Physical Description:

Zinnia is an 11-year-old girl who is 4’4” tall. She has medium brown hair, which she wears in two (often swinging) braids, and brown eyes. Her skin is relatively fair, and her cheeks often pick up a rosy hue due to exertion or weather exposure. She can most often be found wearing dungarees (overalls), which her mother usually has to repair with a quick spell when she arrives home from her daily adventures. Her hobbies include gardening and studying trains (often in a hands-on manner).

Mental Description:

Zinnia is a cheerful young girl who has spent most of her life running around the Welsh countryside having imaginary adventures in fantastical worlds of her own creation. She particularly enjoyed being a wilderness explorer, or a noble night on a quest to save someone from an enemy castle. While whimsical, she also has a a sharp mind for details involving plants and locomotive mechanics, and hopes to follow her father’s footsteps as a train mechanic by finding work at Platform 93/4. She is generally pleasant and optimistic, but has a stubborn, bullheaded streak that can rear its head when she comes across something that is (initially) too difficult for her.

Biography:

Zinnia is the only daughter of a Welsh witch and an English Muggle man. Her parents met at and fell in love in the London Transport Museum, when they both decided to indulge their curiosities and visit on a random day. Nowadays, her father, Nolan Glover, works as a train mechanic for a local sightseeing tour company. As a result, Zinnia has been on countless scenic rides through the Welsh countryside, much to her delight. Zinnia’s mother, Ariel Glover-neé-Hardbottle, is a graphic designer specializing in labels for commercial potions, and works from home.

Zinnia was homeschooled by her mother growing up, and took every opportunity she could to get her schoolwork done ahead of schedule so she could pend one day a week shadowing her father (or one of his coworkers) in and around the train yard where he worked. Her closest companion growing up was her cousin, Nathan Hardbottle, who is two years her junior. Though he usually resides some distance away in Cardiff, he would often stay with the Glovers for the summer as his parents traveled for business.

Fun Fact: Zinnia has an odd, lumpy, brownish-greyish stone she thinks is her lucky charm. She carries it everywhere she goes, and it can most often be found in the pocket of her dungarees.

First Instance of Magic:

As a toddler, Zinnia was digging in the dirt of the flowerbeds outside her home as her mother gardened nearby. Nearby but occupied, Zinnia’s mother left her child to her own devices. To entertain herself, the little girl changed the hue of the flowers’ petals to all manner of unnaturally bright colors, as well as added patterns like stripes, dots, and stars.Though rudimentary in its form, the event marked what would be the first of many fantastical adventures Zinnia would embark upon in the backyard of her home in the decade to come. Her pure imagination made manifest, it was a fitting mechanism for her inner magic to make itself actionable upon the wider world for the very first time. It also involved what would become a life-long passion for the girl; gardening. Having felt a certain kinship with flowers since the moment she understood the meaning behind her name, it was only fitting that Zinnia include them in her inaugural outburst of Accidental Magic. Interrupted from her serenity by an avalanche of joyous, youthful, giggles, Zinnia’s mother soon bore witness to the minor mischief her child had wrought. As an artist and a witch, her mother was extremely proud. Sentimental to her core, she saved one of the transfigured flowers and pressed it between the pages of her daughter’s baby book.
