Brief story & Background informations:
Albert never lacked for anything, except company and human affection.

The Beverley family is part of the upper English aristocracy and does not hesitate to show off its privileged status. It's Gringotts safe has been well stocked for many generations. The foundations of the family fortune were already laid in the 17th century, with the opening of a Firewhisky distillery in the very north of Scotland, nearby the coast. Remained in the shadow of its competitors from the Highlands Blishen's and Ogden's Old Firewhisky, it nevertheless remains very popular for many wizards abroad, mainly in Germany and the Scandinavian countries. Today, the family business is run by Albert's grandparents.

Sometimes Bertie is sent to them in the north of Scotland. If the very strict atmosphere in the house does not change, he nevertheless appreciates the form of freedom that it encounters. Far from the city he usually lives in, he can taste the flavor of nature. Smell the sea breeze, listen to the howling of the wind and the roar of the waves before they crash against the rocks. He can see the long grass moving with shimmering waves, the endless expanses of green and sometimes - oh joy - a deer.

But Bertie spends most of his time in the Beverley family's spacious villa, north of Birmingham. What to muggles looks like an old disused ruin made up of piles of grey stones overgrown with weeds, is in fact an elegant baroque building surrounded by a small but well-maintained French garden. A big house, a sweet garden, a lot of money and everything he wants... and despite all that, it's something terribly precious that Albert misses. Bertie never lacked anything, except company and human affection. His parents are both very busy wizards working at the Ministry of Magic and spend very little time with their son.

So Bertie grew up under the tutelage of a family house elf, Daisy, who became his only company. Albert learned to keep busy on his own. He read many different books, enjoying immersing himself in wonderful and fantastic universes to follow the stories of his heroes. One of its favorites remains the Fantastic Beasts and where to find them. All those creatures really fascinate him, even he has never seen any of them. Instead, Albert owns a cactus. It even has a name: Buddy. Carrying for this plant make him feel like he had a mission: this cactus only lives because he waters it regularly!

Bertie secretly collected everything related to broomstick flying and Quidditch: Comet 260 advertising flyer, old Quidditch World Cup poster, Montrose Magpies sticker and much more. All those goodies were presents from Daisy and carefully hidden in an old leather suitcase stored under his bed. Because his parents would never have allowed him to own all of this. Quidditch was too brutal a sport and the broom was not elegant enough for a good family like the Beverley do. But above all, Bertie loved to play the piano. He could spend hours sitting alone in front of the grand piano, letting his fingers hover over the keys as his mind soared with the melodies, carried away, far away to the sound of notes...
These hobbies allowed him to escape from his solitude. Because he didn't know anything else, all of this was unconscious. However deep inside his whole being was screaming for a little affection and attention.

It happened one day when Albert was seven. Like every Sunday, the Beverley family had tea at five o'clock. As always at tea time, Father Charles scanned the Daily Prophet extensively, while Mother Harriet read a book. Silently as usual, Bertie sipped his Darjeeling, a sad gaze fixed on his parents. Neither father nor mother opened their mouths; each carefully preoccupied with his reading. Suddenly all the cups began to tremble and dance on the saucers. Tea splashed and small stains quickly covered the tablecloth, book, newspaper and mother's white blouse. Both parents look up; father, brow furrowed and mother a scandalized expression on her face. In less time than it would take to say "Quidditch" Bertie was sent to his room. Even for its first sign of magic, the young boy has not been really noticed. In fact, his parents rarely spoke, or else exchanged on "grown-ups' subjects" that the child did not understand as little as it interested him. When they spoke to him, it was mostly to make comments like, "Stand up straight” or “don't put your elbows on the table.” Sometimes: “Merlin’s Beard! My boy, your trousers are way too short! You’ve grown again, my boy!” This last remark was the only one that made Albert's eyes light up. Because when he said that, his father took him to London on the spot to get his son new clothes. And even if Charles always did this quickly and efficiently, these were Bertie’s only father-son experiences.

The letter to Hogwarts came as no surprise - Bertie grew up surrounded by magic. Nonetheless, he was going to dive into another universe. He was going to meet kids his age and be confronted with communication and life in society.
