Physical:
Serena is a pale, short witch, skinny and brown eyed. Though she's preferred robes since being adopted into the magical world, Serena still has a keen muggle dress sense, and delights in frilly dresses and cute coats, berets, and the like. Atop her short brown hair is usually placed a pointy witch's hat, although Serena swaps this out for hair bows or a beret when blending in with muggles.
Personality:
Serena is an inquisitive witch, hungry for the knowledge that awaits in magical education. Though she can be snappy and argumentative at times, Serena cares deeply about other people. Having grown up an only child left mostly on her own, Serena struggles to connect with other children of her age. She is a strict follower of rules and is appalled byeven the most mundane lawbreaking. Serena spends most of her time reading whatever her mother will bring home, from potions books to compendiums of wizard laws and history. She is greatly self-assured in her intelligence, which she says is her greatest strength, (though she has no practical experience whatsoever.) Her greatest fear is being expelled by the wizarding world, the only place she has ever felt safe and at home.
Life:
Serena's real parents are muggles, but they abandoned her after her first magical incident. Shortly after her name was put down for Hogwarts, she was adopted by a witch, Edwina. They live alone with the family owl in the ancient stone house owned by Edwina in Llantwit Major. The house, older than anyone alive's greatest grandparents, is kept magically upright and cleaned by magic. Small but cozy, with only four small rooms, Serena spends much of her time watching her mother brewing potions at the living room table while she reads. In fact, Serena spends most of her time reading, her only hobby since she was very little – though she occasionally sneaks out for a ride on her mother's racing broom. Serena already has a strong theoretical knowledge of beginner-level Potions, understands basic wizarding law and could list out most common British magical creatures off of her head. She delights in sharing this information with others, though she tends to bore their heads off in doing so. Serena has deep-rooted feelings of abandonment and craves the acceptance of others, but she isn't very good at making friends. In the oft chance Serena doesn't bore them to death with obscure magical facts, she tends to drive them away with her fiercely argumentive nature, no doubt born from her birth parents' constant bickering. Despite this, Serena is very content since being adopted. She revels in her unhoned magical abilities, and in Edwina's acceptance and love. Serena refuses to admit that she is adopted to anyone, and that her parents were actually muggles. (A rather feeble lie, given that her mom's partner was well-known to be a woman.)
First Instance of Magic:
Serena's first magical experience came later than most witches. Sick of her parents incessant arguing, a nine year old Serena shouted them down and in the process, sent several armchairs and a couch flying towards them. Frightened by their daughter's unexplained ability and afraid that next time she might truly hurt them, Serena's parents put her up for adoption, and she hasn't seen them since.
