Adeline Rose Donnet was born on June 5th, 2014, in a home bursting with mismatched rugs, quills without caps, and the occasional floating teacup. Her hair is an unruly nest of auburn curls, and her emerald eyes reflect mischief and wit.
Her father, Finnian, a brilliant but perpetually ink-splattered Muggle novelist, turned everyday moments into grand adventures. Her mother, Jeanette, was the polar opposite, as she was composed and a stickler for detail at the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. Their love thrived in contrast. So did Adeline.
Adeline is equal parts troublemaker and thinker. She keeps a secret notebook tucked into her sock, where she jots wild ideas; spells she invented (untested), creature sightings (probably squirrels and bats), and story-like analysis’s of life around her (the way her mother flicked her wand when summoning the big stewpot; how Cormac, her younger brother, sometimes turned toad-green when he really wanted something; how her father lay slumped in his armchair after long hours of ideation and monologuing with himself; they all became snippets of stories for her.)
She led neighbourhood expeditions to “forbidden zones” (read: the overgrown garden) with the other children, where she created myths on the spot, giving every stick a name and every shadow a story.
Her very best friend, aside from her brother, was a girl, Avery, of her mothers’ friend. Adeline and Avery were nearly inseparable all through both their early childhoods, and still love spending time together whenever the chance arrives. Avery and her family moved overseas to the US before either girl could start their magical education, where she now attends Ilvermorny.
Her first burst of magic came in dramatic form at age 5. Furious with her brother for tearing a page from her best story, she screamed, and the pillows in all the bedrooms in the house exploded in feathers, raining down in heaps. “That’s new,” her father muttered. Her mother’s eyes were narrowed and proud.
