It had been a fairly dull day, a fairly dull few days really, the past few weeks had been nothing but boring. It seemed that life had decided to go back to being a long boring drag. He wasn't sure why but after his time at Hogwarts, he kept expecting something fun to happen every now and then, today was one of those days. He wished that something interesting would've happened but what he had in mind was nothing like what happened.
Noah was washing his hands in the lavatory, of course, he didn't think of keeping his guard up, there was simply no reason to. Maybe the other person thought the same too, he wasn't particularly careful about being stealthy, he was giggling with his friends about something but Noah ignored it, most people were quite annoying and loud so it didn't mean much to him. Not to say that it was his fault or anything, but he ended up hearing a spell being cast, he vaguely remembered it was a transfiguration spell and he turned back quickly to see the people running away laughing, although Noah wasn't quite sure why that was.
That's till he looked back at the mirror.
From the time Noah was a kid, he was rather quiet. He didn't like raising his voice unnecessarily, he had his moments but mostly he preferred staying quiet. So if anyone was present there, they would have been one of the very few to witness Noah giving out a shriek of terror as he looked at a person looking back at him with bright pink hair. Horrified would be an understatement to describe his mental state. His brain was already thinking about how someday he would be walking around struggling to get a job because of his unreasonable looks. In that moment, Noah had completely forgotten just how silly his train of thoughts was but sometimes it's hard to realize that when you're in that moment yourself.
Whether someone was around or not didn't quite matter to him, he just stood there breathing heavily and trying to calm himself down, although his head wasn't quite in the mood for that so he was just stuck having a staring competition with himself, not having a single idea of what task he should perform next, physically or mentally

Most of the time that Flash was wandering the halls or going about routine, his mind was in another place. He tried to be on vigilant watch for things going wrong, but he couldn't help that he had much to ponder. He even wondered whether other people have to also deal with so much wondering, or if it was some kind of affliction. It would be from these spells of rumination that Flash was awakened by a loud shriek.
Looking over from where he had been washing his hands, it was simple to tell where it came from. A boy with a shock of bright pink hair was fretting at the mirror in near-hysterics. The loud sound of the door thus was likely caused by a prankster running away before they could be made culpable. Frankly, it was a bit funny to see how distressed it made him, as Flash was not yet self-aware enough to realize he was similarly easy to rile into a panic.
That was what made it funny though, the spell could be removed with a simple counter charm, it would be instantaneous, really. He was lucky they didn't jinx or hex him, though he certainly didn't look grateful. Walking over to his side, Flash would have a small smile.
"Don't panic, I can remove it." Flash said calmly, pulling his wand out of its concealed location at his hip. "Finite Incantatum."
"That's really a spell you should get used to if you're going to survive the next few years. There are many worse tricks than the one they used." Flash normally wasn't one to insert his own opinion, but he couldn't help it in this situation. For as distressed as the boy had become in comparison to how simple the solution to the problem was, he likely needed the advice.

Waving the wand up twice and down and around in a precise shape, a red light would absolve his hair of the afflicting shade. As he did so, he felt like he must have recognized the boy from somewhere, though it could be that he was a Slytherin. He looked at least Flash's age, which made Flash's mouth quirk. Certainly he had already learned the general counter-spell in Professor Pendrast's class.Wisdom check

It was hard to decide what made his day worse, the fact that he was going to live his entire life with bright pink hair or the fact that that had been fixed by a student that looked just about as old as him, with a spell he knew already, it was a simple one, yet for some reason, his brain stopped working and he had completely forgotten that he knew how to do magic. As if this wasn't bad enough, the person even went far enough to tell him to try and remember it.
Noah wasn't quite used to the idea of using most of his spells outside of his academics, he got by just fine with a handful of spells, his life was hardly that eventful but that meant he struggled hard during times like these. It wasn't something he thought about often, maybe he hadn't even noticed it before but he realised he did fall short in terms of his practical magical abilities in a lot of cases, he wasn't necessarily bad at it but he definitely didn't practise it enough. To have someone do something so utterly simple for him when he could've just done it himself, it made his mood worse, not to consider the fact that he was already feeling horrible a few moments ago.
He muttered a half-hearted thanks, he felt a little bad right after he did but he was not in the mood to try and be nice, he knew the person had helped him but for some reason, he also wished he hadn't done it at all.
"I'll never understand how they ever think of anything like this as fun." He said with the distaste in his voice fairly evident. If he didn't know any better, he'd be running after them trying to get back at them. But he wasn't that stupid, he knew he would get jinxed or something and end up regretting it so he decided to instead stand there bathing in his own fury and thinking about everything wrong with the world.

