Rhiannon Avery Jones was born in Dublin, Ireland on April 17th to a family with a long history of magic. Her mother, Sara, is a herbologist with a small shop selling magical plants in Ballycastle. Her father, Andrew, is an Obliviator for the Ministry of Magic. An only child, Rhiannon grew up spending much of her time in her mother's shop and greenhouse at home, avidly learning about herbology under the guidance of her mom. On her mother's busier days, Rhiannon's grandmother, Nora, a retired healer, watched after her.

Rhiannon is a spirited girl, much like her father, and while she is a rather joyous child, she does have the tendency to care so deeply and feel so passionately about things that it can cause her much strife. An example of this is when her childhood friend Jacob, the son of another shopkeeper in Ballycastle, was being taunted by a group of peers one day, she laid in bed that night crying, confused as to how people could be so mean. Among her interest in herbology, she also holds a strong fascination for astronomy and divination, and her longing to learn to play Quidditch knows no bounds.

Rhiannon has long red hair, brown eyes, and a face splattered with freckles. Her frame is fairly small for her age, weighing only 75 pounds, standing at four feet five inches.
