Being a Pureblood witch, young Cecelia Ebonheart was exposed to magic right from her birth in St Mungo’s up to the day she left London on the Hogwarts Express. Cecelia’s mother, Adrianna, was an exceptionally posh woman who, back when she herself was at Hogwarts, was sorted into Slytherin because of her ambitious nature. In fact, the entire family on both sides of the tree had been Slytherins, so they would likely have been mortified if Cecelia was a Hufflepuff, for example. Her father, Marcus, worked in a high ranking position in the Ministry of Magic, having received promotion after promotion in the years of his service, though he never saw any interest in becoming head of one of the departments.

Cecelia’s parents had both been exceptionally gifted when it came to magic, however, their daughter seemed to be slightly the opposite. The first time they ever saw her do magic was when she was seven and a half, as opposed to just seven, so for six months, they thought she was a squib. And even then, the only magic she performed was making a chocolate cake float three inches in the air for a second or two.

Having no siblings, Cecelia was the heir to both the Ebonheart name and their vast wealth, both of which would come into her possession in the event of her father passing away. She did have some distant cousins who could perhaps claim it, but other than that, there was a lot of pressure on Cecelia to eventually find the right man and have children to continue the legacy. Otherwise, she would be the last in a line of extremely influential purebloods leading all the way back to the fourteenth century at least.

When the acceptance letter from Hogwarts arrived, Adrianna and Marcus were both secretly relieved that their daughter was magic at all. Cecelia, on the other hand, was worried. The Ebonhearts were somewhat well-known throughout the Wizarding World for their... Malfoy-ish nature, so there was a lot of pressure on her back that she didn’t necessarily want. What if she failed everything and her parents got mad? What if she was so squib-like that the Sorting Hat refused to place her in any of the four houses? Maybe the rumours were right.

Or perhaps not.
