Era Vivian Ryder has the usual body of an eleven year old girl, but a much more mature mind. Calm, collected, orderly and much rather in the presence of books than people, Era and her older twin sister are quite unlike one another. She is a bit shorter than usual, with auburn hair complementing her pale hazel eyes in a bob cut, and the fair skin her family shares.
Growing up under her parents, Anne and Patrick Ryder, ever since November 18th 2008, she has barely spent a day not seeing the magic of the wizard couple in action, and trying - and, on her own, failing - to study and understand it. Yet she is very eager to gather knowledge of the magic world, and specifically the arcane arts.
Her own ability to do magic manifested where one would not expect it, unless they were talking about Era: In the library of her small hometown, Haxey. Usually an oasis of quiet, such a place should not generate the heated emotions needed for young wizards to start showing their budding talents. Yet two very unfortunate bullies decided to poke fun at the young Era for constantly burying her nose in all manner of books, until the wizards fury boiled over - and both girls found out that their victim's favourite companions, tomes, really hurt when hitting them square in the face. Luckily no one was there to witness it, and her assaulters' views were obstructed, so only Era knew that she didn't actually throw the books. They got flung through the air by magic. And in an instant both her bullies and her fury disappeared, making way for the immense satisfaction that got confirmed on her 11th birthday - She was going to live her childhood dream, and study magic at the renowned Scottish School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogwarts.
