Physical Description:

Nerium comes up to a full 4’6” but is projected to grow another 4 inches before they stop. They have a slight build and aren’t very strong, but they aren’t sickly. Their skin has an healthy glow and they might be skinny but they don’t appear starved. They have hair dyed forest green that they maintain religiously although it’s always a bit of a rats’ nest besides the color. They have deep brown eyes that could nearly be described as black which are framed by black metal glasses that are always falling off their nose. They wear practical clothing, typically muggle, when out of uniform and find wizarding clothing to be ostentatious.

Mental Description:

Nerium is extremely observant. Not the charcoal socks to make you seem taller, kind , but in the, notice the important things, rarely let down their guard, kind. They think plans through and aren’t impulsive, but can be a bit hesitant to make a split second decision when put on the spot. They’re a strategic thinker who has a little bit of knowledge in anything making them a formidable opponent or invaluable ally in battles of wit. Aside from their cool head they’re rather friendly, veers away from violence but isn’t afraid to fight for what’s right. They’re good with words and love to study and learn, and while friendly they also value their alone time. If Neri is stuck around people for long periods of time they get grumpy and easily pissed off.

Nerium’s somewhat of an old soul, tending to be more responsible and gentle than many other teens of their age. They give good advice and are always eager to help, proving themself to be wise in many moments, but is still a 14 year old teenager despite their training and can be somewhat immature or irrationally nervous at times. They love to cook and believe that almost anything can be fixed with a good meal and someone to talk about the problem with.

They are determined and stubborn, and tends to compartmentalize their feelings to process in more appropriate times.

They’re skilled in academic fields and can get pulled into a project for days, only stopping to eat and sleep when their friend forces them to. They’re hard to anger, but when they are angry, both their words and fists can be scathing. They are also stubbornly independent, and stubborn enough to refuse to ask for help, not wanting to be a burden or ‘drag anyone into their problems’ to the point that they take on more than they can handle.

In many group interactions Nerium is happy to sit back and watch, making sure nothing disastrous occurs. They like being around people, but conversations tend to take (not ill-spent) energy out of them so they participate in them sparingly, often preferring to be alone or among books or animals. When surprised or discussing something they are passionate about, Nerium becomes far more animated, gesturing with their hands and letting a southern accent come into their dialect instead of their usual Scottish one. Usually when this happens they get quite embarrassed afterwards.

Biography:

Neri always knew they were magical. Their muggle mother Anita Smith died during their birth but their father did a great job raising them. He didn’t really know what he was doing but Adan Clement wanted his daughter child to have the world. They were loved and he raised them in a happy magical home. They learned the alphabet, counting, common sounds for spells, and about sounds magical beasts make. They were a good child, always reading or playing with toys, didn’t like getting into trouble. They were a bit socially isolated, after what happened with their mother Adan was a bit of an helicopter parent.

Then when Nerium was seven tragedy struck. It was a heart attack, caused by high blood pressure. So simple. So mundane. And just like that Adan was gone. He’d willed custody to Margret Clement, Anita’s mother. So Nerium was introduced to the muggle world. They were…withdrawn. Spent free time inside, focused on school, and had no friends. They didn’t despise the lack of magic…that wasn’t what made the world turn gray. They despised the lack of Adan.

Margret didn’t want to deal with a depressed seven year old. She didn’t know how to handle it, she felt like she was raising a weirdo. And Margret didn’t want to deal it’s that. Leaving one solution.

Foster care. The family wasn’t bad, they joined the Greene family. Three biological kids, Twelve foster ones. With fourteen foster siblings Nerium didn’t get a lot of attention at home. They didn’t mind it though. The week was spent on school- Neri joined an study group as an after school club and spent their free time at the library. That didn’t love history or fictional books, the topics were too abstract to get the hang of. Instead they loved science and math. They learned about flowers, bugs, physics, they were no prodigy but they were driven and above average for their age.

They never really made friends but they were happy amongst books. They often looked after their siblings- learning to cook for when the Greenes were busy. Nothing special just some simple soups, rice, frying eggs, cookies. That kind of thing. Then at the age of eleven, after three years with the Greenes, their letter came.

They explained magic to the Greenes- how they could do some stuff but it was all very accidental, and promised them they’d are care of everything themselves so long as they bring them to Diagon Alley and the train station. They agreed- the foster kid pay check without the kid for helping with a few errands wasn’t a bad deal. So Neri headed to Hogwarts.

First Instance of Magic:

Neri had been with their grandma playing in the garden. Their father was…gone. It was rather shocking. Unable to do anything feeling of uselessness washed over them, they wanted to do something to honor their father. The ground broke open and a cluster of orchids grew, representing eternal love and sympathy. They were still sad…but knowing there was proof of their mourning out there, especially as their first bout of magic. Neri knew Adan would’ve been proud.
