Physical Description:

Jade is relatively short for her age, standing just below the average height. Her skin is pale, and she is unusually petite. She has long brown hair, green eyes, and glasses. Despite it normally being messy and tangled, Jade keeps her hair down most of the time. She gets cold very easily. For clothing, Jade gravitates towards jeans, cozy sweaters, and scarves.

Personality:

Jade is extremely shy. She is generally nervous around people, and this is amplified in large groups - especially if she doesn’t know anybody. Sometimes, Jade can get very anxious about large gatherings. Because of this, she does her best to stay clear of large groups, instead preferring to interact with people in calmer, quieter settings. In a similar vein, Jade takes a long time to open up and trust other people. It can take months for her to feel comfortable enough around other people to hang out with them outside of school and talk about herself.

Jade is a very clever person, both inside and outside the classroom setting. She performed well in muggle school, always getting top grades / scores on assignments and tests. She can grasp new concepts quite easily, though she can always succeed in them right away. In general, Jade can adapt to new situations very quickly and is very flexible.

Similarly, Jade is a very ambitious person and hard worker. She applies this attitude to academic and personal areas of life. Jade is always trying to push forward, work harder, and accomplish her goals - of which she has many. However, most people don’t know this about her, because Jade tends to keep her head down and not draw attention to this fact.

Lastly, Jade is a very compassionate and loyal person once she gets to know somebody. She will stand by their side, no matter what goes down, help and protect them, and so on. Overall, she’s a very good friend to have.

Biography:

Jade was born to Jame and Alice O’Reilly in Dublin, where she has lived her entire life. Her extended family is quite small, just her grandparents on both sides, so Jade grew up knowing them very well. Her dad’s parents lived in Dublin, very close to where they lived, so Jade saw them often as a little girl. Her mom’s parents lived in London, so Jade rarely visited with them except on holidays.

Jade attended private school from a young age, and excelled in the environment there. She was an excellent student and all the teachers loved her. However, Jade kept to herself for the most part, avoiding interactions with other students. As a result, Jade didn’t have many friends for her first few years of school.

As she got older, Jade got more willing to approach her classmates - partially because she had been around them for a long time. When she was eight, Jade befriended a small handful of her classmates. Her friend group was tiny, but they were all very close. They hung out often, and quickly started telling each other everything. Her friends became her support system - something that would greatly benefit Jade in the years to come.

As for her family, Jade had a good relationship with her parents and grandparents. Her parents got along too, for the most part… until they didn’t. When Jade was ten, her parents began to have frequent arguments over the most minor of things. This really scared Jade, causing her to get stressed and not do as well in school. Still, she kept a hold of the belief that her parents would work things out - even though it seemed unlikely.

But when Jade performed accidental magic, and things began to fall apart. After she performed her first act of accidental magic (details below), her parents freaked out - especially her mom. While her dad tried to be helpful and figure out what was going on, her mom acted as if Jade had done something horribly wrong. For her mom, Jade performing magic was the last straw, that led to her parents divorcing.

Jade’s mom moved away, leaving Jade and her father in Dublin. Jade was understandably very upset by her parent’s decision, and blamed herself for the divorce because her accidental usage of magic was what caused her mom to finally leave. She started having therapy sessions at a friend’s suggestion, but she couldn’t work through all of it because magic was involved. Overall, Jade was very distraught and out of sorts over this.

So, when she turned eleven and a Hogwarts representative showed up to explain the situation to her, Jade’s father encouraged her to go. Jade was freaked out at first, of course - it’s not every day you find out you’re a witch. But eventually, after talking it over with her father and the Hogwarts representative, Jade decided to give it a try. It would give her a chance to get a fresh start, make new friends, and explore her new magical abilities.

So here she is!

First Instance of Magic:

Jade’s first instance of magic happened when she was 10, during the time leading up to her parent’s divorce. Jade was working on a particularly tricky homework assignment involving a book she had to read for school, and went to her parents for help. Her parents had different ideas of how best help her, and got into a big fight over it. This frustrated Jade so much she burst into tears - and lit the book on fire magically.

Everyone was very freaked out about the whole thing, but her dad responded better than her mom. Jade’s dad helped control the situation (read: put out the fire) and calm Jade down, and advised her not to tell anyone about what had happened. Jade’s mom absolutely freaked out, acted like Jade had done something terribly wrong, and lashed out at her. She wouldn’t listen to Jade when she tried to say that she didn’t know what had happened.

That was the final straw for her mom, and led to her parents getting divorced. Because of that, Jade blames herself for the divorce.