Though he recieved a thanks, it was one dripping with latent disdain. It could have been worse, at least he wasn't so pompously proud as to tell him off. Some people handled adversity better than others, that much was clear.
He put his wand away again, as he figured that would be the end of it-- a minor kind gesture that had hardly put him out. Bellowed amoungst other grumbles however, was a continued conversation. Flash had more classes ahead of him before the weekend really started, but it wouldn't be for a while yet. He didn't mind the diversion, and it took very little coaxing for Flash to mount his soapbox on such a topic. It was one he happened to have many strong opinions on.
"Magic is a bit too powerful, isnt it? Everyone fights for power anyway, yet with magic you hardly need anything to exert it." Flash's face was also bothered. There was a reason he carried treacle fudge everywhere he went, he dreaded the day that someone decided to curse him. "Even if you do nothing wrong, you could become the victim of a powerful curse. Muggles don't have to deal with that."
A small sigh escaped him, as he thought about how badly his sister had wanted to be magical like the rest of the family. Wasn't it only because being without magic in the magical world made her so vulnerable? It was the reason he studied so hard, the reason he had been religeously practicing his spellcasting. Without it, he would be a sitting duck, and there was nothing he loathed more than powerlessness.
"I didn't really understand it at first, but I had to learn it all anyway. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to defend myself from even the smallest attack." Flash caught sight of himself in the mirror nearby, wondering why he was sharing so much. "Feels a bit demoralizing, if I'm being honest. No matter how good I get, I can always be overpowered. That's magic. It's unfair."

Noah wasn't sure how what he said was related to the reply he got. Well, maybe vaguely but that wasn't exactly what he was talking about, regardless it didn't take long for Noah to actually get invested in what he was talking about. It got his brain thinking about stuff he hadn't quite gotten around to thinking about often. He had given a little bit of thought but quickly moved on from it, regarding it as a topic of no real merit, but now he had an excuse to think about it further.
Noah didn't say anything during his rant, he just quietly listened, giving no signs as to whether he was even listening but he was hard at work trying to think about what was being said, to him it kind of felt obvious what the answer was, especially right after what he had just witnessed a few moments ago. Once he was done, he took a deep breath and tried to find words to explain his point.
"If someone else could do something to you, you'd have a way to fight back though right? The only reason you get there is because you have magic too, I'm not stuck with pink hair, there's a counter curse to fix that so it isn't really unfair against you. Although..." His voice trailed off for a bit, this was the bit he wasn't particularly happy about admitting it but there was one thing he couldn't quite find a good counter to. "Although I suppose there will be someone better than you no matter what." He thought back to the fact that it was his incompetence that meant he ended up in that embarrassing situation in the first place. Had it been someone stronger, they wouldn't have panicked and maybe even taken care of the people who had done it. But he wasn't quite sure who to blame that on, it wasn't really his fault either he wasn't good at magic, unfair was all it was.

After his outburst of a diatribe, he felt like he had ought to apologize, but it seemed the other boy was prepared to humor him. Flash listened to his response, though he wasn't certain they were really on the same page. It was no wonder, they were complete strangers as far as he could tell, it was hard to discern intention behind anything when you didn't know someone. Flash was normally meticulous about only talking to people in the way they wanted to be talked to, but the situation had reminded him of a great deal of bitterness he normally kept to himself. He had been the victim of Amorentia in this same bathroom, and fallen in love with a piece of jewelry. Humiliating. That wasn't all-- he had been branded and made to fight by magic, seen his friends suffer under blood curses, and who knew what he would have to face next. All he knew was that he could never be prepared for all of it, which scared him.
"Yes. It's not even only that, though." Encouraged by the continued talk, Flash pushed forward, the feeling of getting to rant a bit more satisfying than he realized. "You can't expect anyone to use their magic responsibly. People can be so cruel. Some dark magic is... horrifying, really. No one should be able to do those kinds of things. I almost wish magic wasn't real."
Flash would realize at that point that he had forgotten his manners, visibly admonishing himself with a small smack to the forehead.
"I'm sorry, my name is Flash. I didn't intend to bombard you with all my inane thoughts."

