Physical Description: Standing at a modest height of 5 feet and weighing around 35 kilograms, Calder cuts a lean yet active figure. Though thin, he radiates energy and stamina, moving with the agility of someone who is used to keeping on their feet. His most distinct feature is his black square glasses and his blonde hair, which give him a quirky and memorable appearance. The glasses rest comfortably on his face, identifying him in a crowd by a subtle but forceful fashion. Though he is small, Calder is anything but frail—his trim physique testifies to his perpetual activity, whether running, climbing, or merely racing around with restive energy.
Mental Description: Calder is a fundamentally warm, affectionate person, one who can effortlessly create connections with the people around him. His charm and kind nature tend to bring people to his side, and he finds it difficult to leave people out when he is the life of the party. He does, though, have his fiery moments—when he is teased, jeered, or mocked excessively, his temper flares quickly, betraying the fact that though he is kind, he is not a person to be provoked far. Nevertheless, Calder has a great sense of self-restraint in other aspects. He is careful not to form addictions, to objects, to habits, or even to distractions, and is seldom tempted. One exception exists, however: his sweet tooth. Calder has an irrepressible affection for sweets, a minor flaw that sometimes contradicts his otherwise controlled existence.
Biography: Calder is from a tight-knit and affectionate family. His family includes his father, mother, and maternal grandparents, all of whom have always loved him very much. They are just normal Muggles, with no previous exposure to the wizarding world—except for his mother, who is a Muggle-born witch and an avid fan of magical books and movies, and his father, who is also a Muggle-born wizard. His mother is a great admirer of the magical world and frequently comments upon her appreciation of Hogwarts.
Calder has developed in such an atmosphere of encouragement and gentle interest in magic, even though his family had never anticipated its inclusion in their actual lives. He can speak both Hindi and English fluently, even better than his family.
First Instance of Magic: Calder's initial experience with magic was both remarkable and disorganized. One afternoon, involuntarily, while swishing a toy car around, he accidentally made a teacup levitate almost two feet above the table. The fragile object hung in mid-air as if attached to invisible strings, as Calder stood by, his mind reeling in shock at what he had inadvertently created. For an instant, it was almost fantastical, something from the tales his mother loved. Alas, the magic of the moment was short-lived. His father entered the room, was shocked at the sight, and in his fright, slapped Calder hard to bring him around. The violent movement disrupted Calder's focus, and the teacup fell to the floor, shattering into innumerable tiny fragments. What had potentially been a moment of pride and (accidental) enchantment became, instead, an bewildering combination of fright, shock, and remorse—but it certainly signaled the start of Calder's path into the world of magic.
