Physical Description: One of a whole long string of McCoire children, Rigel is tall and slender. His hair is pale, almost silvery; and his eyes are a startling blue. He likes to keep his hair shortish and is not fond of fancy styles. Tastefully disheveled might be a good description! He favours dark coloured kilts, usually blue and dark cloak.

Mental Description: Rigel is quick witted and nimble. Whilst in school he favoured duelling, and practiced that art semi-professional for a few years. An avid reader, and perhaps taking his name seriously, found that his greatest loves at school were astrology and divination. A natural student, he read widely and applied himself to Ancient Runes and the History of Magic as well.

As some might perhaps guess, he is the older brother of a certain Hogwarts miscreant. The suggestion that he take up a position as a teacher as the most prestigious school of Wizardry in all Britain holds the mixed dread and delight of dealing with --- family!

Biography: Rigel's family, the McCoires, are a very large family of Purebloods. He has an older brother and sister, Orion and Andromeda; as well as a twin sister, Aoife. Before Hogwarts, they attended the small Altnaharra School where they learned all their early lessons. Including how tame their natural rivalry. They were ever at odds when they were kids and their rivalry lasted all through Hogwarts. Even so, it was a very unwise cousin or schoolmate who tried to play one off the other. Such a fool would find himself with two wands jammed into his face as the twins closed ranks!

Their motto growing up was Never Mess With Kin!

Rigel's younger sister, Moira, is really the last sibling he paid much attention to. There was a several year gap between her and what Rigel always thought of "that pack little brats".

Of course, upon hearing that Professor Starwise was planning to retire, his mother would have to suggest that he take employment at Hogwarts. An "advantageous position" she called it. Given that at least three of that pack of little brats were now at Hogwarts, plus some ancillary cousins, Rigel sees this transition as much a stint as a glorified baby sitter than as a way to engage in his passion for the stars.


First Instance of Magic: Rigel was four when his magic first made itself known. His older siblings, Orion and Andromeda, being five at the time, thought that it would be a grand idea to tease their little brother by bursting into the bathroom where he was practicing washing his hands before supper. He was certainly used to their pranks, but this one left its mark! Orion burst through the door first and kicked the nice wooden stool Rigel was standing on to reach the water taps.

He turned to holler at Orion when Andromeda burst in right behind him, with some black thing in her hand. It was a raven. And it was dead and flopped about in her hand and she screamed like a banshee! She threw it, feathers floating about in every direction and poor creature splattered right in Rigel's face!

Rigel hollered!

Aoife came running in!

Rigel had no idea what happened but just then the toilet bowl spewed its entire content of water all over Andromeda and Orion! The two older twins ran screeching from the bathroom! Aoife ran screeching from the bathroom! And poor Rigel crumpled onto the stool crying because he was certain he'd end up in trouble for the mess!
