In the small hamlet of Barton in the Beans, there was a small farmhouse that was often avoided by many of the locals. "The owners are very strange" many would whisper, "What are they called again? Boggytrotters? Crazy folk indeed." and indeed the owners were odd, the Bogtrotter family resided there. Barnibus and Rosemary Bogtrotter weren't normal folk, they were magic folk. Loud bangs and bright lights could often be seen coming from the barn at night, the locals thought that Barnibus was either creating fireworks or weapons grade explosives. "Booming again, and at three in the morning?! They have two children for crying out loud!" and two children they had indeed.

The youngest of the Bogtrotter twins, Barney is known to many as a rather quiet boy who keeps himself to himself, anyone or anything that are outside of his circle won't be any of his concern. To those who are inside of his circle however, Barney is a caring boy, fiercely protective of those he calls friends. When he was six, he performed his first case of accidental magic, to his father's disapproval. His father and mother were having a row, Barney and his twin, Rhys, were sat at the kitchen table and as it grew more heated, so did Barney's father's hair. Barney, in defense of his mother began to glare at his father, wanting to do something to help, wanted to make his father calm down. Eventually, smoke began to rise from the mop that was his fathers hair, causing panic to erupt from all of the family members in the vicinity, all except from his twin brother Rhys. The windows flung open and a gust of wind came pouring through the kitchen, the small flame being extinguished in an instant. When Barney looked around to see who had thrown open the windows, he saw Rhys staring intently at the window and Barney knew his brother had saved the day.

Rhys wouldn't let him hear the end of it, constant cheers of "Did you see what I did?! How great was that?! Father's hair was on fire and I felt it happen, I know that -I- did it!" to which Barney would always say "It was just the wind".

Finally the day came when the two boys with hair as dark as coal and eyes to match received their acceptance letters, and they awaited eagerly to be taken off to Hogwarts to become wizards that their parents could be proud of.
