Astrid Lindt looks just like her father and big sister, Anna. Beyond both of their brown hairy messes, Astrid's been told she looks boyish her whole life. She doesn't really agree and feels rather as if that's a weird thing to a girl who looks like a girl. Astrid has a habit of losing her thread of thought in the middle of paragraphs.
Despite looking so much like their dad, Astrid's recently learnt of something else she's inherited, but from her mother. Since neither Astrid nor her sister can remember when their mom was part of the picture, and since Anna hasn't got any magic at all (save her extreme lack of internal chaos), this whole witch thing wasn't really known about. Her father's memories of his ex-wife made a lot more sense once he had read the Hogwarts acceptance letter.
Anna slept in Astrid's room the night they'd found out. It'd be lonely and boring at home without her sister but she looked forward to coming with to this diagonal alleyway(?) to buy all of the books she could afford on her sister's new world. Anna told Astrid of the first time she noticed there was something weird ("I'm not weird!") about her; "It was on my 11th birthday, when you were 7, you and I never seemed to run out of cake. It just kept refilling itself somehow!" Anna laughed. Typical, Astrid had thought, that her first known instance of accidental magic was chocolate. She and Anna loved chocolate, and Astrid loved her sister.
That night Anna and her tried recreating the "cake spell" as she had called it. They loved to bake cakes and biscuits and muffins and often stayed up and baked and ate it as quietly as they could so they wouldn't wake their dad up. Of course, he woke up anyway as they started the mixer. By then it would be too late and he'd join them and make hot cocoa to go with it all. When the three stood there, cake ready, Astrid pointed dramatically at the table and yelled out: "DUPLICATE". It did not work.
Astrid had loved growing up in South Belfast. The three of them in that flat was all the world Astrid needed. She was however well aware that there was a world outside of Belfast that she couldn't learn enough about. Switching out her boring school with a castle in Scotland seemed like an opportunity in itself. The fact there'd be magic was even more unbelievable. Astrid was great at school when it was a fun subject and the book title "The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection" on the supply list boded very well. What is grammar compared to fantastic beasts and magical theory? Well, Astrid would probably put grammar at the bottom right above math either way.
Before this Astrid mostly spent time with her sister and a couple of classmates during breaks. She would read or watch movies, at most go to the park on Sundays. After eleven calm years, Astrid was preparing to put herself out there and find out who she is.
