Helvetica Ivy Agnes Adams was born to Thomas and Charlotte Adams, two young Muggles who had never really planned to have children. Between running their comic book shop and paying the mortgage on their little home in Catterhole, Aberdeen, it had never been given much thought.

A name such as Helvetica could be considered gift or curse, but Charlotte Adams thought it pretty, and so it stuck. It wasn't so pretty in the eyes of Muggle children, who found any which way to use it against her. Her classmates at primary school were all called "Grace" or "Amelia". Helvetica often wished she could be an Amelia, to blend into the background.

It wasn't just her name that ensured the other children thought her weird. Wonky teeth, a smattering of freckles, and unkempt clothing helped, as did the little conversation she held with other children. It was easier for young Helvetica to keep her head in her comic books than to engage with her bullies.

There were few other children whose presence Helvetica enjoyed, and sometimes endured. Her best friend, a mousy little Muggle girl named Holly, was one of those few. They had been playing in the garden of Holly's quite lavish (in Adams standards) home one crisp Saturday morning, when Helvetica seemingly stopped a falling tree branch from falling onto her companion.

That couldn't be right, could it?

Other instances of the same confusing nature occurred over the next few years, and eventually, the Adams family were visited by a Ministry official, who advised them that their daughter was, in fact, a Witch. Helvetica now looks forward to burying her nose in books other than comics at Hogwarts School of witchcraft and Wizardry.
