Georgianna Spencer resides in Wiltshire, England, in a charming village called Castle Combe. She has grown up with her mother, Margaret, and her beloved Border Collie, Cassie. Georgianna is 11 years old, small for her age, and has curly red hair and dark green eyes. As an only child, Georgianna gets plenty of love and affection from her mother, but her father remains a mystery to her. Not only does Georgianna not know him, but her mother, who is usually so warm and open, refuses to talk about him at all. In fact, Margaret shies from discussing much of anything from her past. From the few bits Georgianna has been able to piece together, she knows her father is from an old wizarding family, that he attended Hogwarts at the same time as her mother, and that he left them just before Georgianna was born.

Aside from her mother, Georgianna’s favorite person in the world is her Grandmother, Anne. Being shy in school has meant that Georgianna has few friends and is often overlooked, but Grandma Anne always makes her feel special. Grandma Anne’s visits are few since she lives a great distance away, but they continue to be some of Georgianna’s happiest memories. It was following one such visit when Georgianna’s magical abilities first started to show themselves.
Grandma Anne had always loved to garden, but she insisted on growing things without magic (“If muggles can do it, why can’t we?”) and her plants therefore demanded much time and attention. During one visit, Grandma Anne planted a variety of flowers in their yard and had charged Georgianna with their care.

“My Darling G, give these flowers all your love and kindness, and they will bloom as beautifully as you.”

Georgianna felt so proud to be put in charge of the garden. Her grandma’s faith in her meant the world. But like any six-year-old, she was easily distracted. One day she went into the yard to play with Cassie and found that her grandma’s flowers had begun to wilt. Georgianna was devastated. She was so disappointed in herself and felt so guilty for letting her grandmother’s beautiful blossoms die. Georgianna lay down in the garden and began to cry, clutching Cassie to her and sobbing until her mother called her to dinner.

To her shock and amazement, she sat up to find the flowers in full bloom. Not only that, but every plant in the garden stood taller, brighter, and more lovely than before. From that day forward, she and her mother kept their garden immaculate. Grandma Anne was overjoyed with the photographs they sent of their progress and often sent new packets of seeds for Georgianna to plant. Though it was hard work, Georgianna found it soothing, and the garden quickly became her favorite place in the world. She could see why Grandma Anne preferred to work without magic. She liked the feel of the earth in her hands, the breeze in her hair, and the sun on her face. Nothing compared to the sense of accomplishment she felt when a new flower took bloom.
