Eldrin Everspell, despite his magical sounding surname, was born into a muggle family to a normal muggle mother and a normal muggle father, at least as normal as you could get with a politician for a mother and a performance magician for a father. Eldrin has never really taken much interest in his mother’s work, but the work his father did, the magic and illusions he created, had always intrigued him. One of Eldrin’s earliest memories is of his father performing magic tricks for him, making things disappear right before his eyes, and it had always bewildered him as to how his father was doing these seemingly wondrous feats of impossibility.

At the age of seven, Eldrin discovered the truth behind his father’s magic tricks, that they were just that: tricks. It was devastating, for a day or two, finding out that magic wasn’t real and that his father had been tricking him all his life. By the third day, however, Eldrin has changed his mind and wanted to know everything his father was willing to teach him. As a political figure, Eldrin’s mother was largely absent, and he spent the majority of his time with his father, which was just as well as far as he was concerned.

Eldrin is a generally happy looking boy, sporting a healthy mane of thick, curly brown hair, which he generally keeps long. He hates getting haircuts, and doesn’t mind having a mop like mess of curls to deal with. He is rarely seen without a smile, and tries not to show people when he isn’t happy, something both of his parents taught him at an early age. The way people see you, they always said, is the way people will describe you when they talk about you to others. And if you are doing it right, they will be talking about you. As a politician and a performer, both of his parents needed to maintain a positive public image, their livelihoods depended upon it, and they taught the skill to their son as early on as possible.

As important as image is to his parents, Eldrin holds a high standard toward his appearance, always wanting to make good impressions upon those that he meets. Though for him, he does it less for his public image and more for his self confidence. He likes to look good, because it makes him feel good, not for the sake of vanity. Though image and appearance is important to him, Eldrin finds it much more critical to remain honest to the image he upholds. It isn’t all about looking good, it’s about doing good. He is kind to those he meets, and is hard to offend, taking things in stride where others might anger.

Since he found out his father’s secret, that he was simply a performer doing tricks and making illusions, Eldrin has immersed himself in learning. He first wanted to learn all about the art of being a magician, which has always been one of his primary interests, but through his studies of the arts of illusion, sleight of hand, hypnotism, escape artistry, showmanship, and other things relating to the profession, Eldrin discovered a thirst for knowledge about anything and everything he could learn. At eleven years old, Eldrin has read more books than many adults. This has left him, in a way, awkward around other people. Spending more time in books and with your father can tend to have that effect on a child.

The first time Eldrin put his newfound knowledge and practice to the test, he had coaxed his mother, father, and the family dogs Rue and Riley, into the living room of the flat in which they were residing in downtown London for a makeshift magic performance. He was 8, and eager to show his family what he had been working on.

Through the course of his little living room show, he did a card trick that, with more practice, would have revealed the card that had been drawn after several shuffles if the deck. This, though he didn’t know it, had failed. He followed this by making the water in a bottle of water disappear, using a trick bottle and a mirror, followed by a disappearing deck of cards (which was a hollowed out trick deck), and pulling a puppy out of his hat (with the help of Rue, the tiny Chiweenie that had barked and jumped off his head, ruining that particular trick), and lots of waving of a plastic black wand with plastic white tips on either side a flourishing of his black suede cape. The final trick, which Eldrin had deliberately saved as his grand finale, involved the 8 year old hiding Riley, who was a 3 year old Great Dane that was nearly taller than Eldrin while sitting down, under a large red blanket while the giant dog sat haphazardly on a barstool with a cardboard box “hidden” behind a red curtain. After bellowing the magic words and brandishing the giant curtain, the young magician had pulled the blanket away to reveal an empty stool.

Eldrin’s parents were quite impressed by this, considering how poorly the previous tricks had gone despite their enthusiastic applauses after each of them. The Great Dane was, after all, nearly twice the child’s size and they watched it disappear righ in front of their eyes. To their amazement, shock, and confusion, however, Riley was not there. In the seconds following the reveal, even Eldrin was confused when he heard his dog barking from outside the flat in the corridor outside, whining, and scratching at the door. The three never talked about that again, and chalked it up to a trick of some sort, saying to themselves that Eldrin must have somehow used some of his father’s tools and tricks to pull it off, though they couldn’t explain what or how. Little did they know, Eldrin was destined to become a real wizard and be invited to attend Hogwarts to learn to use his magic and become a member of the Wizarding World.
