random students. While Ana would admit she hadn't been nice to the whiney redhead on their first meeting, she certainly hadn't done anything to warrant a random ambush in the hall. Quite frankly, it wasn't Ana's fault that the redhead couldn't actually cast any spells and Ana could. She hadn't started the fight, and yet here this girl was acting as though Ana was running around assaulting people.

"If you'd like, I could do the same to you," Ana said lazily, rising slowly to face her wannabe opponent. She balanced caution and awareness that she was about to be attacked with a causal attitude as though this girl wasn't worth her time. She really wasn't, seeing as Ana knew she was excellent at Incendio Duo and was about to use that knowledge on this girl.

"In any event, I have far better things to be doing, so I'll make this quick. Incendio Duo!" she said. Unfortunately (rolled 1), her casual attitude and tired brain meant that her normal mastery of the flame making spell backfired and set her on fire. Lovely...

The Slytherin merely raised an eyebrow at the glare Anastasia sent her way, but as she'd hoped, it was her accusation that got her attention, and quite possibly pushed the right buttons. The other girl retorted something along the lines of that she had the spell order all wrong and that Katrina had attacked her first. Bridget's eyes narrowed, although mostly to hide her confusion. Katrina had cast first? She'd just assumed the Gryffindor had attacked first... But it didn't matter. Anastasia had still hurt her friend, and she was still going to pay. She didn't come here to argue with the girl over who's fault this whole thing was anyways.

It was admittedly a little hard to keep up the careless act and avoid looking scared when the girl rose from her chair, wand in hand, asking if Bridget would like to end up the same way, but she managed well enough. The answer was obviously no, but she couldn't help but feel rather satisfied. If Anastasia was the one to cast the first spell, that might just be something she could use to her advantage when they got in trouble, if only to get out of the worst of the consequences and not completely destroy her reputation.

And fire the first spell Anastasia did. The brunette flinched, preparing for the not-so-lovely sensation of being aflame, but it never came. Because the spell back-fired. Interesting, she would've thought the queen of setting random students on fire would be incapable of failing that particular spell, but obviously something was off. She certainly did not take this as an excuse to let her guard down--one failed spell could easily be a fluke and there was no way she would leave herself at this girl's mercy. Seeing Anastasia in flames was admittedly somewhat satisfying, since it was exactly the sort of thing she deserved after everyone who'd been burned at her hand, though she didn't smile maliciously or anything of the like. Instead, she simply frowned in disapproval and said aloud, "Not very impressive. I thought you'd at least be competent enough to cast a fire-making spell, since apparently you do that all the time, yet clearly I was wrong." Yes, she was egging her on. It would be easier to beat the Gryffindor if she was being reckless, blinded by rage, or at the very least even out the playing field since she already was fairly consumed by her hatred for Anastasia hurting her friend.

The other amazing thing about Incendio, particularly its more powerful counterpart, was that the flames tended to linger a while before going out. Bridget didn't anticipate Anastasia to take the time to put herself out, but at the very least it would make it just that much harder to focus. Abandoning her spot at the doorway, she strode further into the room, wand held at the ready. Now for her spell of choice. It was something she'd thought over for a while, and she had the perfect one in mind. "Slugulus Eructo," Bridget incanted, careful to say it just right and execute the wand movement flawlessly; she most certainly didn't want this one to backfire. The cast was perfect, shooting out of her wand and nailing the Gryffindor in the chest. With any luck, this would put her on her way to teaching Anastasia not to mess with her friends.

Ana was having a spectacularly bad day so far. She hadn't had enough coffee that morning and her homework was making her brain hurt. Also, she was on fire and vomiting slugs. The latter was irritating and meant that she would probably have to take yet another trip to the hospital wing. She was pretty sure at some point, the nurse was going to just ban her because she was there so often. Could that happen? If it could, Ana was reasonably certain it would happen to her, considering she had been there about a billion times in the few weeks that she'd been back.

"Oh for fuck's sake," she muttered as the nasty slug vomiting curse hit her. That was her least favorite to be hit with. Flames typically burned out in a minute or two and other more painful spells only lasted for a moment or so, but the stupid slugs lasted longer and were painful and frankly just gross. Coughing, she spat one out. Nasty. She was definitely going to need to brush her teeth after this, which was just more time not studying.

