Physical Description:
Zelda has a head of coarse dark brown hair which she typically keeps bunned up as much as possible to get it out of the way. Her hair texture is thick and slightly wavy, and can get rather hot in the summer. Like most 11 year old girls, however, Zelda is only just self-conscious enough to want to have long hair, but not yet so particular about her appearance that she wants to do anything special to maintain it.

Her complexion is somewhat fair, but she tans easily in the summer if she happens to be spending more time outside in the sun. She is of a rather small and short stature for an 11 year old girl.

Perhaps the most striking feature about her is her bright green eyes. This is a source of particular embarrassment to her because it gives ample fodder for her to be made fun of – “Zelda Lime-eyes” is a nickname she would especially like to leave behind her.

Mental Description:
Zelda is the second of three children. While most may expect her to exhibit middle-child symptoms, Zelda seems to have developed the other way, perhaps due to her siblings’ age differences with her. Instead of feeling neglected and excluded like many middle children do, Zelda instead is more prone to feeling overwhelmed with attention and responsibilities. As such, wherever possible, she tries to shrink away from being in the center of too much attention and taking up any kind of role where large groups of people would depend on her.

Though she might be considered an introvert in that she enjoys spending time by herself and would need it to feel recharged the next day, Zelda is by no means unsociable, a result of being in a family of extroverts. She hates awkward silences above all things, a circumstance that’s rare and therefore strange in her home life prior to Hogwarts, and would gladly initiate conversation with strangers if the need should arise. While she finds it easy to strike up conversations and make acquaintances, Zelda finds it a little awkward to be part of a fixed friend group or a clique. Instead, she finds it easier being friends with everyone but a best friend of no one. Her unusual hobbies also means it is difficult for her to find someone on a similar enough frequency that she could really enjoy a close friendship with.

Zelda has varied hobbies but she has a penchant for reading up about history, which is certainly unusual enough for an 11 year old girl. Her siblings tolerate it and her parents encourage it, but outside of her family Zelda has not yet found anyone her age who is passionate enough about the subject to converse with. In her spare time, Zelda enjoys drawing up the family trees of various English royal dynasties, although she is still working on remembering their exact dates of birth and death.

Aside from that, Zelda also enjoys helping her parents out in the kitchen. While she’s not yet been allowed to cook a full meal by herself, she thoroughly enjoys the process of preparing ingredients, something that her siblings cannot understand or empathize about. As a result of this, Zelda also enjoys gardening in a small way and feeling the rush of satisfaction when a small herb under her care is used in a dish for a special dinner when her parents are entertaining guests.

Biography:
Zelda comes from a fairly Muggle-like home life. Zelda’s older brother is a full 6 years older while her younger sister is only a year and a half younger. Because of the age differences, Zelda never felt like she had to compete with her brother for attention – by the time she was born, her parents were fully able to give her all the attention she needed. With the addition of her younger sister, Zelda is occasionally tasked to look after her while also still being showered almost as much attention as if she had been the baby of the family.

The magic in her blood comes from her mother, who used her magic sparingly around the house and kept it generally a secret from her children, though not from her husband. The Limes agreed that since their children would be half-blood and may not even exhibit any signs of magic at all, they wanted them to have as Muggle-like a childhood as possible in case they did not turn out to be witches or wizards and had to integrate into Muggle society as adults. Zelda’s older brother turned out to be exactly that. His 11th birthday came and went without any signs of an owl, and he went on to attend secondary school.

Mr Lime works as a food researcher in a lab in London while Mrs Lime is a stay-at-home mom with a small business selling crocheted goods online in recent years. Her children always thought she had some amazing talent at crochet considering how many items she can churn out every night after they had gone to bed, but they of course did not know there were spells to help with that. The Limes are a particularly sociable family and are on good terms with their neighbourhood, regularly inviting neighbours around for tea or dinner. As a much younger child, Zelda used to try to escape from these occasions, but through a system of positive reinforcement and making effort to engage and include the children during these meals, the Limes were fairly successful in drawing out some sociability in their children, including Zelda.

First Instance of Magic:
Zelda's first instance of magic was nothing particularly spectacular. It happened one day when she was about 6 years old, and had not been in a good mood at school. The class had been reading a story about an ugly wicked witch who made herself beautiful but her glamour was eventually seen through by the heroine who recognized the witch by her bright green eyes.

The class had discussed the story but it ended with some of her meaner classmates drawing the parallel between the witch's eyes and Zelda's, which ended with them taunting her and calling her Zelda Lime-eyes. At that age, Zelda had not yet learnt how to deal with bullies, and simply cried all the way home to her mother.

"I hate having green eyes, I don't want them!" Zelda had shrieked in frustration when she got home. Her mother attempted to soothe her but Zelda was inconsolable. Eventually her mother was able to calm her down enough to wipe the tears off her cheeks, but then it was now Mrs Lime's turn to give a start.

"Did you or your classmates do anything to your eyes in school?" Mrs Lime asked, barely able to keep her cool as she stared at her daughter's face in alarm.

"N-no. I came home immediately after class. What's happened to my eyes, mom?" Zelda began to feel afraid now, having never seen her mother this taken aback and flustered. Mrs Lime hesitated for a moment as if deciding what to do, before she guided Zelda to the nearest mirror in the house.

Zelda's eyes were now a bright ultraviolet purple. The shade was too bright and vivid to be a simple trick of the light.

Zelda nearly broke down into a bigger crying mess. If she had hated her eyes green, she hated it even more being purple. She looked even weirder, even more out of the ordinary, and there was no way her classmates were going to leave her alone if they saw her like this. Most of all, she was utterly bewildered and confused as to how her eyes changed colours. Had it willed it to be so just because she had said how much she hated her green eyes? She now wanted them back. She'd much rather have green eyes than purple ones.

Mrs Lime immediately took control of the situation. She reassured Zelda that the purple eyes would go away soon enough and she could stay home from school until then. As a witch herself, Mrs Lime immediately recognized this as the first instance of magic showing through for Zelda but decided that it wasn't an appropriate time for her to disclose that to her daughter at a time when she was actively dealing with fitting in in school. It was only years later when Zelda received the letter by owl on her 11th birthday, an occasion that Mrs Lime had long anticipated, that she finally sat her down and patiently explained to her what she needed to know about Hogwarts and the wizarding world.
