Aziraphale Hemingway was born to a magical mother and a muggle father. When magical amnominallies began to happen as Aziraphale aged, a chasm grew between his parents revealing the truth behind his mother. Sneezes that caused flower buds to briefly bloom was enough to send Aziraphale's father far away from the magical son. Aziraphale's mother on the other hand had high aspirations that her son could be a budding herbologist. With the chasm between his parents, it was no surprise when one day his father left and never came back. A shift from being raised muggle turned magical as a newborn freedom came to his mother opening up a larger world for her to raise Aziraphale. Distancing herself from the muggle world and moving back into a primarily magical existence, Aziraphale quickly forgot what life was like in the muggle world as life grew more magical day by day. As a single mother, help was needed in raising a child on her own and Aziraphale frequently spent time with his grandparents.
Unfortunately life was not a continual accent of positivity for Aziraphale. At the age of six a great loss came upon Aziraphale as a Mermaid expedition of his mother went badly quickly. With the death of his mother, guardianship was given to his grandparents. It was hard at first, but adjustments were made and the rise to greatness was back on track. With a learning curve for both Aziraphale and his grandparents, there were bumps on the road for the development of both his academic and social life.
Circumstances of life threw another bludger into the life of the young Aziraphale at the age of nine as his grandfather grew ill. Due to age or unknown reasons, a misdiagnosis brought a very painful death to the household as now Aziraphale’s guardianship changed to just his grandmother. A reverse situation now thrusted into the lap of his grandmother, it was as if history repeated itself placing her in a similar situation her own daughter had been in but the solution for the problem was far different.
At a very trivial point in his developmental growth, Aziraphale was now facing the growing changes of life at an earlier age than he should. With another rod in the cog of life the arrival of a Hogwarts letter brought relief and stress to Aziraphale’s life. Between the grief of losing her soulmate, the growing hardship of keeping up with Aziraphale and now the knowledge he’d be shifted into Hogwarts, Aziraphale’s grandmother is looking to downsize in life and relocate to a smaller housing option. Hogwarts awaits, grandmother trying to move on, and the unknown future role his father in his life is bound to test and stretch the limits of Aziraphale.
Aziraphale is a young complicated soul who has been shaped by the world around him in ways that seemed deemed the best at the time by those who were older than him. A mix between natural reactions for a person of his age and reactions of those much older than himself, there are times where Aziraphale’s reactions to situations might seem a bit erratic or abnormal to those who do not know him well. A mix of immature and overly mature for his age, his personality is in constant conflict with itself. Still trying to define himself as an individual and not a carbon copy of who he is expected to be, Aziraphale has outbursts of defiance which cause problems in the long run. May it be lack of proper male influence at a younger age or the influence of his grandfather and the unfiltered ways of the elderly, there are times when Aziraphale’s tongue gets him into a bit of trouble due to the shifting changes of social acceptance between generations.
Aziraphale’s past has a huge influence on how he handles situations and the fears that he has. Relationships are difficult for Aziraphale to accept, a deep scar of how his father left him at a young age and never contacted him afterwards has caused damage. Underlying fear that he could possibly be no different than his father, friendships and anything past a friendship seems very difficult for him to feel like he could ever have. Between both the failed relationship between his parents and the sad end of his grandparent’s relationship, Aziraphale is conflicted with how he even feels about his own possible shortcomings and the possibility that he could have a long successful relationship. Unfortunately the abandonment of his father isn’t the only negative life event that shaped Aziraphale. The death of his mother cultivated an unnecessary fear of water. The hyperactive imagination of a child convinced himself at a young age that a mermaid could live in any body of water and bring him to the same fate of his mother. Having a fear of water has limited social events in the summer involving pools and the headache of his grandparents on the matter.
A conundrum and enigma to himself, Aziraphale is aware of his irrational fears and attempts to overcome them but has not yet reached the point of maturity where he is able to do that. An oxymoron to the ‘t’, even the way that Aziraphale displays himself seems to conflict itself frequently. At times he has very male tendencies but at other times how he reacts can seem a bit more feminine. His fluidity has the potential to send mixed signals to others and create problems that he is unaware of. Naive at the moment, Aziraphale frequently makes mistakes and not always owns up to the fact that he has made errors.
Confident yet vulnerable, Aziraphale is frequently caught between two sides and relies on following his heart when the tough decisions come along. Raised to think rationally, Aziraphale constantly clashes with that as irrational ways seem to take over frequently. Much like magic itself, Aziraphale’s personality is trying to get out and is looking for ways to do that. Attending Hogwarts this year will not only help Aziraphale to control the magic within but to also give him the atmosphere needed to find who he is as a person of his age and not that of someone much older than himself.
Aziraphale has short dark hair with brown eyes. His smile is bright and his personality can be rather contagious. Aziraphale's physical build is of an active eleven year old.
