Cyrus Moriarty was born as the first and to present only child to Eliza and Borus Moriarty. The name Moriarty use to mean a lot more in England's wizard community but a now rarely spoken of scandal reduced the house to little more than a shell of it's former self, still able to live comfortably but each generation seeming to chase after the glory and wealth they once had.

These days the Moriartys are best known for being active socialites, seeming to find a way into most every social circle they can and getting by on charm alone. Their power is real but delicate, held aloft on their outstandingly maintained reputation alone. They're fairly well known in Ireland for their ties to Ministry Officials and other pure-blood houses though allegations of having similar connections to criminals and dark wizards has almost ruined them in the past.

This meant Cyrus never stood a chance of being raised like a normal child. He had the distinction of possessing none of the luxury and all the responsibility of being 'noble'; that's what having the name Moriarty meant. It was difficult being raised with such high expectations on his shoulders. As long as he could remember he had to follow all the rules and do everything he was told or else face swift punishment. Cyrus would never think of his parents as cruel people but it was and has always been a struggle to live up to their standards.

A part of this burden was loneliness. His parents thought it unsightly for him to spend time with the other children who lived nearby, uncouth little hellions they assured him they were. What company he did get wasn't much better as it was almost exclusively social events. The children he met there were almost always from impressive families themselves -- and the complete opposite of him. All the privilege and luxury and none of the manners. Worst of all was having to smile through it all for of course it'd look badly upon the family if he spoke out of line even as he was ridiculed for being from a family of social leeches.

Extended family seemed to be the only people that any of them would seem comfortable around. Auntie Marge had gone and married some alchemist from a family about as well off as their own and though she'd moved to England to live with him the never failed to visit for the holidays. Unlike his mother Auntie Marge had a good four children, ranging from younger to older than Cyrus. Expectations were dropped when it was just family. Nobody expected you to be proper when it was just blood. Those weeks he got to spend with them were something he looked forward to more than the holidays they came for in the first place.

As he grew up a looming concern came over both himself and his parents; school. Of course his name had been put down for Hogwarts since birth but he'd been taught from home since he was a boy. Cyrus was nervous going to a school, sitting in a class and being surrounded by a bunch of other children he didn't know. Of course his parents were more concerned that he'd fall in with the wrong crowd and lose his good manners -- or worse, show in bad light in front of a child of a well off family they knew. This was Hogwarts after all, plenty of wheat would be among the chaff.

Even with the Moriarty name resting on his shoulders there was a feeling of excitement when he began to think about the school days to come. Naturally living in a wizarding house gets a child excited for the day they too can learn magic but beyond that he was just excited to get out of the house, to meet people. To maybe stand out as who he was rather than just as 'a Moriarty'.

His parents took him to Diagon Alley the same week he received his letter, helping him buy everything he needed before they took him out of Ireland for the first time in his life to get him to King's Cross Station. He stepped on board the train with a nervous optimism, ready for what his first year would bring him.

Appearance:

Hair Colour: Dark Brown
Eye Colour: Grey
Height: 146 cm
General Features: Fair skin with few blemishes. Hair seems to resist most mundane efforts to stay neat and seems to defy most magical efforts to tame it given time.

Personality:

Cyrus is almost universally polite, courteous and especially well mannered for someone his age. He's eager to get to know people of all kinds, seeming to lack any kind of bias and even seeming unphased by negative behavior. The longer someone knows him the more clear it might be that something is off. Outside of introductions and small talk he seems to have very little to say and quickly comes off as far more nervous and uncertain when forced to talk outside of those situations. He can be coaxed out but even he seems uncertain who he is under it all at the end of the day.
