Betony was born to a typical muggle family in London, England. She had a mother and a father who loved her, as well as a baby brother she adored. That much she could remember from when she was five years old. At five years old, she had a spot of accidental magic that frightened her parents so terribly that they gave her up for adoption, fearing the safety of themselves and their newborn son.
It is Hitcher's Home for Girls where she has lived for the past six years. It is a decent home that is funded by the community of Framlingham in Suffolk.
Miss Selwyn is noted to be rather shy and quiet. She is most often found outside in the playgrounds, observing the world around her or reading. There have been incidences of bullying which were promptly handled by staff as well as the strange powers she possessed.
Though she does not cause trouble, the staff do agree that she is odd and keep an eye out on her. Some agree that she is one of the more pleasant students that they've worked with, yet there has not been any potential parents who have decided upon her as of yet, those who have spent time with her out of hope of finding a new child, often walked away explaining to the staff she was just a bit too quiet and off-putting for a child.
