Ravenna was named in honor of Rowena Ravenclaw. Her surname Guntram, taken from her mother, means raven. Her parents wish for her, their only child, is to mirror the life of the great Rowena Ravenclaw. And, when they first saw her pitch black hair, they knew there was a blessing on their prayers and they named her for a raven twice.
Her eyes, though, are a rather eerie green; beautiful, but very intimidating. And... rather unlike a raven's black eyes.
Her skin is a light olive shade. She doesn't need the sun in order to avoid being called pale... but she also doesn't go out in the sun much so she often simply looks ill. Olive skin is rather uncommon for someone of her descent, but most people don't even think to question it.
Ravenna's mother was a Ravenclaw and her father a Slytherin. Her parents are privately but steadfastly opposed to the possibility of Ravenna becoming a Slytherin. They feel that anyone in the house of Slytherin must have uncommon moral fiber in order to resist the easy path toward evil. The only other hope for a Slytherin is to get lucky like Ravenna's father Kyle who managed to fall in love with a wise Ravenclaw, Ravenna's mother Elizabeth. The two are quiet in their opposition to Slytherin, maintaining their contacts and friendships. But they have taught Ravenna that wisdom and goodness are not to be found in Slytherin.
Ravenna has her own ideas however. Knowing that she has both the blood of a Ravenclaw and the blood of a Slytherin, she is unsure which house she will end up in. But she is bright and ambitious and doesn't doubt that she will be placed in one of those two. But were she to choose she thinks she would rather wear green than blue and attempt to make a path somewhat different than her parents' design.
Another prominent aspect of Ravenna's upbringing (though neither parent would admit to an accusation) is that Ravenna is proudly a pure-blood. Her parents have instilled into her the importance of this purity. This has been done quite unknowingly however and neither Ravenna or her parents would realize the tilt. Nevertheless, Ravenna has unconscious bias against the non pure-bloods. She would never have heard words like mudblood in her house or have seen any violent acts against anyone. But, if she were forced to choose her friends from a line, she would certainly favor the purer bred.
As Ravenna is only 11 she has little knowledge of any affinities she may possess. As a child she never excelled at any sports. She never accidentally performed feats of magic beyond any normal expectation. And she never blew anyone away with her knowledge of history or science. However, Ravenna does love to read. And while she has never been told that she brings with her an impressive understanding of Hogwarts history, she will learn this to be the case very quickly in her first year at school.
