Born during the cold rains of January to Garrett & Lodema Hile(Jane), Abijah was the youngest of two sons. The Hile house was a modest home located in rural northern Ireland outside Belfast.

Garrett Hile is an honest, intelligent, and loving muggle father who is the sole provider for the household. An electrician by trade, he is also an avid outdoorsman and inventor. Lodema chose to be at home raising the two boys, a devotion she takes to heart. She maintains the family's small farm and is often found tending their impressive garden. Muggle-born, her parents always attributed her talents with plants as being born with a green thumb. Abijah's older brother Christopher was born six years ahead of him, and Abijah has always wished they were closer. Christopher is witty and very academic. Like his father, he lacks any magical ability. Unlike the rest of the family, he is a practicing Catholic.

Abijah is typically shy around new people, but he practices pretending to be confident. This is usually a feat he can only maintain for a short time, and he soon retreats into the countryside or a book. As an introvert, he only has one close friend. His parents assumed Abijah would be non-magical like his older brother, but knew otherwise after watching yarrow sprout and become full grown while weeding the herb garden.