The notoriously fiery Gryffindor wasn't as angry as one would expect, more irritated than anything else. She really wasn't in the mood to do this, which had affected her casting. She contemplated just flopping on the ground and screaming her head off and acting like this girl had randomly attacked her, which she really had, until a prefect or professor came and yelled at this Slytherin and possibly gave her detention. However, there were two factors that wouldn't allow Ana to go through with such a plan. The first was her pride, but the second was the possibility that this brat would try and snitch about that other fight. Not that Ana was at fault in that fight, but she had cast spells outside of class, which was in fact against the rules.

That left the option of fighting back and ending this quickly. She could always dial it back to her normal incendio, but she didn't feel like casting more flames was a great idea while she was on fire. If this dragged on much longer, she might revisit that idea. After a moment, she barfed another slug, then collected her thoughts and selected her next spell. "Flipendo! she said firmly, still sounding very bored as though this whole thing was below her. The spell shot past the other girl and Ana huffed slightly. She really didn't feel like doing this, but she was going to need to get it together if she wanted to wrap this up.

Bridget stared on with cold disinterest as Anastasia started puking up slugs. It was the first time she'd used that particular spell, and she wondered if it would be the last. A part of her felt bad--being on fire was unfortunate enough, and vomiting the slimy creatures had to be completely disgusting--but she squashed the feeling. She couldn't feel bad for the girl. Not after she'd hurt her friend. Not now when stopping would just give Anastasia the chance she needed to hit Bridget with some terrible spell. The Gryffindor did not deserve her sympathy, so why was it so hard to keep herself from feeling guilty?

The Flipendo flying towards her helped with her momentary distraction. Instinctively, the brunette stepped to the side, letting the blue light sail past her and hit the wall with a resounding bang. This was exactly why she had to keep going, and her pride was not going to let herself lose a fight she'd started, especially since she'd started it for Katrina's sake. Perhaps she felt bad simply because she was having success and the other girl was not, making it a pretty one-sided fight so far.

Readying her wand again, she contemplated what to cast. The Slug-Vomiting Charm had been pre-decided, but she hadn't planned out every spell she would send Anastasia's way, especially since she'd fully expected to by on fire by now. Well, why not mirror her opponent? "Flipendo!" Unfortunately, she mirrored Anastasia a little too well, and the spell, while emerging out of her wand without a problem, missed. She frowned--clearly she was going to have to focus harder.

God, this girl couldn't even think of her own spells? Honestly, if you were going to start a fight with someone, you ought to think of some sort of strategy that was a little more than simply copying the other person's spells. Fortunately, her opponent not only copied her spell, but she also copied Ana's aim. The spell shot past harmlessly as Ana twisted out of the way.

She sighed. She really had neither the time nor the motivation to continue this nonsense. She was going to need to wrap this up. Contemplating her library of spells for a moment, she settled upon the Knockback Jinx again. Sure, she had just failed at it, and the other girl had as well, but it was her most powerful spell, and if she hit her with a few flipendos in a row, then she would be done with this.

Her stomach turned, possibly remembering the slugs from moments ago, as she readied herself for her spell. Annnd the spell shot past her opponent again. Maybe it was her attitude, the stomach ache, or the creeping exhaustion. Whatever it was, Anastasia was somehow even more over this. Maybe she could just punch the girl in the face a few times?

Anastasia sent yet another Flipendo her way, evident by the shout of the incantation and blue light streaking towards her. Bridget dodged this one, too. Well, more like stumbled. The Gryffindor's spell flew off course, though, nowhere near hitting the brunette, so this time, stumbling cut it [referencing crit fail evasion and accuracy].

Regaining her composure, Bridget narrowed her eyes. What to cast? She had no desire to continue the streak of missed Knockback Jinxes, so it seemed high time to transition to another spell. She wanted to hurt Anastasia Beckett, sure. That was why she was here, to pay her back for hurting her friend. But another spell came to mind that was seemed a better fit than just brute force. Her goal here wasn't to fire spell after spell until Anastasia lost consciousness, after all. The spell that she chose was just the sort of thing that, if it worked, could go to show that Bridget was just playing with Anastasia. That wasn't exactly true--she was sure the Gryffindor was a worthy opponent what with her habit of setting people on fire--but there was something about making this girl dance against her will that drew her attention.

