Physical Description:
Clare Lowen is a petite girl; always one of the smallest in groups of children her age. At eleven, Clare has only grown to four and a half feet - she's waiting for a growth spurt (her mother says one will come soon). She has yellow-blonde hair, which is almost certain to darken with age to match her fawn-coloured eyebrows. She has blue-grey eyes, and is so fair-skinned that her cheeks, nose, and under-eyes look almost pink in the winter months. She doesn't tan well, she burns, but her colour becomes less ghastly in the warmer months.

Mental Description:
Clare is rather quiet around children her age, possibly the result of being an only child who has spent most of her life socializing with her parents and maternal grandparents. At school, she makes top marks and gets along decently with the other children, but always remains on the shy side. At home, shy is not a word her parents or grandparents would ever use to describe her. In fact, they would probably choose the word 'precocious'. Clare has developed somewhat worldly interests for a child of eleven; she enjoys learning languages (French is her favorite), reading, horseback riding, painting, and playing piano. She comes out of her shell around adults more than peers, but she has always longed to be more comfortable around girls her age. Clare can be quite funny, but never when she tries.

Biography:
Clare grew up in a house with her parents, Robert and Camille, in the Kensington area of London. Her father, Robert, is a wizard working for the Ministry of Magic and her mother, Camille, is a muggle who works as a primary school teacher in London. Clare grew up extremely fortunate to be cherished by her parents, and as an only child, received nearly everything she could ever want. Not only was she lucky enough to grow up exploring London with her parents, but she was able to spend the majority of her time doing her favorite activity: riding horses in the country. Her maternal grandparents, both muggles, operate a horse farm outside of Surrey and Clare spent a lot of time there. She loved her grandparents, but she loved her grey horse, Atticus, even more (not that she ever told her grandparents that!). Clare spent her school terms in London with her parents while she attended prep school and she spent her holidays riding and competing in Surrey with Atticus and her grandparents. Clare's parents decided to raise her as a muggle until she reached age eleven, when she would attend Hogwarts like her father had. Until Clare's first experience with magic when she was ten, she did not know the truth about herself or her father - she always thought he was just a normal English government employee.

First Instance of Magic:
Clare first experienced magic by accident when she was ten years old, while competing in a horseback riding competition in Surrey. She was jumping a course of small fences with her grey gelding, Atticus, competing against a girl named Thalia. Thalia and Clare had never gotten along, and before Clare entered the ring, Thalia looked at Clare and Atticus and said, "10 quids Clare knocks the first fence." The statement made the other girls standing around erupt into laughter. Clare, not being one to fight back with words, felt her cheeks flush and her heart rate spike, but she entered the ring on Atticus nevertheless. As Clare cantered Atticus towards the first fence, she felt her stomach drop and felt Thalia and the other girls' eyes burning holes into the back of her head. Atticus took off the ground to jump the blue and white striped pole, and Clare heard his hoof tap the rail mid-air. She had knocked half of it, so the rail was now diagonal. Her heart sank, she whipped her head to see the rail halfway to the ground, and she spotted Thalia cracking up at the gate. Just as Thalia was shouting, "10 quids!", the side of the blue and white post on the ground began to rise back into the cup. Clare continued cantering the rest of the course, knocking no more rails. At the end of her trip, the announcer, stunned, spoke into the speaker, "Clare Lowen has finished with a miraculously clear trip." Everyone was stunned, and Clare could not explain how the pole had returned to its original position despite Atticus's hoof knocking it down. Her muggle grandparents were bewildered, and upon Clare's return to London, her parents told her everything.
