Jade is 5 foot, 3 inches tall with long chestnut brown hair extending to the middle of her back. She typically wears it wavy, which is how it is naturally, though sometimes she will straighten it or put it up. She has medium-dark green eyes and full plump lips that make it appear as if she's almost always pouting. She has a slim to average build and has always enjoyed playing sports, though never has on an actual team.

Jade can either be quiet and reserved or outgoing and carefree, depending on the situation and surrounding company. When she's around strangers or those she's not comfortable with, she tends to keep to herself a bit more, which leads some people to believe she is cold, uncaring or simply not interested in making conversation. Of course, this is often not the case, but Jade tries to understand others true intentions before opening up to them in order to avoid having her weaknesses used against her. For those she is close with, Jade is outgoing and bubbly, but also tends to be a bit more stubborn.

She has a sharp tongue and sarcastic sense of humor that often makes her friends laugh and her enemies realize she won't back down. She prefers to remain calm with an analytical approach to things in most situations, but does sometimes act impulsively especially if convinced to do something by someone she trusts. Typically Jade is not easily annoyed or offended, choosing instead to either ignore it or make a sarcastic remark and move on, but if pushed too far or is truly hurt by someone or something, she may act impulsively or irrationally.

Jade is fiercely loyal to her family and close friends, defending them no matter what and at all costs. On the contrary, if someone does ever betray her trust or tries to hurt her or someone she cares about, she has no problem with revenge or in her mind, getting even. She is very hardworking, determined, creative and competitive and will continue at a task she knows she's capable of even after many others would have given up. When she has her mind set on something, she will stop at nothing to get it and sometimes this can cause conflict with those around her. She can be manipulative, though Jade would much rather make friends than enemies.

Jade, along with her identical twin sister, Ruby, were born on May 22 to James and Natalie Emerson, a young Muggle couple living in the coastal town of Brighton, England. The pair previously had a 3 year old son named Shane, who wasn't quite thrilled with having two new baby sisters. In his mind, a new baby meant that he'd no longer be the center of attention having two new babies meant that he would receive even less time with them.

Within the first week after Jade and Ruby were born, Shane started acting out in order to get attention from his mother and father, who now seemed too busy for him. He would constantly throw tantrums whenever they went out, often pulled the pacifiers out of his sisters' mouths or took toys away from them at home and would put up even more of a fight when it came time for bedtime. Seeing how their son had started behaving, James and Natalie didn't think anything of it when they woke up over the next several months to continuously find their daughters nursery door was left open or the lights had been turned on. Of course, this was the one thing that Shane swore up and down he had nothing to do with.

By Jade and Ruby's first birthday, no one in the Emerson household thought it was strange when toys went missing or were switched from Ruby's crib into Jade's. They didn't think it was strange when jars of baby food ended up broken on the floor (ironically, only the ones that Jade didn't like) or that their two cats seemed to curl up on either side of Jade's crib in a protective (though almost creepy) manor. Some of these things were blamed on their now almost four year old son, but others had no logical explanation and were usually disregarded with a shrug of a shoulder.

Just after Jade and Ruby turned two, Natalie learned that she was once again pregnant and later gave birth to another girl, Kira Breanne Emerson. Shane was once again disappointed, hoping that he'd have a baby brother to share his time with rather than another sister, who would most likely prefer to play with dolls and makeup rather than firetrucks and superhero action figures. Natalie and James thought about having another baby to try for another boy, but with three children ages five and under, decided to hold off.

The Christmas after the twins turned three years old, no one could explain how Jade and Ruby, who originally had matching outfits from head to toe, now wore entirely different clothes and Natalie and James both accused the other of the change. By this point, Shane (who was now six) had gotten used to things like this happening and was eagerly sitting next to the Christmas tree watching his confused parents before interrupting to ask if he could finally open his presents.

On Jade and Ruby's sixth birthday, the family once again had a joint birthday party for the girls, though Jade had begged to have a separate party from her sister. While James and Natalie thought it was easier to have on birthday party for the two of them, they did decide to get a couple of gifts for each of the girls separately rather than just several gifts that the two could share. Of course, each girl was given special presents just because throughout the year and on Christmas, but Jade wanted to have her own presents for her birthday too. This year, she was given an art set than she had been asking for for the past few months, some new coloring books and a stand up painting easel. Ruby was much more into hair and makeup instead of art and received a dress up kit with fake makeup and several dresses.

Jade had absolutely no complaints about the gifts and immediately began exploring her creativity, breaking open a coloring book and her new crayons and setting to work. Meanwhile, Ruby had changed into one of her fancy new dresses complete with a plastic tiara atop her head and wanted someone to play dress up with her. While dancing around the living room hoping for a chance to meet with the prince, Ruby had accidentally stepped on Jade's coloring book and tore the page opposite the one that was being colored.

