Physical Description: Maira has dark hair and a friendly face. She is a little short for her age, standing at 'only' 135 centimeters - whereas her younger brother (8 years of age) has already reached 138 centimeters. However, she is very nimble and loves to go outside to play with friends.
Biography: Maira has a Scottish half-blood wizard father named Joseph and a Spanish half-blood witch mother named Isabella. Her parents met when they were both on a holiday and research trip in Rome, Italy. Joseph may have been on the holiday simply because he needed a nice trip and wanted to learn a few things about wizarding artifacts in one of the oldest cities in the world, but Isabella was there as a researcher looking into her next big discovery for a wizarding paper of note in Europe. Over stories of the ancient city they connected - mostly because Joseph thought this brilliant woman was the most fascinating person he’d ever met - and stayed in touch after the trip. A true relationship developed from there.Mental Description: Maira is a happy girl, with a fascination for history and people's stories.
Upon visiting Edinburgh for the first time, Joseph’s hometown, Isabella knew for certain that she would leave behind her small town in southern Spain. The city felt more magical than anything she’d experienced before. Her parents understood that she wanted to feel closer to her magical heritage from her mother’s side of the family and would have more opportunities from Scotland than their own region. Especially since Hogwarts was there and this provided Isabella with a larger library if she could gain access to it for research purposes occasionally.
After two and a half years of living in Edinburgh, Isabella got pregnant with Maira. The girl was born in June on the 22nd of 2014, very healthy and with a good pair of lungs. For the first few years, she was the apple of her parent’s eye and as their still only daughter, she remains one of their best creations. Though she does have to share that position with her younger brother, Dougal, named after her grandfather on her father’s side. Dougal is 3 years younger than Maira.
The little girl was a very friendly person, with a fascination for history and how the world works. She very much takes after her mother, always wanting to read when a book is around, but also wanting to talk to anyone who might know more. Her father’s kindness is also very much present in her character. She has dark hair, and likes to keep it long enough to be able to put it away in a bun but not so long that it becomes a chore. Her nickname is “May”, as she is called by her grandparents and her parents whenever they need a shortened version.
For the first ten years, she went to a regular school and made a bunch of friends. However, due to her mother in particular having a bit of a fascination with anything magical - her friends were always slightly scared of her mum (even though Isabella always did try to bribe them with homemade cookies and never actually showed any appearance of magic in their vicinity). Maira didn’t have a problem with her friends’ small fears of the weird ingredients to be found in her home, as she was very fond of discovering what other people’s neighborhoods looked like and preferred spending time near Edinburgh’s city centre anyway when she was slightly older (8 years+).
During the holidays Maira and her family would often visit Spain, to see her grandparents and family on that side of the family. They lived in a coastal town in the south, and so she would spend many a day on the beaches or the water of the Mediterranean sea. At nights, even though the town itself didn’t have a lot of magic, she felt as if she was in a magical world. Everyone would be out on the streets, neighbors would walk in and out of their home with food. And all the kids were available to play along, even if her Spanish was slightly less easy to understand due to the Scottish accent.
First Instance of Magic: Joseph’s father, a wizard, was delighted when very early on - around the age of 3 - Maira showed her first signs of magical abilities when her favourite teddy bear nearly fell of a ledge and Maira managed to catch it before it hit the floor, even though she was too far away to reach the bear in time without using magic. Clearly, the little girl did not realise that the bear would leave the scene unscathed and at the time she did not understand fully just why her grandfather was so excited for her accidental save.
