Physical Description:

Sebastian has curly brown hair and piercing blue eyes. He stands at roughly 4ft9, and while his weight is average he is slightly more toned than most kids his age due to a lot of time spent helping his mother in the garden. Likewise his skin is naturally sun-kissed and features its fair share of freckles.

He goes through phases of growing his hair out and cutting it back; he prefers the way it looks when it's longer, because the curls come out, but toiling in the garden can leave him longing to shave it shorter. When he's not wearing some sort of uniform, he likes to wear something lightweight, often linen shirts or tank tops, though like most kids he also loves his t-shirts and hoodies!

Mental Description:

Having grown up on his family's little homestead, Sebastian was quick to garner empathy for all living things. He'd happily help with their small menagerie of animals - a dairy cow, two goats, a sheep, and a herd of chickens to name only the farm animals - and quickly grew an affinity toward them. With time he also gained his mother's green thumb, helping her in the garden with far more interest than his other siblings seemed to have.

Being so far from any real city, at night the stars would shine so brightly they were impossible to ignore. He'd often sit with his father in the grass at night, or stand beside their gilded telescope, and marvel at what lay beyond their planet.

Sebastian is a homebody at heart, and never likes to be too far from his family. The Sorrel's are a very close-knit lot, and their shared work on the homestead has turned them into quite a productive team. Growing up without any immediate neighbours encouraged the Sorrel kids to find unique outlets for their energy and social needs when outside of school. While some took to learning sports, or forms of art, Sebastian always seemed to prefer writing. It was a hobby he could take anywhere, and even when chasing after chickens he could conjure up a story in his mind, ready to write down at a later time.

Unlike most kids of his generation, he's never really had any interest in technology. His phone is an old flip kind, used solely when he wanted to wander into neighbouring fields, and the only gaming console the family have is an old beat up GameCube complete with all the classic party games, such as his favourite 'Super Monkey Ball'. If it's used, it's used as a family! Each week the family would also have a film night, usually cast by projector onto the living room wall - though in summer they'd take a large sheet outside to set up an outdoor theatre. Sebastian finds himself drawn more toward the fantastical movies, though with 4 other siblings it's rare he gets to choose.

While he loves all of the homestead animals dearly, his favourite has to be his all black German Shepherd 'Beren'. Sebastian could spend hours sitting with the pup as he herded their small flock of sheep and happily galloped through the fields. Out of all the things he'd be leaving behind - parents not included - Beren is the one he's going to miss the most.

Biography:

Sebastian was born and raised among the rolling hills of Shropshire, just outside of the town of Much Wenlock. He's the third of five kids, and only one of two to have displayed any magical proficiency so far. His older sister Alina (17) recently graduated from Hogwarts herself, while his older brother Tobin (15) attends an ordinary secondary school. His two younger sisters Rhiannon (6) and Olivia (6) have yet to show any signs of being magical themselves.

His father Beric (40) was a pureblood who fell in love with a muggle; Florence (39) caught his attention with her magnificent green thumb, and even without magic she was able to grow all manner of crops in the Shropshire countryside. Flowers bloomed eagerly and her fruits and vegetables were some of the best he'd ever tasted. They married in their early twenties, much to Beric's father's displeasure, though with time (and the arrival of Alina) both families were able to put aside their differences and truly unite.

The newly minted family would go on to inherit a decently sized patch of land, around 2 acres all told, which would become their homestead. A large garden patch was worked by every member of the family in some way or another, with Beric building new beds and Florence sowing her own 'magic' into the dirt. With each new child the garden grew, as did their menagerie of animals. From chickens to goats, to a whole dairy goat and some sheep, they sought to live as much as they could off the land.

By the time that Sebastian was born his oldest sibling Alina had already shown her innate magical nature, having set fire to her bedroom curtains in a characteristic fit of rage. Thankfully their father was there to soothe and educate her on what exactly she was experiencing, and with each new child that was born he'd take care to monitor then and teach them about their magical heritage to avoid another such near-catastrophic incident.

Around the time that Alina received her acceptance letter to Hogwarts, Sebastian too began to show signs of magical affinity, which for a while served to drive a wedge between him and Tobin who had proven thus far to lack the same. His sister was sorted into Slytherin, and aspired to make their father as proud as could be.

They would later find out that Beric himself had been a Gryffindor. He proclaimed that no matter where they landed with the Sorting Ceremony he'd always be supportive and proud of them. This helped to ease any concerns Sebastian began to have when his own acceptance letter arrived... With a Gryffindor father, and a Slytherin sister there wasn't really any inherent House he longed to become a part of. Truth be told he was mostly nervous about leaving home at all.

But then the day came for them to travel to Diagon Alley, and while he'd been once or twice before when Alina was gathering supplies, it was a whole different experience traversing that magical street for himself...

First Instance of Magic:

Sebastian brought home a tiny pea shoot from school when he was in Year 1, and was disheartened to discover it was the smallest out of all his classmates. He insisted on growing it himself, without his green-thumbed mother's help, but for days the seedling seemed intent on withering. Sebastian became so upset about this that he became both frustrated and inconsolable.

When his mother asked to see how it was doing he grew embarrassed and tried to hide it, though eventually he revealed it to her. Imagine his surprise when the plant had begun to truly thrive! Though the boy didn't know it at the time, he'd inadvertently altered it with magic. This strengthened his bond with his mother, and from then on he was always eager to help her in their garden.
