Physical Description: Theodorus gives the impression that elegance is natural. The way he moves is so graceful that it looks like he's floating. His posture is impeccable, his movements fluid. None of this is natural; all of this is a product of his parents' rigorous standards.

He inherited his father's jet black hair, and jet black eyebrows. His mother's dark, piercing eyes. He is tall for his age, and will be 6'1 when he is fully grown. His cheekbones will sharpen, with a jawline to match, and he will be pleased with his looks.


Mental Description: Theodorus is a very determined person. From a young age, he was raised with Pureblood expectations: to be the best. This applies to the way he carries himself, which Theodorus has spent hours working on, just so he can appear more graceful than he naturally is. It also applies to his intelligence; he is expected to get top marks in all of his sujects, and if he doesn't, there will be hell to pay. Theodorus feels lucky that he is naturally intelligent, and enhances this by his absolute devotion to books, knowledge, and learning.

Theodorus has plans. The Ministry of Magic holds a lot of promise; politics, theatrics, clawing your way up the ladder until you're sitting pretty on top like the cat that got the cream. Theodorus wants to sit pretty on top. He wants the cream. He wants it so bad he can taste it sometimes, when it is one in the morning and his eyes are falling shut, but he just has one more chapter to go. He'll taste it then, and it will jolt him awake. He will read the last chapter. He will reach the top; failure is not an option.


Biography: Theodorus was raised in a manor house on a hill, not far from Castle Cary, a small town in Somerset, England. His family’s home is hidden from the nearby Muggles with magic. It is nothing too flashy, but a sign of their wealth nonetheless. It was in this manor house that Theodorus was born on November 1st, 2010.

The Hornbeam family are Purebloods, going back for generations. An ancestor once changed their family name from Selwyn, the old family they branched from, to Hornbeam, because of their particular line of the family’s affinity for Hornbeam wands.

( When Theodorus’s Pine wood wand chose him, his family were sceptical. But he quickly presented the information he could find on his wand’s wood, and his family were appeased by things like owners of Pine wands “are destined for long lives” and that owners of these wands are most likely to find success with non-verbal magic, due to the wood’s sensitivity to it. )

Theodorus’s family is rather small, due to their habits of only marrying other Purebloods. There is himself, an only child, and his parents, Maximus Hornbeam, and Beatrice Hornbeam (née Burke). Other than them is his uncle, Gaius Hornbeam, his father’s brother; his aunt, Calliope Fawley (née Burke), his mother’s sister; and his Grandmother, Lavinia Hornbeam, his father’s mother. Even though the family is small, they see this as a good thing. They are all close, and Theodorus’s aunt and uncle dote on him as they have no children of their own. He feels loved among his family, and he knows that they will be there to help him if he ever needs it.

In fact, it was Theodorus’s uncle, Gaius, who secured him the best tutors. Theodorus had them from a young age, and they taught him reading and writing (in both English and Latin), and using a toy wand, how to hold a wand properly and how to make the common wand movements correctly. While not actually teaching him any spells or magic at all, this did allow Theodorus to get comfortable with holding a wand, and the intricacies of wand movements and how they are formed, and how they fit together to form more complicated ones. Even with a toy wand, it had been helpful to Theodorus. His family also gave him lessons: his Uncle taught him flying lessons, and also about the Quidditch rules while he learned. His mother was the one who taught Theodorus manners, gracefulness, and how to dance.

His father’s lessons were always The Most Important, according to Maximus himself. He taught Theodorus the ins-and-outs of politics, as he is expected to be (and wants to be, in his own right) a politician one day. He knows how to make sure the right words end up in the right ears, and to put money in the right pockets. He knows how to socialise and network, and has been doing so with Pureblood children his own age for years.

All of their parents host Pureblood-only events from time to time, which they’ve all attended for years. They were all told, growing up, that they would be in Slytherin together too. They are all pleased about this, of course: they know that Slytherin is the best house, and that being sorted there is the best way to achieve their goals in the future. The other people they meet in their house, whether from the years above or below, will potentially be some of the ones who will help them achieve greatness.


First Instance of Magic: Theodorus had been four, and playing with his toy dragon, and the toy dragon had flown too far out of his reach. He was starting to get angry, swiping at the air but unable to reach the toy. His mother had stood up from her chair, a look of concern on her face, but before she could act, Theodorus’s magic did. The dragon suddenly zoomed through the air and into the little boy’s hand, and Theodorus grinned and continued to play, completely unaware of the significance of his first instance of accidental magic.
