Character Information

Physical

Tiberius looks how every Wrex boy looked at eleven years old; he has pale skin – even paler than most as he prefers to spend his days indoors - peppered with freckles, which he desperately hopes will someday fade. He has auburn hair cut relatively short, still longer than his father would like, which pairs perfectly with his dark blue eyes. He stands at 4’9” and is looking forward to becoming 6’ like the rest of the men in his family. Unlike everyone else in his family, Tiberius has poor eyesight and thus has to wear his black-rimmed, square spectacles. Tiberius dresses casually – too casually for a child from his kind of family. For him, putting on jeans rather than joggers means it must be a special event. He owns mostly plain coloured t-shirts and hoodies – preferring to fade into the background as much as possible.

History

Tiberius was born in the Scottish capital, into the wealthy pure-blooded Wrex family. He is the middle child of three siblings – between his fifteen-year-old brother Doremus and his three-year-old sister Eudora. Their parents have had a tumultuous relationship, with a full four-year separation starting when Tiberius was only two. His father, Gaius Wrex, is a high ranking official in the Scottish branch of the Ministry of Magic. His mother, Isla Wrex (née Glenroy), was a painter on her way to becoming famous before she fell pregnant with Doremus. Then, pushed by her husband, she gave up painting as a career. But she never lost her love for the art; all of the moving paintings of deceased family members were painted by her. It’s clear that she holds some resentment towards Gaius and blames him for her lack of career – it is a sore spot which often rears its head in their marriage. Isla and Gaius couldn’t be more different. They met while at Hogwarts, Gaius was a Slytherin and Isla a Ravenclaw. But she saw something special in him – at least she thought she did at the time.

Gaius was elated to have two boys; he was always concerned about the family legacy and was glad to have his ‘heir and a spare’ – with Tiberius being the spare. Despite being an absent husband, he was always a present father. Regardless, Tiberius always preferred his mother. He took up her love of history from a young age. He would read books to put her to sleep after her emotionally taxing days from as early as five years old. While Doremus was happy to go gallivanting with their father, Tiberius knew that their father’s love was conditional while their mother’s love was not.

Until his little sister was born, Tiberius was the youngest in the extended family. The Wrex family was very close, with the cousins being raised like siblings. Tiberius was always the black sheep, preferring to focus on academics and enjoying reading in his spare time while his brother and cousins would rather be outside playing quidditch or partaking in illegal underage magic: it’s amazing what you can get away with if your family is pure enough. His family assumed that he would be a squib like the family governess, Agnes Plimm. Meanwhile Doremus, who also hadn’t shown any sign of magic, was assumed to be a late bloomer.

When Doremus’ eleventh birthday came and went with no sign of magic, the family was devastated. He was the perfect son: athletic, handsome, and confident. Gaius tried to rationalise the situation but eventually had to come to terms with his worst fear: his favourite son was a squib. Showing just how conditional his love was, Gaius sent Doremus away to the west coast to live with his sister, Callista, who was also a squib. Then he turned his ‘affections’ to Tiberius.

Tiberius hated how easily his brother was cast away. He began sending letters to him. Even though he only received answers occasionally, that never stopped him. The letters became less of a correspondence and more of a diary after a while. He still writes to his brother to this day, although he hasn’t received a response in almost two years.

Once his father started seeing him as his last hope, Tiberius underwent rigorous training to become the same arrogant quidditch star his father was at Hogwarts. Gaius was a formidable Beater back in his day. The most he's managed to get from Tiberius is that he'll try out as a Chaser when the time comes.

Tiberius' first instance of magic was during a bout of uncharacteristic anger. His father was reading the newspaper while disparaging Doremus. At the time, Tiberius was ten years old and was also concerned that he might be a squib. He glared at his father as he talked about his brother. Then the newspaper began to smoke; slowly at first then it suddenly burst into flames. Gaius was so relieved that his son was a wizard he didn't even punish Tiberius.

Personality

Tiberius is a reserved boy, preferring to stay inside and read rather than play with his cousins. He has a great interest in academics, particularly the history of magic while he anticipates will be his favourite class when he gets to Hogwarts. He is ambitious and currently plans to work in the Ministry of Magic like his father. Despite their differences, Tiberius is very loyal to his family which is why he refused to stop contacting his brother when he was sent away. He is very caring and loves to look after his baby sister, reading to her and teaching her new things.
