Born on March 16th in Trondheim, Norway, Silas Haakon Hexberg is the eldest child of Anders and Delilah Hexberg. Anders, a wizard from Trondheim, claims to be descended from Pureblood, Scandinavian lineage (though this should be taken with a grain of salt - he has quite the tendency to weave tall tales). Delilah, born and raised in Staithes, Yorkshire, is a Muggleborn and Hogwarts graduate.

By the time Silas was two, the family had another child (a daughter named Malena) and relocated to Upper Flagley, England; known for its quiet and well-established wizarding populace, and being close to Delilah's hometown, it was the perfect place to settle. This also ensured that any magical children the couple would bear would attend Hogwarts (a fact Anders somewhat lamented, having graduated from Durmstrang). His childhood was as mundane as it could be in the wizarding community; Silas spent many days devouring books about potions and magical creatures, playing on the ocean shores, worrying about his sister whenever she played on her toy broom (though he rarely, if ever, hopped on his own), and obtaining the equivalent of a primary school education from his mother's teachings.

Silas looks young for his age, with wide dark eyes and a messy mop of blondish-red hair. The best adjective to describe him would be 'anxious'. He is constantly worrying - about accidentally revealing his magic to the Muggles of Upper Flagley (a result of his mother's constant reminders about the Statute of Secrecy) and about whether Hogwarts is the right school for him (a result of his father's constant complaints that Durmstrang would be a better fit). He's quite reserved, and would rather follow than lead; when playing with other children, his sister usually begins conversations with them (and will speak for him more often than not). He's also honest to a fault; even if his life depended on it, Silas absolutely cannot tell a lie. But when he's in the company of people he likes, and he isn't focused on his worries, he's a smart lad; by the time he was nine, he had read most of his mother's books concerning Potions and magical creatures, and could recite even the most obscure facts concerning potions ingredients and obscure creatures. He's also very creative and enjoys writing fictional stories.

His magic manifested early on; the first bit of accidental magic the Hexbergs can recall occurred when he was about three or four. During one of Silas's tantrums, Anders had put his favorite toy - a teddy bear - up and out of reach, intending to give it back later after his son calmed down. Almost immediately, however, he watched as the bear began to levitate and gently float back to Silas - a gesture that made him stop crying as he hugged it with all the ferocity a toddler could muster. Various other spots of accidental magic occurred throughout his childhood, the most frequent being objects floating to him, such as books and other toys.

Turning eleven is a major source of both excitement and anxiety for Silas. While he's eager to begin learning, he's extremely nervous to see if he's magically talented. Having grown up constantly hearing stories from his father about the great things Hexbergs have done in the past - publishing books concerning magical theory and starting up various businesses throughout magical Scandinavia - has made Silas concerned that he won't wind up doing anything of importance. Despite all his reservations concerning himself and his school, though, Silas is hopeful that Hogwarts will wind up being the right school for him - and that he'll be good at magic, even if he doesn't do anything that changes the wizarding world (which his mother tells him time and time again isn't a necessary component of being a great wizard).
