PROFESSOR OF DEFENCE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS
────
A P P E A R A N C E
Rion stands at 6'0" tall. He sports shaggy neck-length brown hair that is often loosely gelled back. His hair has a sprinkling of white strands due to his age. His eyes are deep blue in hue and they are often framed by dark circles because of his late-night schedule. A white scar decorates the side of his left cheek after an altercation involving dark magic during his former career as a hit-wizard. Years of working as a hit wizard have also left his form muscular and covered in wispy scars. Though they could be easily healed, Rion prefers to keep them as reminders of what he has been through.

Quiet and thoughtful, Rion prefers to assess a situation before reacting, in part because of his former line of work. Rion's general demeanour may seem off-putting to strangers, especially outsiders who often assume his stolid nature is a cover-up to a dark secret...
For those who have the opportunity to get to know the French man, they will find that he usually possesses a cheerful disposition and a rather playful personality. He shows great concern for his students, especially with the current dangers lurking within the forbidden forest.

Orion (o-RYE-en) Phillipe (fee-LEEP) Lécuyer (LAY-coo-yay) was born on November 5th, 1988 to two French pure-blood wizards, Delphine (born 1960) and Phillipe Lécuyer (born 1955). His parents visited a naming Seer after his birth to help decide on a name that would best suit him. Believing he was destined to follow in his father's footsteps, the name 'Orion' was selected, after the mythological Greek huntsman. Despite his name being 'Orion', he prefers to go by simply 'Rion'. He has three younger siblings; a sister named Océane (born 1990), and two brothers; Basile (born 1995) and Leonardo (born 1997).

Rion grew up in the French countryside in a comfortable manor. His parents came from old money, so their family did not want for much. Still, his parents insisted on working. His father was an Auror, and his mother worked for the French Ministry of Magic. She raised Rion and his three younger siblings alone after their father lost his life during the second wizarding war. As the oldest, Rion stepped up and helped his mother care for his siblings; he learned how to cook and bake from his grandmother, something that he still enjoys to this day. His first instance of magic happened at the age of seven. It was a simple event, nothing too fancy. Rion, having always possessed a great sweet tooth, had been denied a sugary treat that morning. His mother had said it was too early for pastries. Young Rion became upset and the family suddenly noticed one of the leftover chocolate éclairs from the night prior floating across the kitchen and landing on his plate.

Rion attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic in his youth. Quiet and reserved, he was a bit bookish and preferred the company of the written word to others, selecting to make few social connections. He did, however, quickly find his talent in Defense Against the Dark Arts after wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an Auror. Rion's quiet nature often made him a target for bullies, or those who mistook it for an act of cowardice. While these were often unpleasant times for Rion, they also forced him to hone his skills and keep his emotions under control. Over the course of his school years, Rion learned much about his abilities and focused on sharpening and training them. He completed his schooling and N.E.W.T.s at age eighteen and then applied to work for the Bureau of Magical Justice in the Auror department. It was while working as an Auror that he met some of his life-long friends.

Working in one of the magical community's most dangerous professions, he quickly came to love the adrenaline rush that danger offered. After spending over a decade as an Auror, Rion found his career was quickly becoming less satisfying. Openings in the hit wizard department were almost always a guarantee, given the high mortality rate. The promise of helping make the wizarding community a safer place helped Rion with his decision, and he became a hit wizard. He assisted in hunting down some of Europe’s most notorious magical criminals. His sister, Océane also followed their family's career path and became an Auror.

However, on November 6th, 2020, the day after his birthday, he was given the news that Océane had died in the line of duty, her husband now a widower and single father of two small children. Rion dealt with death on an almost daily basis, but the loss of his sister rattled him. He felt a career change was necessary, having found he no longer felt that same spark of joy when hunting down criminals. It was several months later that an old colleague informed him of a job opening at Hogwarts
