History
When Elias was brought into this world, his mother had no inkling of what she was getting herself into. She herself, a young, kind and sweet lady by the name of Mirabelle, was merely a muggle born in the city of Belfast, raised by an alcoholic dad and absentee mother. Elias' father meanwhile was a squib, not that he was aware. His pure-blood family had passed him off to the adoption system in London once his status was discovered, and as such he had lived an average, if tumultuous life. Elias was the result of a whirlwind romance between this squib and Mirabelle when the man had been on a brief trip to Ireland. It had ended quickly without ill-will on either end, they had both known what kind of relationship they had entered into when it began, and so they parted ways. Only it turns out Mirabelle had been left with more than just passing memories. When the twenty-year old discovered she was with child she was distraught, but she did not reach out to the father. Her own childhood had been due to a similar occurrence, her father had been forced to care for a child he did not want and pushed into a relationship with a woman he felt nothing for. So Mirabelle remained quiet and chose to raise Elias on her lonesome.
While it was tough raising him, the pair made do. Mirabelle had just about finished her university degree by the time Elias came and acquired herself a modest job as a journalist. It was a struggle sometimes but for a child Elias was quiet, and he matured quickly, attempting to help his mother in whatever way he could and lessen the strain on her. And so they managed. But life threw another problem their way, and this time it was in the form of Elias' developing magic. Of course small things, in-explainable things, had been happening ever since Elias was a mere two years old. A cookie jar falling off the fridge, toys dancing, one time Mirabelle even woke up to find all the lights in the house turned on, during a time when Elias had been afraid of the dark. Every time one of these occurrences happened the stressed and exhausted mother simply called it a figment of her imagination or a coincidence. However these occurrences became too large and obvious to ignore by the time Elias was seven years, even he had become aware things happened when he became angry, or scared, and he'd tried to suppress his own emotions in response, but he was still a child. Mirabelle, worried and even a little scared, sought out help. There were many, many dead ends. From satanists to hedge witches, everyone claimed they knew what her son was, however it took over a year of careful searching before she found the answer. A young wizard had heard her talking and recognised the signs of a budding muggle-born. Taking her aside, he did some careful probing to be certain before revealing his own abilities and her sons status. Shocked but relieved at finally discovering the truth, and finally equipped with the information to deal with it, Mirabelle threw herself into the task of learning more about the wizarding world. The young manhad told her of Hogwarts and the invitation her son should receive but Mirabelle was determined to make sure he was prepared for the transition. So from then on, although unable to provide examples, the young mother tried her best to teach Elias the basics of magic and the common knowledge he would be expected to know. A young scholar in the making, the muggle-born flourished and picked up the information easily, although the actual magic proved to be more tricky.
Life continued on like this for the following three years, until it was only set to be mere months before Elias received his invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, like always, life threw yet another bump in the road, only this one was life-threatening. Mirabelle was sweet and kind, but she wasn't without her many faults, and during the one of the more stressful points in her life she had picked up smoking. And now that decision had come back to haunt her. Following a variety of extended symptoms such as continued coughing and weakness, Mirabelle went in for a check-up, where it was discovered she had lung cancer. It was very early onset, but it was still aggressive. The mother of one was distraught, but more for her son, and it was for him she cried. Once she broke the news to Elias, he became dead set on staying to help her through the trials and tribulations of chemotherapy. However Mirabelle knew that now it was more important than ever that Elias went to Hogwarts, for if she died he would have no one, and he would be forced into a care-home. So she spent the next months convincing her child that she was alright for now, and that if he became a wizard he could come back and heal her (she was unsure of this information, but it did the trick), so by the time the letter arrived Elias was ready to take the offer, if reluctant.
At this time Elias has just arrived at Hogwarts after a long, and teary goodbye to his mother at Platform 93/4, filled with a new determination and burning curiosity.
Personality
Elias has always been quite mature. As a young child he was eager to help his mother, and attempted to act much older than his age to lessen any burden. Another result of this was that he is quite quiet, not in a way that he has nothing to say, but in that he's always thinking, and will only speak when its necessary. To some this may make him seem cold and aloof, but he is really not. An insatiable curiosity also runs in his veins, alongside ambition, this is partly due to his mothers condition but also partly because of his upbringing. His mother was ambition herself, with many plans that were interrupted and eventually foiled by his arrival, something he feels guilty about and so feels the need to make up for with his own success to make her proud. He is also...not socially awkward but not adept at making friends. He never had many, but the few he did have were very close, he opened up to them and was unwavering loyal, and once he had them he never felt the need to make any more friends. Despite his age Elias is frighteningly logical, other than his friends and mother, everything is a means to an end. Although despite this you can find him making illogical connections and decisions, which he will reprimand himself for later due to a tendency to be highly critical of himself. All these traits make up key parts of Elias, and make him, well, him.
Appearance
Elias is, by all accounts, a very average looking boy. As to be expected when one live in such climates as these, his skin is pale, though it has warm undertones. His hair is a very dark brown, shot through with very subtle notes of lighter colour, and it sits atop his head in an unruly mess. It has a slight wave running through it and is maybe a tad long for Elias' preferred tastes, as it falls into his eyes regularly. Other than that his frame is one of a growing boy, very tall for his age at 5'3", lanky and barely filled out. Other than his height the only thing that stands out about him is a scar that runs along the top of his hand (a consequence of the afore-mentioned cookie jar incident) and his eyes. His eyes are a startling green, the colour of forests and moss, always twinkling and full of some soft emotion that Elias himself so rarely displays.
