All things considered, Elodie Natalia Deering has led a very charmed life.

Born a month premature to Phillip and Marilyn Deering, Elodie was positively doted on from the moment she came into the world. With brunette hair she inherited from them both and her father's hazel eyes, Marilyn and Phillip considered her to be nothing short of a little princess, and they treated her as such. There was little Elodie wanted that wasn't immediately handed to her by her adoring parents, who couldn't bear to tell her no, and if it weren't for the more strict presence of her Uncle Hal, she likely would have turned out very spoiled indeed. That being said, she can still be a little entitled at times, but fortunately, Hal was able to curb the majority of such behavior.

Admittedly, things took a bit of a downturn when Elodie was nine years old, at which point Phillip was diagnosed with leukemia. Although he's been treating it regularly and appears to be on the track to remission, the past two years have been very rough on him. He's been sickly and weak, and with so much of their funds going towards medical expenses, the Deerings have definitely lowered a few rungs on the economic ladder. However, Hal has stepped in to help rear Elodie, and they've found a way to make things work. Phillip may not be able to spend hours playing with Elodie the way he used to, but he's still just as present in her life as Marilyn is, and their relationship hasn't suffered because of his sickness. In fact, one of the few things that can make Elodie legitimately furious is somebody badmouthing her father (or any of her relatives, for that matter--she's very proud of and loyal to her family).

In spite of her father's illness, Elodie has still led an overall happy home life, and a happy home life cultivates a happy child. Elodie grew up to be a very outgoing and bubbly girl, if a bit filter-less and sometimes a little oblivious. She loves building friendships and making people laugh, and is used to having a relatively large ring of friends, possessing the innate ability to blend into a variety of different social circles almost seamlessly. While she can be a bit vain at times and often lacks patience, Elodie is generally a very friendly and good-humored girl, with an optimistic outlook and an intense desire to make her parents proud. Her only real insecurity comes from her academic performance, which she worries will prevent her from doing right by her parents. Though she has a strong mind and works hard, Elodie struggles to focus on her school work and, due to her tendency to view things from an emotional standpoint rather than a logical one, has trouble working on problems involving rationale. Secretly, she's been hoping that the the subjects at this new magic school will come to her much easier than the ones at her old school did.
