Rose Lacina is a white, female half-blood from Waterford, Ireland, an area famous for its history in glass-making in Waterford Crystal, the city’s factory, which made glass from 1783 until early 2009, when it was shut down. It’s shutdown absolutely had nothing to do with magic, definitely not (*cough* it definitely did *cough*)
Rose grew up in her beloved home with her mother (a half-blood witch) and her many pets, including her 3 dogs, 2 owls, and a snake, all of whom she is very sad at having to leave behind to attend Hogwarts. Rose and her mother are very close, especially since Rose’s father (a muggleborn wizard) passed when Rose was very young.
Growing up in a single-parent household is not easy, but it has made Rose a very kind-hearted and hard-working individual who loves to help others. Her mother, being a healer, definitely helped out with those values as well. Rose also loves learning about both magical and non-magical creatures, often reading books about all sorts of creatures in her free time. Rose is not the most social, having one or two (human) friends before coming to Hogwarts, but does enjoy being with others, as long as she gets her time alone to decompress.
Since her father was a muggleborn, Rose’s mother aimed to give her the best of both the magical world and the muggle world, so Rose would know the world her father came from and grew up in before learning he was a wizard. Rose’s father loved to make art with a variety of muggle tools from the usual pencil to paints to markers, which were all passed down to Rose as part of showing her the world her father lived in.
Rose’s first instance of accidental magic, coming as no shock to her mother, was accidentally making a towel float to catch a pygmy puff that fell from her mother’s desk (that one of her patients had to place there while drinking a potion). Rose saw the little creature begin to fall, and her magic responded to her fear and panic, catching the creature before it could get hurt. From that day on, Rose’s love for creatures was very much apparent.