So that was what she cast. "Tarantallegra!" This time the spell worked and Anastasia was dancing. The Slytherin morphed her features into a smirk, hopefully increasing the frustration that surely came with your arms and legs flailing and being unable to do anything about it. In this duel brought about from a desire to get payback for Katrina and, from what she could tell, sheer annoyance, the Dancing Feet Spell seemed a little out of place, but at least it proved she was capable of both coming up with her own spells and landing them after her previous cast. Dance, Anastasia, dance.

God, the stupid Dancing Feet Spell. Ana hated that more than anything other than possibly vomiting slugs. She liked being in control at all times, and losing control, even for a few seconds as the result of a prank spell wasn't something she could stomach. What was worse was her feet seemed to decide that pointe shoe work was the way to go, launching into one Échappé & Sous-Sous after another. That was all well and good except Ana was very much not wearing pointe shoes, and she could tell her feet were going to be very angry with her later.

As her painful pointe continued, she racked her brain for a spell. Flipendo clearly wasn't working, which was a pity, since it was the most powerful, and it would only take three or four hits to knock someone out. She opted to lean back on an old favorite, Incendio. She had cast that enough times to be confident that she could at least make the spell leave her wand, even if she was busy doing ballet involuntarily. Confidently and firmly, she flicked her wand and enunciated the incantation.

This was getting embarrassing. Ana must have cast Incendio a million times before and somehow she still missed. How did she even miss that badly? The other girl had had a nice dodge, to be sure, but Ana doubted it was even necessary based on the spot on the wall where her flame did end up hitting. A small part of her was also mildly concerned that she would get in trouble for damaging school property, but then it occurred to her that she was having an illegal duel, which was probably more serious that a spell went array.

Her opponent in this illegal duel began to dance. She managed to get a spell off through the uncontrollable movement, but it missed so terribly the Slytherin didn't even have to make an effort to dodge.

It looked as though she'd succeeded in annoying the Gryffindor with her cast of Tarantallegra, although it was hard to tell as she couldn't get a good look at her face with all the graceful jumping she was doing. Anastasia was a good dancer, she had to give her that, although how much of that was her skill and how much of it was the spell was impossible to discern.

Alright, she had to focus. The dancing was so out of place it was making the mood of this duel rather on the comical side, but she could not let that distract her. Besides, she couldn't miss her chance--with the girl dancing, she'd have a hard time dodging.

The brunette's eyes narrowed. Right. While authority hadn't yet arrived, she was going to give this girl a taste of her own signature spell. Granted, Anastasia had already set herself of fire, but that wasn't the same. Let's see if this girl could take the spell she so often hurt others with.

"Incendio!" The jet of flames shot out of her wand but missed. Of course it had to miss. Perhaps aided by the fact that even though Anastasia couldn't dodge, the unpredictability of her dancing made her harder to aim at, the flames flew past and ignited one of the tables. She frowned; destroying anything other than Anastasia was not the goal here. With the Gryffindor's dance finally ceasing, she readied herself to keep going; after all, there would be no letting her guard down and extinguishing the fire she started while she was still caught up in this fight.

Aa was on the verge of resorting to physical blows. Not that physical violence was actually anything that was in her favor, but at this point, she doubted it could be worse than this. Her normal dependable magic was shooting all over the place and she had yet to have a spell actually make contact with her assailant. This was seriously embarrassing, and she could only picture what her parents would say. Granted, they wouldn't love the idea of her being in an illegal duel, but they heard she had gotten into an illegal duel and then humiliatingly lost, she somehow felt they would like that even less.

Sighing, she bit her lip and continued to dance as Bridget's spell shot past. Could she really not think of a spell that Ana hadn't done first? Granted, Ana was brilliant and fabulous and imitation was the sincerest form of flattery and all that, but it was nonsense that this girl just felt like copying her spells! If you were going to assault people, at least do it with flair!

The dancing seemed to slow down and then cease, leaving Ana a moment to ponder her next spell. Incendio surely would work if she tried it a second time, right? Emboldened by her certainty, she made eye contact with her opponent. "Incendio!" she said, firmly, flicking her wrist precisely. The spell nearly hit but at the last minute, the flames missed. Ana was going to smack someone. Her head was hurting and she didn't feel great and somehow the person who had started this was completely untouched!
