Physical Description:
Astrid is relatively tall for her age, standing at 149 cm tall. Her hair is cut short, barely reaching her neck, and her blue eyes stand out against her light, freckled visage. Her height and pale complexion are clear indicators of her Scandinavian heritage.
Her arms and legs are awkwardly proportioned, but mostly because of her age and the development that comes with it.
Astrid is soft-spoken, speaking with precision and no trace of an accent. Her speech is clear, as if pulled straight from a textbook.
Mental Description:
Astrid is very ambitious. Her ultimate dream is to prove herself worthy of the Nereim name, in whatever way she can. She sees her parents as lovable people who came short of what the family name deserves, so, while she respects them as people, she doesn't look up to them professionally.
Astrid always goes out of her way to prove herself. If there's a chance to do something to prove that she's smart, fast, or strong, she'll take it.
While sometimes, her bravery and lack of foresight causes trouble, she isn't always quick to jump the gun. She's terrified of water, despite her family originally coming from a town nestled in a fjord. Years of stories and folksongs of death waiting just below the water affected her deeply. She isn't afraid of what lurks beneath the water, but of her own inability to swim. She isn't completely incapable of stepping foot in water, but she certainly has a tough time of it.
Despite her need to prove herself or seek validation, Astrid doesn't see herself as superior to her peers. In fact, she often sees herself as inferior because she falls short of the goals she sets for herself. In truth, she isn't inept. She simply sets goals that are too high.
Biography:
Astrid comes from a very long line of prestigious witches and wizards. Though her family tree's roots run deep, it's also undoubtedly tainted by the occasional dark wizard in its branches. Some in the family blame the family's almost constant ties to Durmstrang, while others blame the pressure of representing the Nereim family.
Astrid's parents, being unofficial outcasts within the family, decided that they didn't want to risk the corruption of their child by allowing her to attend Durmstrang. They moved to England, intending for Astrid to attend Hogwarts, where the focus on actually learning the Dark Arts would be less prevalent.
Astrid now only returns to the castle owned by her family on rare occasions, such as weddings or the occasional grand party. This distance hasn't stopped her uncles and aunts from visiting and trying to nudge her toward a more ambitious outlook on life, but she is significantly more content with her lot than most children her age in the family.
Alix lives alone with her parents in a smaller home along the coast east of Norwich. Alix has few friends, and not a single one of them is a muggle. Most of her friends are friends of circumstance, brought into her life by the ties of purity that bind their blood. Her parents have tried to coax Astrid away from the haughty attitude of superiority that comes with her pureblood status, but between that and her other relatives insisting on her superiority, all they've managed to do is give Astrid an inferiority complex.
First Instance of Magic:
Astrid's first instance of magic came from a need of self-preservation at the age of eight. She was at a lake with her mom, helping to harvest potion ingredients, when her foot slipped and she fell into the lake.
Instead of waving around and scrambling in an attempt to not drown, Astrid found that the water had a soft, bouncy composition, and after a few moments of bouncing on the gelatin-like lake, Astrid found her feet back on solid land.