Furious, Jade screamed at her sister and while Ruby swore it was an accident, a loud rip was heard and her new dress had a large hole in it. While Ruby claimed that Jade had pulled it, she was obviously far enough away for that not to have been the case and their mother claimed that Ruby must have accidentally stepped on it herself. Several days later, Jade felt bad that her sister's dress had gotten ruined and asked her if she wanted to paint a picture together. Ruby eagerly agreed, but about half hour later when the sisters disagreed about what color to paint a flower (Jade had wanted purple, while Ruby wanted yellow), Ruby found herself covered in yellow paint. Jade had thought about dumping the bottle over her sister's head, but she hadn't actually done it. Once again, James and Natalie claimed that the bottle must have tipped while Ruby was holding it, still not realizing the series of events that had taken place over the years had all been related.

That fall, Jade and Ruby had started first grade and since they weren't always together every minute of the day, things seemed to be getting better for them. Even Shane, who had initially hated having two little sisters (and now, three), started to come around and he made sure that everyone knew that he was their big brother and to not start anything with them unless they wanted trouble. James and Natalie found it quite different only having their youngest daughter home during the daytime and that's when they started realizing that nothing unusual happened when Kira was by herself.

They also realized that their family didn't seem quite complete and decided to begin trying for what they decided would be their last child, this time hoping for a boy. Several months later, Natalie broke the news to James that she was pregnant. Unfortunately, she suffered a miscarriage at ten weeks and the pair were hurt and disappointed, deciding not to try again.

To celebrate Jade and Ruby's 10th birthday, the Emerson family decided to take a vacation out of the country to Disney World in Florida. They now had a 13 year old, two 10 year olds and an 8 year old which meant that each of their children could enjoy the trip and make many memories that would last a lifetime. They spent two weeks there, visiting Disney World several times, going to the beaches and enjoying the experience of being a tourist in a new place. None of them had wanted to return home, but Natalie and James promised that they'd be able to come back in a few years possibly to celebrate Shane graduating from high school. It seemed way too far away for Jade, but she didn't have a choice and tearfully returned back home with her family.

Unfortunately, two weeks before Jade and Ruby turned 11 years old, tragedy struck the Emerson family. After work, Natalie had picked up her four children and was heading home when their car was T-boned by a drunk driver who failed to stop at a red light. The Emerson's car spun around and ended up in the middle of the intersection with broken glass and metal covering the ground. Jade heard her mother's panic stricken voice asking if everyone was okay, but Jade couldn't seem to respond. Kira was sitting next to her, shaken up and crying and Ruby, on the other side of Kira, was barely conscious and bloody.

While Natalie tended to Shane, Jade rushed around to the other side of the car and opened the door to check on Ruby, not concerned about the excruciating pain her own body was feeling. Although Jade successfully managed to keep Ruby alert for a short period of time, she eventually succumbed to her injuries and died before medical aid arrived. The next thing Jade knew, she was waking up in the hospital with both of her parents and her little sister, Kira, in the room.

Jade immediately asked if Shane and Ruby were okay and her parents explained that Shane was recovering in another room, but Natalie broke down before she could say another word. James held her close, but Jade could see that he struggled to fight back tears as well. Even Kira, who was typically a bright, happy nine year old had a somber look on her face. Jade had thought that Ruby had only lost consciousness, but realized by the reactions of her family, that her twin hadn't survived.

The Emerson family struggled to cope with Ruby's death, Jade taking it the hardest. On her birthday, Jade didn't feel much like celebrating as she knew that for the first time, she'd be having her birthday without her twin sister by her side. The rest of the family wasn't exactly in the best place either, Natalie and James having just lost a daughter and Shane and Kira also having lost their sister. They quickly wished Jade a happy birthday, and the rest of the day went by as if it was just another day.

Well, almost as if it was just another day. In the late afternoon, a knock was heard on the Emerson's door and a strange looking man was on the other side. Upon answering, James and Natalie learned that this man was from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, claiming to be a wizard and having the ability to do magic. He also claimed that Jade shared that ability and that she had been accepted at Hogwarts for the upcoming term.

It was all too much for the Emersons to understand, but Jade had wanted to attend. She already had to start again learning to live life without her twin, so it was only fitting that she start learning to survive in a new world at a new school for people who also shared her abilities. James and Natalie were hesitant at first, but thought that the change of scenery might help her cope with what had happened as she would be putting her main focus on learning new skills and making friends.

While Jade struggled to adjust without Ruby by her side, she tried to focus on what lay ahead for her at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While she tried to remain optimistic about the experience, deep down she was scared of this entirely new world and afraid to feel even more alone without her remaining family by her side.