Noah sighed, it was the same thing again, magic fights magic, simple. Although he could also understand a little bit why he would say something like that. Despite what he had already said, he too knew that some people simply were way stronger than others. Besides, dark magic. That word was what made him lose any wish to argue his point. Not everyone would use dark magic, that definitely gives certain people more power over others. He felt like there was some way to counter his point but he needed more time to think about what exactly that would be, it was probably not the best idea to speak things without actually understanding the topic properly himself.
His train of thoughts was slightly interrupted by the sudden introduction, he wasn't expecting that, nor was he hoping for it, it simply served as a way to put an awkward stop to the conversation that they were having.
"Noah Page, and that's alright." He said, trying not to make his introduction too long, besides he wasn't even sure why he was discussing this with him to begin with so it was quite possible that the other person didn't quite know why they said it either. "And I really don't know. On one hand both of us having access to magic does make it seem a bit better but at the same time..." He sighed, not quite sure how to word his ponit, "Well, the difference in skill, I guess? The way you can so easily overpower someone does scare me sometimes. Magic is powerful and helpful but that means it's also really dangerous."

Flash could tell he had practically been sitting there talking to himself, he wasn't even sure why the other boy felt like responding at all, since he seemed to have no horse in the race. Had he only ever felt obligated to because Flash had reversed that minor charm? He would have preferred to not be placated, but he supposed it couldn't be helped. What had started as simple advice should have just stayed with him, this 'Noah' didn't seem like he had faced much adversity in his life. The idea of it made him feel bitterly jealous. He should have known better than to start talking about his feelings, they weren't relatable. Not that he intended on stretching this encounter past its welcome, but there was one thing he was morbidly curious about.
"Mmhmm." Flash said, his expression becoming a bit detached. "We do both have magic."
Flash pulled out his wand again, but this time quicker, and pointed directly at Noah's chest. He had never drawn on a peer before, not even for a friendly duel, yet he wouldn't look in any way hesitant.
"What would you do if I attacked you right now? What spell would you use?" Flash's mouth would be a line, no humor in it. "Or are you just hoping someone else will always be around to help you?"

Noah was pretty much lost in thought, he had completely forgotten he was having a random conversation with a stranger, right now his brain was racing trying to come up with answers to questions he had, hell at this point he had forgotten the other person was a person, it felt more like one of those voices in his head now. Fortunately for Noah, the person had clear intentions of reminding Noah about his person-like capabilities.
If the shock he had felt earlier was bad, then this was...... very bad...
...Anyway so then he tried his best to... well do anything at all. The absolute panic that rushed through his body as someone out of nowhere turned so hostile towards him had thrown him into a state of "what." As of that moment, his brain was incapable of so much as processing a single thought and it was filled with the whats, hows, whys, and other question words. It took him a few seconds but he finally managed to process the question that was asked and some understanding of the situation sunk into his head but it still screamed "run" at him.
His brain quickly went through the spells he could've used in that situation. It was weird but he couldn't quite remember that many, his brain was deteriorating or something, it simply wasn't functioning. He had felt something similar a few times before, but very, very few. Not enough for him to remember the vivid detail of the terror. Of course this wasn't the worst he had felt but in the moment it definitely felt like it.
"E-Experlliarmus?" He said, not intending to cast it but simply inform Flash about his next possible move. Although he had no idea if he could've done it if he had to, it was hard enough to get it right in the classroom where there was no real danger. Right now, it was much, much worse, there was simply no time to think (or so he felt anyway.) There was so much pressure that it was hard to even think straight, casting a spell he hadn’t even been particularly good at... Probably wouldn’t work.. He gulped, hoping this, whatever this was, wasn’t going to last too long. He wanted nothing more than to leave the area and be as far away from the person in front of him.

For a moment, there was a wicked sense of enjoyment, watching Noah squirm in fear. For this small moment in time, Flash was more powerful than his opponent, more prepared and quick-witted. It was a feeling he had far too infrequently. Then again, he felt no real urge to exercise this power, as absolutely pointless as it was. Causing pain and suffering was a fruitless endeavor, unproductive. The last thing he needed was another person who wanted to corner him or ambush him. Still, his overall intention to not follow through would not prevent him from feeling a sick sense of satisfaction.
"Yes. That's a good one." Flash said tersely, encased in a sigh.
Putting his wand away again, he turned back to one of the mirrors to finish fixing his appearance. He was in a bit of a better mood now, though it would only be a matter of time before he felt ashamed of it. His bouts of reactionary violence had only gotten worse. If Noah had made any move at all to actually retaliate, he likely would have thrown the worse curse he knew. He was glad that was avoided, though he wished he could say it was because of his own self-control, and not the fact that Noah was not a threat.
"Finite Incantatum, Expelliarmus. Remember them quicker next time." Flash summarized briefly, though he doubted he'd be making a profound, lasting impression on the stranger. "Good luck."
With that, Flash would leave without another glance in Noah's direction.
