Physical Description: John has shaggy, brown hair and bright, striking, blue eyes upon a small, thoughtful face. He's a bit tall and lanky for his age, and can be pretty clumsy, as if still getting used to his growing limbs.

Mental Description: John is shy at first encounter, but has a quick wit, sharp tongue, and bright mind. He loves books and learning, and can be very social once more comfortable with others. He has quite a bit of anxiety and self-doubt, but is also a huge dreamer and general optimist.

Biography: John was a half-blood, born to an Irish factory worker and a Welsh witch. His parents were hard-working and strict, but also loving and protective. His mother didn't use much magic around John or his father, possibly out of fear of making them feel intimidated or uncomfortable. Despite the occasional glimpses of the Wizarding World through his mother's side, John spent most of his time alone in his room, reading books and playing video games. John didn't think he had what it took to be an effective wizard, despite his lineage, and his mother seemed to want him to have a normal, mostly-Muggle life. Then his mother passed when he was 6, and since then he and his father have moved frequently from place to place, which has made it hard for him to get settled and make friends. More than that, after losing his mother, all contact with magic seemed to leave John's life completely. That is, of course, until he got his Hogwarts letter...

First Instance of Magic: One day after school when he was 8, a group of bullies were following John home and looking to torment him, as John was still the new kid and a bit of a loner. They cornered him against a neighbor's hedge, and started hitting him and knocking his things to the ground. Suddenly, there was a loud CRACK and the bullies went flying and sent sprawling to the ground. John, on the other hand, found himself and his things safely on the other side of the hedge. He had no idea how he got there, or what had happened. Confused and scared, John gathered his belongings and ran home, while the bullies ran away terrified. John's mother had passed by this point, and John never gathered the courage to tell his father, rather he simply hoped it was a fluke, and wouldn't happen again.
