Erin is an Irish-American student. Her father is American and her mother is Irish. Erin was born in America and was raised in America until she was 9. When she was 9 years old, Erin's parents moved to Donegal, Ireland to live with her Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, who has begun to get worse in health. While Erin's father is still saddened that she will not get to go to his alma mater of Ilvermorny and potentially share in his house of Thunderbird, he is nonetheless happy to see Erin attend Hogwarts and both parents are hopeful that Erin will share her mother's house of Hufflepuff.
While living in America, Erin and her family lived in the Appalachian mountains of Eastern Tennessee in a primarily muggle community. While Erin's family did perform magic in the privacy of their own home, Erin did grow up around and is aware of muggle activities and inventions as oftentimes when Erin's father would have muggle friends over she would see her Father do things without magic (such as chopping onions and washing dishes by hand). In the two years since moving to Ireland though, Erin has rarely seen her parents participate in muggle activities anymore so her memory has faded on muggle activities.

Erin's first noticed instance of magic is quite the funny story her parents claim. It was when Erin was around 9 years old about a month after moving to Donegal, and she was really frustrated with her flowers she helped her Grandmother plant weren't growing "quick enough". In her fit of anger, Erin managed to make the flowers sprout, much to her Grandmother and Mother's surprise.
