Biography:
Before Hogwarts, Maddie grew up in London with her mother and older half-brother, Emilia Lock and Warren Lock, who are both muggles. She never really knew her father until she was 8 . He came back from whatever 'work trip' her mother told her he was on and they've lived together since. Maddies relationship with her mother is very good. Her mother supports her and she is like a good friend to her. They go shopping together and travel together. She loves her mothers side of the family. Her grandmother, Merida, is so sweet and they have a stunning house in Bath. Maddie and Warren were connected ever since birth. Since they have a single mom, things weren't always so easy. Warren would step up and help raise Maddie. Maddie sees him as her real brother, not a half brother since they are so close. They were each others best friend. Maddie isn't that close to her father, Victor Van Dijk, since he showed up so late in her life. She's never met any of his family either, she doesn't even know if they're alive. She resents him a little for it, but she knows that he had to tend to his duties in the wizarding world. They are polite but they never do excursions alone with each other. She doesn't understand how her mother was so forgiving with him, he missed out on 8 years of her life, and they don't ever talk about it. Whenever Maddie tries to reason with her mother, she gets mad. Maddie was hidden from the wizarding world as she grew up with her mother, but after her father came back and she had her First Instance of Magic they told her everything. Sometimes it's still hard to believe because its so extraordinary, seeing dishes being done with magic or healing cuts with a swish of a wand. When she was 9, she and her brother were sent out to the store late at night because their father wanted some bacon for tomorrow morning, him and her mother were too busy with each other to do it themselves. They ventured off into the night and stopped at a Tesco to pick it up. She wandered the empty store for the bacon while her brother who was 17 at the time looked at the beer area, she found it at the back of the store in the freezer area. As she was looking through which looked best she heard shouting from the front of the store. She ignored it but it grew louder and angrier, she listened to what it said and it was robbers. Her curiosity and fear got the better of her. She looked for her brother but he was no where to be seen. She sneaked up to the front of the store behind a shelving area and peered around it. Warren was getting pressed by the robbers. There were two of them, one holding Warren tightly by the front of his hoodie and one holding a knife behind the first one. They were threatening him, Warren was holding a bottle of wine he was thinking about buying. Warren was insisting that he wasn't looking for trouble but the robbers continued. She wanted to go out and help but she couldn't, she was frozen in her spot of fear for her brother. When the robber holding his hoodie turned his head, Warren brought up the wine bottle and smashed it on his head, knocking him out. This was when Maddie started to have hope they were going to make it home safe. But as Warren stumbled back the second robber noticed and swung his knife at him, slicing his throat. Warren stumbled back and fell, right in Maddies aisle while she hid. She covered her mouth to not make a sound as she stared at her brother gurgling on his own blood and staring at her. On the floor, Warren wanted to say goodbye. He reached his hand out slowly to her and tried to smile despite the pain. Maddie's eyes filled with tears as she took in the gory image in front of her. As she stumbled back to get away, the robber finished it off by stabbing him in the chest. She his behind a freezer, waiting for the robber to grab his partner and leave. Once they left, she scrambled out and mourned her brother. She walked home in silence as she cried, her parents were asleep as she arrived. The next morning she claimed she didn't know when her parents asked her. He was reported missing and was 'never found'. Maddie knew the truth though, but she would never tell anyone about what she saw. To this day, she never stays that late out at night or talk about her brother. She went to a public primary school because when her mother was alone they struggled a bit. But now that her fathers back their whole life changed. Their small townhouse became a beautiful standalone house, shopping at thrift stores turned into shopping at Dior and Chanel. Her life has gone through some big changes. She has a lot of friends, as mentioned before she is very social and makes friends easily. She is constantly surrounded by friends or people in school.

First Instance Of Magic:
Maddie was 8 when it happened, 3 months after her father returned. They had already moved into the new house. Maddie was overwhelmed by all this sudden change, and how normal it was for her mother. She fell asleep one night particularly stressed about all the change, when she woke up she didn't look in the mirror, she just headed downstairs for breakfast like normal. When she sat at the table her mother turned around and yelled. She was scared of what could make her mother act this way, her father rushed into the room to see what had happened. He smiled finally when he looked at Maddie, that was one of the only times he hugged her. She then looked in the mirror her mother handed her, her hair was bright pink. Maddie was horrified, how did this happen and how would she fix it? Eventually by the end of the day it disappeared by growing more faint throughout the day. But that was her first instance of magic.
