Physical Description:
Alemayehu is a bit shorter than the average twelve year old boy, only just below 5 feet. He has brown skin, short dark brown hair and bushy eyebrows. There is mostly a big smile on his face, showing his rather white teeth. He wears the typical white school clothes but either in plain white or with all the colors of all the african flags since he does not see himself belonging to a specific country or tribe but either to all of them or to none in particular.
Mental Description:
Despite his rather ordinary look, Alemayehu is a kid full of facets. The traveling with his parents has made him an open-minded person. He likes to get to know new people, their culture, language and customs. He can listen carefully to other people, is attentive and interested in their stories. He is also curious about the world and sees the positive in many things, however, he is also easily distracted by yet another thing to learn.
Even though he might seem extroverted, he is actually introverted, drawing his energy from moments with himself. He does not want to be the center of attention and if he is, he might turn shy and insecure. In all his conversations, he tries to make it about the other person. Listening so much to others and taking in their stories and ways, he lacks creativity himself. He likes to learn about everything but is unsure when he has to create something himself. It could not be good enough compared to all the other stories.
Biography:
Birth & Name: Alemayehu was born on 31st December 2010 in London. He was given the names Alemayehu Ngeni. Alemayehu means I have seen the world as his parents were already planning to continue traveling the world. Ngeni means stranger because he had been born away from the home countries and continent of his parents. His father, Tamrat Bekele, had been there for an important meeting of his department in the ministry of magic. His mother, Neema Bekele, didn't want to stay without her husband during the time before his birth, so she had accompanied him.
His parents: Tamrat is Ethiopian but had moved to England with his parents when he was little and thus, had attended Hogwarts. Always wanting to go back to Africa, he accepted a job offer from the ministry to become a researcher of magical items around the world, mostly in Africa.
Neema is from Uganda and a healer. Her mother had died when she was born and so she had learned most of what she knows from her grandmother. Only when she turned 15 and her grandmother had died as well, she went to Uagadou to continue her studies. There she also learned for the first time about all the other magical subjects that exist and are taught. She had admired her grandma, however felt a sting of envy towards the other children, who had learned so much more. She was determined to send her child to a school as well and teach him at home what she knows and they didn't teach, so that he would not miss out.
His life: For Alemayehu, learning had started when he was born and continued along all his life. Alemayehu was traveling across the world with his parents until he turned ten years old. They would always move to the next location where his father needed to work and Alemayehu enjoyed it most of the times. They visited almost every african country and they lived in many different tribes.
While his father was gone for excavations and adventures, his mother took him with her. From her he learned a lot about healing, potions, plants, cooking, but she also made him read about the history and theory of magic and from the village people and other kids he learned all about the history of their tribes, their languages and cultures.
Alemayehu was eagerly trying to learn their languages, so that besides the languages of his parents (Swahili, Amharic and English) he learned a few words in Arabic, Hausa, Igbo, French, Afrikaans. He could not hold a full conversation in everything of course, but he likes to learn a few words here and there, listening to all the cultures and especially all the stories. Most of the people he has contact with are muggles since the wizards and witches are often not living among them. A few healers or conjurers might be among the small villages and tribes, but apart from that the only magic he has contact with is the healing skills of his mother
When his father came home, he told stories about ancient magical objects, packed full with made-up elements of surprise and suspense. He also told him about Hogwarts and Britain where he grew up as well as the rest of the world.
His father had also taught him how to fly a broom. As a family with a lot of things to carry with them, they could not have apparated safely. Brooms were the means of transport of his parent's choice. For carrying their household, they also had a carpet-trailer. His father had also once tried to explain Quidditch to Alemayehu but it did not spark any excitement in him. He loved to fly fast and around obstacles.
For his need of some alone-time as well as to study the books, he had his own tent (like other kids have their own room in a house). That was his and his alone to decorate, to spend time in and also to carry when they would move. Of course it was magical. From outside it looked like all the other tents or houses of the tribe or village they were staying in. Inside, however, it was spaceous and could even be extended if needed. The weight, however, did not shrink completely even though it was lighter than the real weight, it was still getting heavier the more things they collected.
First Instance of Magic:
He also remembers well the day he had known that he was a wizard and not only learning all about it. It was a day in June 2017. They were traveling towards their next destination. Alemayehu was just six years old but he had insisted to fly alone. It was late and they had travelled a long time and were almost there, flying lower already. Alemayehu was tired, so tired he barely could hold his eyes open. And then it happened. He fell asleep for only a second or two but it was enough to lose grip of the broom and fall down. When he felt the fall, he woke up and started screaming. His parents noticed too late and the few seconds they needed to act were too long, he already hit the ground.. and bounced back up. His father caught him with relief and took him on his broom for the rest of the way. That night, when they arrived they celebrated. That Alemayahu did not die and that he was indeed a wizard just like his parents.
On January 1st, 2021, Alemayehu woke up with a rough, black stone in his hand. It had some very thin, golden cracks running through. Engraved in the stone were the following words:
"Good night, dream tight, the past is the light. Good day, dreams stay, they show us the way. Remember what was left behind. You know what you must find!"
That day, he did not get the message and he was shocked to notice that he had also forgotten the dream of that night.
