Physical Description: Kenna is petite, with flaming red hair and wide brown eyes. She has very pale skin and tons of freckles all over. Her face still has a bit of the roundness of youth, but with a square, stubborn chin and a nose that's slightly too big for her face. Her expression often tends to look a little pouty and grumpy, but that's just the way her mouth rests. She's slim and quite flexible, and she's got a scar on her left arm from when she took a tumble down one of the island's rocky slopes to the sea.

Mental Description: Kenna is extremely curious and inquisitive. She often gets into trouble because she goes off exploring someplace new, or nosing into people's business where she shouldn't. She loves reading, especially books about magical plants and animals. She loves animals of all kinds, but especially the magical ones. Kenna is fairly easy-going and has a good sense of humor (well, one has to, as much as she's gotten into trouble in her life!) Two of the few things that will truly upset her are cruelty to animals, and bullying. She's not afraid to stand up to those types of people, though in general she's not particularly confrontational, preferring to shrug off little things and go find something more interesting to do.

Biography: The magical branch of the MacNeil clan has lived on Barra for almost 600 years. No one knows quite how a wizarding line entered the clan, but mentions of "those weirdos that we don't really talk to" have been scattered throughout MacNeil history. When the rest of the MacNeils were uprooted from Barra during the famine, the magical branch just carried on as they were, protected from notice of the Muggles clearing out the island and perfectly able to feed themselves without potatoes.

Of course, Barra is a small island and not exactly crawling with wizards, so the family did marry with Muggles a few times over the course of history. Kenna's parents are both magical, though her mother was Muggle-born, only discovering after she received her Hogwarts letter that her mysterious cousins were also wizards. Her mother is now a Healer at St. Mungo's, and her father is a magical historian specializing in the history of Scottish witches and wizards.

Kenna is an only child. Since her family are viewed as strange outcasts by the other residents of the island, she never socialized much with other children. Hence, she sought the company of animals and plants. She did attend the local primary school, though she always knew she'd go to Hogwarts after that. So she wasn't much bothered by the ostracism of the other kids, though she did tend to bite back when they started calling her names or throwing things at her. However, they soon discovered that strange things tended to happen when they physically bullied Kenna, so they quickly reverted to name-calling from long distances.

Kenna is excited to get to Hogwarts for several reasons. First, of course, she can't wait to finally be able to do magic. Second, she has heard that Hogwarts houses many types of magical animals and can't wait to meet them. And finally, she hopes at Hogwarts she'll finally be somewhere that she isn't an outcast, somewhere she can finally make human friends. She's a bit nervous about this, however, because she's never really had a human friend before and she doesn't know if she'll be any good at it.

First Instance of Magic: Kenna doesn't remember her first display of magic, though her parents have told her about it. When she was a toddler she had been walking along the beach with her mother and had suddenly seen an otter sunbathing on a rock in the bay. With a gleeful squeal, she had run toward the otter before her mother could catch her, straight into the sea. The strong current quickly swept her off her feet, but instead of being pulled under she had bobbed along the surface like a duck. Her mother swore she had walked on water. Unfortunately, the sight had so terrified the otter that it fled and Kenna never got to snuggle it.
