Elliot Hemming has red hair, brown eyes, and often a smile on his face. He is above average in height and below average in weight, and at muggle school he excelled in tests and floundered in sports. Perhaps his most noticeable quality, however, is his unwavering optimism. This is not to be confused with delusion, though often the two mix against his will. Show Elliot a half-filled glass and he would say there’s still hope to fill the rest. And often, he would fill it himself.
Elliot’s early displays of magic bent the world to his optimism. Despite his lackluster skill in football, he quickly became second or third pick after other children noticed that the team opposing Elliot’s would often trip on nothing and miss the goal spectacularly from five feet away when Elliot cheered his mates on. His academic advice was often useless motivational platitude, but classmates found their scores somehow improving after listening.
Perhaps one area where optimism could not help Elliot was with his father. Since before he knew what hope meant, he hoped he could meet his father, who his mother assured would one day come back. And Elliot would hug him and tell him about school and do all the things he saw children on TV do with their fathers. That day is yet to come, though Elliot does not doubt it will.
Just recently, Elliot learned that he had been accepted to Hogwarts, a school for young witches and wizards. He is beyond excited, and knows that nothing but great things can come of this.
