Biography: Lives with her mother in the outskirts of York; has never known her father; her cousin lived with them for a year, she looked up to him and followed him pretty much everywhere until he had to move back to his family; she had one friend in her hometown who was a muggle and died of leukemia two years before she got her letter; both Kim and her friend were homeschooled by her mother and, while he stayed with them, her cousin; after her friend died her mother send her to a muggle school to be around kids her age again; it didn't go well since she was very quiet and shy, still sad by her friend's death that she didn't want to bond with the other kids

First Instance of Magic: when Kim and her friend were seven, before her friends illness presented itself, they liked to play made-up games in the small forest near their houses, despite their parents warnings; one day when they were playing there close to the stream her friend slipped on some wet rocks and fell backwards on to the rocks; Kim tried to catch her but wasn't fast enough; instead of hitting her head on the rocks Kim's desire to help her cushioned her fall with magic; her friend shrugged it off as good luck that nothing happened, but Kim excitedly told her mother afterward
