Hiya, I’m Rory!
I know I sound a bit odd. “Isn’t Rory a boy’s name?” Not on me, it’s not. Deal with it.

Now that’s out of the way, I come from a mixed family, both racially and magically. My dad was raised in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull until he was eleven, then he got whisked away to Hogwarts. My mum’s a second is a second generation immigrant from Zimbabwe, and has the most insane cooking skills, that’s real magic.

I get my hair and eyes from my mum. Dark brown, my dad says it’s like looking into pools of melted chocolate. My brother says it’s like looking at dark mud (he’s six, he doesn’t mean it). I get my build from my dad, like I’ve been stretched in the wash. I’m four foot ten, but built like a twig. My necklace was a gift from my grandmother, made from wooden beads from the tree in her garden. “So you can always have a piece of me” she said.

I should give you fair warning, my personality’s not for everyone. I talk a lot, my sense of humour is very sarcastic, and I have a really loud laugh. You have been warned. But if you think you can deal with that, great! I’m a good listener, and am great at giving advice, just don’t ask me for advice about taxes or anything, I’m only eleven, for goodness sake! I also get very passionate about things, like LGBTQ+ rights, fantasy books, or the fact that being minister for magic is overrated (do not fight me, you will loose).

Pre Hogwarts, my life was pretty normal. I grew up in Edinburgh with my mum, dad, and wee brother, Lachlan. I went to Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce (the Gaelic primary school on Bonnington Road), so I’m kinda bilingual, actually. Never realised that before. Hmm. I had some friends but we weren’t super close. I wouldn’t bring them on a trip in the summer or anything. My only proper friend like that was my cousin Greer. She was only a year older than me, and was my absolute best friend. Her dad is my mum’s brother, so she was probably never gonna come to Hogwarts. But she loves high school, so I don’t think she’s too upset.

So, my first instance of magic. I was ten at the time, and my cat’s favourite toy was on the table, out of her reach. I was just getting up to get it for her, when I heard her screech. She was floating, just in line with the table. My dad had heard her yowl, came running in, saw the airborne cat, and just hugged me so tight I thought he was gonna break my rib! So yeah, floating cat was my first instance of magic.

So that’s me, Rory Henderson. Loud, proud, and exited to be going to the Wizarding School.
