Mikayla is muggle-born and had no knowledge of the wizarding world prior to receiving her Hogwarts letter. Her mother was very surprised but supportive of her and the path she is about to go on. Her dad was less surprised and seems to have known about the wizarding world even though no one else in her immediate family did. Her father's stepmother had been involved in the wizarding community and he had kept that secret for years. So even though he was surprised to have a witch as a daughter, he knew that they existed. He has been super supportive of Mikayla and what she has been going through with learning that she is a witch going to a magical school. This really helped Mikayla feel less out of place about the whole thing. Mikayla's best friend, Kaly, doesn't know about her or why she is suddenly going to a new school, but Mikayla is upset about having to keep the secret from her. Mikayla is an average height for an eleven year old, with brown hair to about her shoulders and lightish brown eyes. Mikayla is a bit of an introvert and a bit shy, so she has trouble initiating conversation with people she has never met. Once she gets to know people, she is very upbeat and never seems to run out of things to say and always seems to have random information to share. She loves to read. Mikayla is also very loyal to those she considers friends and would do anything to keep her friends happy and safe. Defending her friends is something that Mikayla doesn't blink an eye about.
